  Do we come here to "convince" ourselves?

  ok...so the other day my husband(he is still an active witness) starts questioning me about why i come to x-jw sites.. he said the reason people come to these types of sites,is to convince themselves that they made the right decision to leave the"truth".i told him i come here to get support from others who feel they were tricked into believing something that wasn't true.he knows i feel my life has been taken away from me because i wasted so many years following their doctrines.i told him it helps me to know i am not alone in my feelings.he is still convinced that people are afraid they are wrong,and just come here to keep finding reasons to stay away from the "truth".he doesn't understand that we know what the real truth is.. i was just curious what everyone else thought about this.do you feel we are "convincing" ourselves that we made the right decision to leave?

  Hi bittersweet,

  IMHO we come here for the same reason he goes to the KH... now ask him... why do you keep going to the KH for 5 meetings a week?... are you not convinced that it's the "truth" and you have to keep going over and over for reinforcement?

  Most of us come here at first because we've been SHUNNED from our "friends" and family... so we look for people that have gone thru similar experiences and can relate.. and with whom we can vent and talk about the cult that used to control our lives before. Birds of a feather fly together

  I'm new....

  hi, i'm a little bit nervous posting something in here.....this is the firts time.....i was just wondering what "good" or "bad" things you have to say about jw.

  i have been a jw all my life and my husband too.

  right now i'm in the process of getting out... or fading away....i'm not attending the meetings anymore.

  i've done a lot of lurking and have put in my two cents a few times on this board, but just realized i've never introduced myself here.. i'm one of five who was raised as jws.

  my mom began studying not too long after she married; dad was totally against it.

  coming from a divided household, we were treated as an nonentity in the congregation.

  A FORMAL Welcome... (even though you've been here a LONG time) I enjoyed your posting and can relate to some of your personal experiences. My father was NOT a JW while we were growing up but he never was oposed. Still, you get a different treatment than others your age would if your father wass an elder of the congregation.

  the feb. km has an article entitled: new arrangement for kingdom hall libraries.

  no longer will the library be called the theocratic ministry school library.

  now, it has been renamed the kingdom hall library.

  Paying for the Kingdom Hall

  in the late 80's, our hall was built and it cost about 150,000$ canadian.

  every month, we had to give a certain amount to pay for the hall.

  after 3 or 4 years, we still owed 135,000 for the hall.

  One thing that I don't get... and I've always had this question...

  When we collect donations while going door to door (if you ever dared to ask)... we usually used to tell people it was to further our work world wide... to publish more literature... to build more halls... etc... the question is... if the individual congregations are paying for the halls out of their own pocket... PLUS the WTBTS is making money out of the interest on those loans... are they deceiving people? the WTBTS is NOT paying for the halls...

  Did you used to tell that to people too?...

  Will my UN library card work there?

  LOL... good one...

  Isn't it odd that lately the WTBTS is changing names to EVERYTHING... and/or giving directions to the R&F to use certain terms instead of the way they used to go by or describe things differently?

  confused and disfellowshipped

  hello, ive been disfellowshipped for being with my boyfriend who is a witness also, i'm sad and dont know what to do now, so ive been looking around for answers, and found this site.

  i don't want to go back because the people i thought i loved, the fellow brothers and sisters , didnt seem to care when i was having problems, and i wondered where the "love" was in the organization.

  so there is my problem.

  Sadly this is typical and very common... and most of us here have experienced the SAME THING... even when we haven't been formally DFed or DA.

  So, feel free to share with us your experiences (like you have done today), research, read... it's all a process and it takes time because like you said that is ALL you know... but I promise we'll be here to help you and support you along the way.

  In many ways I can relate to your story... I also used to have doubts ever since I can remember... but always waited for "new light"... now, I will doubt absolutely ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that comes from the WTBTS... Plus, I have many doubts of my own.

  Like I always say... I rather not know everything but the things that I know to know them right rather than THINK I know everything or have the answer to everything and be WRONG.
