seeing as i have the wt in front of me today, i thought you'd enjoy the questions from readers from the february 15, 2007 article on the evils and pagan origins on toasting or clinking of glasses.
the article specifically mentions how not everything today that was of pagan origin is necessarily bad, and sites "wedding rings" as being of pagan origin, but it's not viewed like that now.
then, incredibly, they go on and say that while toasting might not be considered a religious practice today, there's "good reason" for christians to avoid it------without giving any valid reason why other than: do as we say:.
Again writing things that are not mentioned in the Bible, going above the things written. I don't know if toasting is wrong but being toasted is.

i was talking to my sis, and we came up with this!
if we will be living for hundreds or thousands of years in "paradise", no death, no sickness, no war, no pestilence, no hunger," the former things will have passed away" don't remember the chapter or verse in the nwt, and what about the "raised from the dead" won't the world become overpopulated, remembered talking to my mom about it when we were little and she said it would never happen?

Clam yes they teach that "some" will probably be used in the NO along with the faithful who died prior to Jesus including John the Baptist. I agree that it doesn't matter what is in store whether here or in heaven. I don't believe we can figure it out Roms 11:33,34. I don't agree with the org on anything like this as no one knows and the speculation is what the Bible has told us not to do.

from time to time the borg changes the baptismal questions...they're always asking for money so maybe when the candidates for baptism stand up the speaker should have them take out their wallets and purses, open them up and then repeat "help your self..." that way mother get's her hands in right from the get go.. anybody else think of better questions?

Tigerman- yes many of the ones listed are either written law in elders letters or implied in writing and as one stated it could be either elder or CO law in your area as some impose their views on others and because they are the ruling figures in the hall or circuit, it will be enforced. As far as Oral Sex, it is in their writings that it is fornication and you can be removed or even DF'd for making this a practice or if it becomes well known in the congr.

locally, there was an elder who was able to have affairs with three different women, including his wife for thirty years.
during that same time he had his hand in the contribution box to keep his business going.. we're talking thirty years here.. i agree with many posts here that the legal dept actually run the wtbts now and not the governing body.
It is not that it is impossible, remember in Jesus day, Judas was stealing from the contribution box but to amass wealth in this would be hard. Usually when it comes to the cont box, more then one person checks the other person who gathers the money until one person is trusted to do this job and they have a check and balance system in place. A person though could take small sums of money at a time but as the congr account starts to dip it would eventually be found out.
As far as the Society in NY, I remember the Mormons had 4 men who were higher ups walk with over 300 million several years back in the 80's it was the biggest religious money scandal to every hit a church. I guess anything is possible but some are more probable. It would and wouldn't surprise me.

i just wanted to update those of you who helped me with my children's visit.. my kids came out to visit me from wisconsin to washington for the first time since the divorce.
i was very nervous.
we basically had a great time.
I am glad that your visit went well, it is sad that you had to feel nervous abuot being around flesh and blood and your children yet. If anything perhaps this set the stage for the next visit. It is a sinch by the inch but hard by the yard. One step at a time.

i can not fathom how much i heard this, and it always puzzled me the world near.
you see, when i use the word near, i say things like "i live near california" and i live about thirty miles from california.
i say my in-laws live near me, and they live about ten minutes away.
And yet one day "near" will be "here", as you travel to either time or a destination, you will inevitably get to the point that you are traveling to, I for one think that we are nearer than we think. I can't believe that I have been out of school for 27 1/2 years already.
