I lived with a man with bipolar disorder, lived with him for seven years. Lithium kept him very balanced, but he would always get to a point where he felt he didn't need it any more, I think he got bored being on an even keel all the time. Then he would quit taking it and go back to the emotional ups and downs, until it was so difficult that he would go back on the lithium. I was interested that when he was really out of control he would go buy a few cigars and smoke them and feel better. Later on I read in a government report on nutrients that tobacco is a good source of lithium. Self-medicating, I guess. Would have been better if he just stayed on the med, but he just couldn't believe he had to take it all the time.

Here's a classic.....
by Stealth453 inmy kid-brother, da'd for 6 years, came here to the philippines to marry the love of his life.
we invited our parents, both hard-core, active, fire and brimstone, book selling, family hating, rubba-flubs, and they came up with some cock-and-bull ($hit) story about how poor they were (gave it all to the watchliars, 1 million $+), and "would love to attend but couldn't afford it", and then announced that they were going to florida for a 3 week vacation.
useless freaking religious crackpots.. thanks for listening to me rant.

it IS classic! They gave all their money to the WTBTS, they can't afford to go to their own son's wedding, but they can take a three week vacation in Florida. How stupid do they think you are?

Happy are those who are shunned!
by Gill inhappy are the shunned, since they will have peace and quiet!!!
truer words were never spoken.. for all of you who understandably miss your family, just think of the troubles those of us have to endure when some of our jw family refuse to shun us and make it their lifes work to 'encourage' your return to the cult with threats of imminent death by their ever loving god!.
my mother!

The art of shunning your disfellowshiped family. What does it require?
by jambon1 into most of us here, the practise of shunning a relative who disagrees with the religion, or who chooses a different path, is utterly evil, repulsive and inhumane.. i will never forget the real life stories i have heard relating to the heartbreak and misery that this 'doctrine' brings to families all over the world.
but, what does it take to see through the councel to shun your own children, mother or father?
in my opinion, a person who shuns their offspring or other family, is void of any natural love or affection.

I think they do it because they belong to an organization that teaches it is OK not to love. More important to follow the governing body than to follow your natural feelings of love for family and friends. JWs talk about love a lot, but in practice they are pretty unloving. How do I know? 30 years in the org., third generation JW.

Matt. 10:34-42 Proves the JWs Are the True Religion
by Undecided inchrist came with a sword to break up families if they don't follow the line.
he is all that matters.
you have to reject your families if they don't follow jesus(jehovah according to jws) so this proves they are right.

evidently the subject isn't funny to many of us. It seems to me from reading the JWD posts that shunning is one of the most hurtful and damaging policies of JWs. Someone mentioned that no one posting on this thread thinks that JWs are the true religion. Something else to think about is that Jesus was just a man. The sermon on the mount is wonderful teaching, but there have been other wonderful teachers throughout history. The thing is we can't become slaves to an organization, even if the organization claims to base its teachings on the word of Jesus, because Jesus and similar teachers were human and therefore prone to error.

What Subject Did You HATE Hearing About At The Meetings?

hated stuff about families as it didn't apply to me - single people don't exist in the WTBTS except as tools to be used. Mostly though was bored out of my mind - soooooo bored. Can't even go to school now for fear of being trapped in a room having to listen to BS for an hour.

Something at school today.
by ColdRedRain intoday at school, i was drunk and there was this woman that went to my mom's kingdom hall.
she got pissed that i referred to her religion as a "church'.
she then tried telling me that i should be at the kingdom hall so i can get "better".

so getting drunk and going to school drunk is going to prove what? that JWs are right - when you leave the org. you go downhill into a life of squalor and vice? It's self-deceit to blame your getting drunk on the JWs.

"The Streets Is Hard, they don't understand that innit"
by needproof inso i was (attempting) to work on my car the other day when a few 17,18 or 19 year old white kids walked past.
now we have come to call this group of kids 'the gangster boys', 'street rats' and of course, 'chav brigade'.
i don't know what it is like in other places in the world, but here in the uk, gangster boys are breeding at alarming rates.

well, when they start committing crimes just for the hell of it, they will eventually find out what life is like with real hard cases in jail. It's too bad that their following sheer commercialism will lead them to make choices that will ruin their lives. Interesting too that they see themselves as being independent, when actually they are attempting to be clones of their favorite gangster stars. They dress exactly the same, talk exactly the same, walk the same and so on...clones...sheep.

once I quit going to the KH, I visited other churches, even went to a Buddhist ceremony, decided religion is not for me. I don't believe any of it, mostly have been a lot happier since leaving the WTBTS, feel lighter and more free, have learned how to be an independent thinker, oh I guess I changed in lots of ways. right now going through a little hell, but it is only temporary. I don't like religion, but I like to read the Dalai Lama's writing now and then, I like what he says.

the cat is beautiful! Raccoons are cute but real pests too. Used to have them and oppossums raiding the trash in San Diego.
