  "Fancy Dress" and large social gatherings are banned in our Halls! Why?

  yes we hosted the ultimate "fancy dress" party.

  some did come as cowboys with guns {cringe} pirates with swords {cringe} and a male servant/pioneer came as a female balerina {oh my god nearly got deleted!

  } but what's the big deal!

  Back in the 1970's there was a series of Big JW Parties in the LA area. Sometimes costumes and sometimes formal. Big, I'm talking 'tickets' sold. This was just around the time of Michael Jackson and Thriller. Some bros were going to Hollywood makeup artists for full on Wolfman or Frankenstein makeup. I remember it all fondly. We got to meet other JW teens from places other than your local KH.....the better for the gene pool.

  So it was not long before the hammer came down hard. Letters read, scriptures sighted. The rule of 'no large groups' went to the extre and then a party of 10 was considered uncontrolable. One of the huge issues was also men dressing as women. The homophobia amoung JW's is nauseating.

  Thanks Besty, I thought you would know. The video's are so professionally produced, excellent quality, provocative, very creative. Not surprizing to learn he may be developing and even bolder campaign. Waiting in excitment.

  Don't ask questions

  several weeks ago, a witness poster said that the rank and file at his cong were told by elders not to ask questions.

  i may have misunderstood what the poster was saying.

  has anyone on the forum heard anything like this?

  Nugget has it right, Questioning is not an aspect of JW culture. So much so that most conductors do not recognize a question as language. Often dead air is the only answer.

  Elder uses Congregation Bible Study as an opportunity to ban the movie Avatar

  last night, during the congregation bible study, the conductor (overseer?

  ) used this as a platform to say that the movie avatar is of satan and no christians should see it.. .

  he said that he googled the (original) meaning of the word avatar and it was of hindu religious origin.

  My MIL and her pioneer friends go to the movies every Fri afternoon, senior price. An R rating is the only thing that stops them from seeing every film out. They have seen Avatar twice.

  Thank you Ann for your insightful comments. I agree that issues were exaggerated for the 'entertainment' value. Of course every individual has a unique perspective and experience so I offer my sympathy to this young women.

  From my perspective as a 'born in' JW my childhood was wonderful. Every congergation has a wide range of 'personalities' from the odd ball to the uber self titled intelectual to the edgy fashion teen and self rightous pioneer. Most often a pretty 'well' rounded group as with any club or organization one might join. There were the old school elders with the heavy hand and then the softies that wouldn't hurt a fly. There are a million stories in the WTBS.

  The bigger issue is that this so called TRUTH is a Lie. They teach a life and death message that if you do not dedicate your life to this one particular organization then you will DIE and everybody in the whole wide world that is not a JW is also going to DIE. No exaggeration needed.

  Deleted Elders?

  i knew about elders being "deleted" and have commented what a strange and pejorative term that is, but it wasn't until "wtwizard" and "designs" commented on another thread about it that it actually hit home for me.. one cannot step down as an elder with any dignity!

  elder's can't quit, with the word "quit" being as in "he quit his job.

  " elder's can't resign as in "he resigned as chairman of the board for xyz corp.".

  When my husband resigned as an elder the announcment read, Bro XX has been deleted as an elder, turn to song #.

  He had given an outside speaking assignment and one elder from the cong did not like the way our 12yr son's hair was cut so he requested my husband not give talks at their hall anymore. Our BOE decided to take away his 'privilege' of outside speaking all together but he could still give talks at our hall. Of course my husband was infuriated that these idiot bros did not stand up for him and in effect treated him like a child needing disipline. Arguments incurred and he put in a letter of resignation but they would not accept it. More meetings were called, CO called, DO called, NY called, all said he could not resign, the BOE had to 'remove' him. They did not want to remove him because they were a bunch of lazy ass's and he was the only decent speaker and MSO. They begged him to stay, bribed him with 'lighter duties' He didn't care how or what was said, just wanted out.

  After the announcment he was asked to give the prayer but declined. We made sure everyone in the hall was aware of the issue and that he had done nothing wrong. We had a group of supporters that we did not even want, so unchristian to take sides. The true colors of the entire WTBS became clear. They do not care for the sheep, the dignity of a bro is their least concern.

  SISTERS ON THE RAMPAGE!!

  it was well commented on by the older ones in the borg that the sisters were on the rampage when it came to trying to get themselves married.. it was normal practice for sisters in the same click or age group to visvously stab eachother in the back, exlude them as much as possible from social events and gossip about them as much as possible.

  by the time i had left this was such an established practice that it seemed normal.. all this in the hopes that they would be able to bag one of the rare single and sane brothers... at least this is what it was like in my part of the world... what about yours?.

  every social culture has it's desperate single women. JW's are particularly frantic because the lifestyle is so narrow.

  I had 3 very good looking sons and believe me, I had to beat the women off with sticks. Not only the girls but the mothers of the girls. More than once I nearly had a hair pulling, knock down drag out fight with sisters over them setting husband traps for their daughters.

  One time a girls mother actually proposed a prearranged marriage as a 'protection' of our children. I am still in shock, AS IF! After a 2hr disscussion of why this was a BAD IDEA, she was still determinded to get my son. She is now his MIL very sad

  i was in the truth all my life, i pioneered and was deeply involved.

  i left because i realised the real truth and i could not live a hypocritical life.

  the first year was terrible, i went to the lowest of low.

  You've come a long way baby, er, we've all come a long long way and it feels GREAT! Thank you for the great advice to others looking for a way Out. I agree, begin to develope friendships outside and take your leave on your own terms. We will never again alow a cult to do our thinking for us. Girls rule, the WTBS drool!

  regarding the instruction not to hold hands or embrace during prayer I heard this comment last week 'Jehovah has directed the brothers through the FDS not to have their Hands All Over Their Wives during the prayer. This might be difficult for some and we may not understand why but it's not for us to question the society. There is plenty of time at home for such conduct'

  When in service in an upscale area sisters would pick out which house they were going for after the mass genocide...er, Armagedon.
