I felt sorry for my mother when she died, but not especially sad. Because of our upbringing I felt detached from my family. I have stronger bonds with my sisters than I had with my mother -- the fault of the wtbts among other things.

Any advice?
by InChristAlone ini was told a very heartbreaking story last night.
one of my childhood friends adopted two kids from africa several years ago.
these kids have had very severe anger management issues and have been in regular therapy.

Yeah, empathy, poor things. I'm glad they were able to talk with their real parents. Sad situation -- I wonder how much scamming goes on in international adoptions?

Heinlein had great plot ideas, too, and adventurous stories, but he wasn't the best writer, either. However, I can still read his books and enjoy them.

Heinlein -- I remember discovering his books in the library as a teenager in junior high school. I read them all -- and I reread them every few years. Stranger in a Strange Land isn't my favorite, I think I like The Moon is a Harsh Mistress the best.
I recently reread all the Foundation books (Asimov) and was surprised to think they aren't really that good. Asimov had great plot ideas but was a pedestrian writer.

Today I Da'd -Twenty-five years ago. Regrets -some.
by Xanthippe inyes twenty-five years ago today we sent in our da letter.
some regrets, not about leaving the cult obviously, but sometimes when i read about people slowly fading and keeping in touch with family and friends i wonder if we should have done that.
of course it was before the internet in 1989 so we didn't know about people fading.. one day we were driving along and we had been talking about moving congregations because we knew something was wrong but of course we thought it was local.

My only regret is that I didn't wake up earlier. I love reading the stories here of young people who are still teens and making plans to escape the wtbts. I wish I had done that.
I'm sorry you lost your husband. You must miss him. How nice that you had a good marriage and some happy times together.

WAIT ONE MORE QUESION WHAT HAPPENS IF I CANCEL THE DAY OF? OMG~! WILL I GET IN TROUBLE? I CANT DEAL
What's the worst they can do? Lecture you, pressure you, apply guilt? I'll tell you a secret from my teen years -- I've never admitted to it before. When I was getting yelled at, given guilt and grief, I stared at the other person's nose and thought about how ugly they look when they are lecturing, and said things to myself like, "lecture all you want, you can't really tell what I'm thinking, you stupid jerk." I couldn't be overtly rebellious at the time, but I could think my own thoughts. Eventually they give up yelling and go do something else, especially if you just keep staring and don't answer.
I'm more concerned about your suicide thoughts and feeling like an alien. Please consider just going to the emergency room if those thoughts get too strong.

Congratulations on having such a long successful marriage, and on getting out of the wtbts before you lost your minds.
