on principle [or obstinancy], we are determined to stand our ground and fight for what we believe in.
on other occasions, we conclude that ours is a lost cause and that we need to take our leave of certain people and issues.. there's rarely a simple, cut-and-dry approach, but i am interested in how you've dealt with the opposites of flght and flight in your struggles.
I would also very much agree with nvrgnbk that it's timing. My sister is showing signs of doubt now so I am very slowly dropping little tidbits of info to her. A year ago I would have never even thought about it.
That is what worked for me. But it was mostly seeing others that had left and that they were happy and productive. My dad was the first one. When you are living in the same house it's hard to miss it. He never once said anything to me negative about the JW's. His hapiness said it all.
any particular event sparked this change of heart ?.
I never did as far back as I can remember. I just had to get out of my parent's house before I made it official. Very soon I will let my JW mom know that I got baptised just to shut her, the elders and the rest of the family up. She still has the deluded idea that deep inside I am still a JW and will come back when "the sytem" gets worse. She will probably end up on psych meds when she hears that. But that is not my problem, it will be hers and hers alone to deal with.

My wife and I have not repeated the cycle either with our daughter. We all have the capacity to grow and change for the better when we have a reason to do so.

That describes my twisted parents exactly except now they do not have any kids to beat on. Just a year ago my JW mom got arrested for slapping another lady that did some work for my mom. And she wonders why my wife and I will not let our daughter stay there without us.
I enjoyed telling my mom "serves you right" when she called me after being booked for second degree assualt. She was in a panic and needed to find out if I knew a good defense attorney. How she got out of being DFd is beyond me.
due to the way i was raised a jw i constantly felt guilt for trying to act like the other guys and it made me stand out even worse.
to this day, due to this, i nowdays become somewhat physically ill whenever i hear a brother give a talk where he says (many here have heard it in different forms) "if jehovah was looking at you youths in the congregation during school could he tell the difference between you and a worldy person.
" myself and most of the other jw guys during middle school and high school did not have the confidence or the "rough and ready to fight" type of body language so we tended to get picked on.
I did all the way through elementary school and part of junior high school. If I had a nickle for every time I was called a commi for not saluting the flag. It's hard not to stick out like a turd in a punchbowl being JW kid in school. The fact my parents allowed that to happen for so long is mind boggling. There is no rational explaination for putting a child through that for so many years.
so i started my new job last week as a decorator at a very upmarket furniture and decor store... i am on my feet for most of the day and i am really battling to cope with the tired legs and sore feet daily... for anyone that works on their feet all day, do you ever really get used to it, or do you just learn to ignore the pain?
what should i be doing to minimise the pain?
any tips and suggestion would be appreciated for this tired princess?.
My job keeps me on my feet all day and all I can do is buy good quality shoes and use the silicone gelled insoles. Doing massage therapy people always ask if hands or wrists ever get sore. They are always surprised when I tell them it's my feet. I had to try several brands of padded insoles to get one that actually worked.
The ones I have now are working great (so far).
I just sent my parents a very nasty letter last night "thanking" them for raising me in a twisted sick cult. For putting me through a childhood where I felt like a freak and being made fun of, getting beat up alot. I also thanked them for all the split lips, bloody noses and black eyes they gave me and have never apologized for. Nevermind they would be arrested now for doing the same thing.
My mom made the mistake of sending me a whiny assed letter asking why she does not get to see her grandaughter very much. So I explained to her that my daughter is not going to be around violent and twisted people until they show they have changed and realize the damage that it does.
They got both barrels right between the eyes and today I am composing part two of the letter. It felt good to release twenty five years of anger and hurt Directly at the resposible parties. My two JW sisters have allready severed ties with them so they issues go far beyond the cult.
i was logging onto the site today (my log in does not stay because i am on a public computer) so wheni was prompt to put in my email address and pass word and the security number that allows your log in to be successful, my number was 1666 .
as i have stumbled on, that is the exact same number of pages that the nwt, i'm not even a jw or never been.
lol.
They have laser technology now that does a great job of removing them.
