Define your spiritual side

although i don't go to meetings anymore, i'm inactive, never was disfellowshipped, i still have a "spiritual side to me", something that is deeply rooted in.

on one side, i see errors the watchtower makes, and on the other side i take what's good about them, and that's why i don't fit in with them.

i don't meet their standards, nor do they meet mine.

Hmmmm.................flippancy.......the most hopeless form of intellectual vice.

As I am sure you are aware, I meant purpose. I am interested in what you consider to be the purpose of your life; or for that matter any of us?

What do you consider life is all about?

Also why are you astonished at human behaviour, when you look at the cause for peoples behaviour why are you astonished?

And I am serious about these questions, I am interested in knowing what you would consider the answer to mankinds ailments, taking into account that not all are rational; and then some are rational, but are aware of a spiritual side to their nature. Why is that the case for some? Why do they feel the need to contemplate a spiritual side? What put that there in the first place? What reasoning is behind your dislike of spiritualness so much, leaving aside the JWs. And I am not talking about a person being a enthusiast of a religion but rather their connection to a greater being, a oneness of all.

I am interested to know Terry why you think you are here; why you exist and what you consider your relationship with the rest of mankind is?

And how do you define such an examination?

LOVE, ALTRUISM & EVOLUTION

i'm an evolutionist.

one cannot argue that evolution isn't a fact.

however, i'd be interested in the better informed amongst us here explaining in simple terms how the feeling of love evolved.

Dansk you asked for a simple explanation of how love evolved and IMHO it has happened something like this.

At birth we need to be cared for, fed, kept clean, warm. To continue surviving we are in immediate need of connection with another human being. Mothers produce chemiclas/hormones which naturally lend to caring for their offspring. In healthy parent/child relationships this bond promotes a feeling of safety and of being cared for or the label we give it of being loved. This need is there from the moment we enter the world.

Tetra explained well the premise of physical attraction and this guarantees the survival of the human race, and in fact all other creatures. At its origin, sex with another being creates life.

As we have developed/evolved as humans we have started to label the basic need we are born with. To be intimate with another being.

Often our life experience (and especially the formative years) mould the way in which we experience love. Hence a woman who has experienced a father beating her mother will often believe she loves a man who exhibits similar traits. If you are the offspring of parents who apparently loved each other, remained faithful and were 'loving' in their actions toward each other it is likely that you will seek the same. I understand the previous sentence is very general but it is meant only to illustrate.

In summary, we are born with a basic instinct and need for intimacy and connection with another creature. The diversity we find in the world results, in part from, the diversity of that basic instinctual need being met and the labels we then give to it as we mature.

first of all amanda was right, this isnt anything i can just walk away from, it is'nt something that i can just put behind me and move on.

this involves my sexuality and my childhood experience growing up in the jw cult.

Am I being persecuted by the WTS for my choice of beliefs? Is it criminal?

Courts do not get involved in church disciplinary matters. Its has previously been ruled 'Because the practice of shunning is a part of the faith of Jehovah's Witnesses, we find the 'free excercise' provision of the United States Constitution......precludes (a person) from prevailing. The defendants have a constitutionally protected privlege to engage in the practice of shunning.'

Whatever the reasons a JW agrees with the practice of shunning, be it fear or any other reason, they have the right to continue.

You never know it may be the 'wake up' call they need.

when you compare the way you feel now as members of this forum with how you felt on your early days here what sort of thoughts and feelings come up?

what was your journey here like?

for me i have gone a long way, when i came here i loathed typing long posts, and hardly knew how to go about forums i was basically a forum virgin.

I was probably a little nervous about posting at first.................that no longer applies.

I think the forum shows that we are still a mixed bag of people, all at different stages in our development and that sometimes it is necessary to examine ourselves and what motivates us individually.

It can be fun and sometimes it can be a little boring!!!!!

I think the forum shows that we are still a mixed bag of people, all at different stages in our development and that sometimes it is necessary to examine ourselves and what motivates us individually.

It can be fun and sometimes it can be a little boring!!!!!
