If Rev 13 is to be taken Literally, that means that very few, if any Believers (Christians) will be around during this period. To paint a Picture, Revelation 13 takes places before the Battle at Armageddon.
Until recently, everyone thought that this was symbolic...until the development of the RFID (VeriChip/Xmark), RFID Powder (Hitachi) and Mondex (Mastercard)became known, as well as the Real ID Act signed into law in 2005. The key wording here in Rev 13:13-16 is that that no man will be able to buy or sell without this mark (see the Real ID Act) and those who will not take this mark, and renounce God, will be Beheaded. The Real ID Act, which goes into effect Jan 1, 2010, will prevent ANYONE without it to use any Government programs, open or even use any Bank Accounts,and even travel VIA Airplane or Train.
Now, I'm not saying that the Real ID is indeed the Mark, but the REAL ID act, the Verichip and the Mondex Smartcard all has the potential to usher in this Mark in the future.
1 last thing, a Jewel-Osco Supermarket in Chicago is test marketing a system where you pay with your fingerprint...no cash or credit cards. That is how far along we are with this "Smart" Technology. -

News.context What's new: The House of Representatives has approved an $82 billion military spending bill with an attachment that would mandate electronically readable ID cards for Americans. President Bush is expected to sign the bill. Bottom line: The Real ID Act would establish what amounts to a national identity card. State drivers' licenses and other such documents would have to meet federal ID standards established by the Department of Homeland Security.
