I used to think the same way that I'd rather wait till the "new system" to have children. Now, my only concern is that I don't want to raise them JW, but that will be hard cuz my wife is still a dub.

Bringing Children Into This World
by Mysterious insince leaving the jws how has your opinion of "bringing children into this world" changed?.
it floored me the other day to hear a 19 year old non-jw say she didn't want to bring kids into the world because of the state it was in.
it struck me as a very jw thing to say, or at least something i would not expect from a young person..

Last Night an Elder called me,,,,but
by orangefatcat ini didn't answer the telephone, i just didn ' t feel like getting all riled up as i have enough on my plate right now.. it was the same elder who showed up at my bedside while i was recently in the hospital.
i told the hospitals administration years ago to take my off the jw list for visitations.
so i was quite shocked to see this guy.

WTWizard highly recommends the caller id approach. I heartily agree.
But I went one step further and dumped the land line entirely. My wife and I each have a cell phone, and we only give the number out to a few people. I asked my wife that if she has to give a number to an elder or someone else in the congregation, give them her number as I don't wish to be bothered. It works great for me. Plus, the cell phones have caller id, too. Only people you add to your contact list show up with names...all the rest are just phone numbers. Easy to weed out unknown or unexpected calls that way. We also get zero telemarketing calls.

Positive changes in your life since leaving WBTS
by Mrs Smith infor me it's the friendships i have made with people that would have been considered too wordly to be friends with while i was still a jw.
leaving behind the guilt of never been good enough or doing enough.
celebrating the birthday of my precious children making them feel like king and queen for the day.

What's the worst thing that happened but you still made it to the meeting?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inno matter if you are tired, sick, worked late, heavy snow,or any other reason, you were never to miss the meetings.
i went to a 2 day assembly with 4 teeth pulled the day before.
my gums were bleeding all day but i still went to the assembly .there was a brother who was in a bad car accident the week before with his daughter in a coma.

I developed a history of skipping a lot of meetings...felt a bit guilty, but skipped them nonetheless. My excuses began that I was sick and didn't want to spread the sickness to others, then that I was up all night playing video games and needed to sleep sometime (I got a shepherding call on that one...teehee), and finally, that I was just too depressed to do much of anything. Notice the progression here: physical sickness to escaping reality to depression. All beginning within a year of being baptized seven years ago and ending with my becoming a permanent fader about 2 years ago. The rampant hypocrisy was one reason for my depression, I believe. Also, once the real truth began to dawn on me, I began regretting my decision to be baptized.

What is/was the last most believable date for second coming/Armageddon?
by AllAlongTheWatchtower ini was never a witness, i joined this site after my wife started studying with them, and i got upset over some of the things that resulted from that.
however, i grew up in a similar high-control group called the worldwide church of god.
much like the witnesses, in the mid 70s ( i forget the exact year, i was only in elementary school in those days, but it may have been 75, just like jws), there was a big push toward the end being at hand, the great tribulation is coming, etc etc.

ok...here it is...armageddon will begin in 2036...Apophis (an asteroid) will pass so close to earth in 2029 that earth's gravity grabs it and makes it impact 7 years after. They just had a show on this on the history channel, I think. It fits some of Revelation...all that 7 year tribulation stuff...a huge mountain or some such mass being hurled into the ocean. And worldwide chaos ensuing.
Heh...this is a combination of my Pentecostal upbringing, my 7 years of being a JW, and the serious need to take a shower and go to bed for the day.
Or is it 2012 when the Mayan calendar says the end will come? hmmm....
<new edit>: sorry, m...i guess i should have read your post first about the mayan thingie. and i was born august 1975. hmmm! two people born in 1975 having the same idea about the mayas and 2012. It's a sign!!! a sign, i tell you!

I was just thinking about this on the way home from work this morning. (I work nights.) What a coincidence! Anyway, I feel like a free man...self-confidence is boosted, guilt is gone, and life is looking so positive now. My depression is almost completely gone (still have a bad day every once in a while, but who doesn't?).
I just got a promotion at work today (from grunt to management), and I was thinking on the way home that before when I was an active dub, I always felt guilty about trying for a promotion. Now I feel like life is worthwhile and that I'm good enough to succeed and move up in the company. That I can still retain my humility and have a little ambition instead of subscribing to the WT ideal of being an entry-level worker forever. I'm getting along great with people at work since I'm not trying to avoid associating with them anymore. I have true friends now whose friendship doesn't depend on what I believe or how regular I am in some "preaching" work.
I am also glad I am making my parents and brother happy again by being able to celebrate holidays with them again...like we used to years ago.
I just feel free and confident and...happy! When I was one of "the happiest people on earth," I didn't feel this way. How strange.

there were weeds with pretty little flowers and some cherry trees trying to grow.
i just mowed them down because i like the way grass looks better.

That is perhaps one of the coolest illustrations I've ever seen, seriously. I like the way you think. You'd do well in the theocratic ministry school, though. Use of illustration.
I have to mow the lawn today, so guess what I'll be thinking of when I do it.

no one knows when they will die.
This line of reasoning is something relatively new for me that I'm hearing more and more of...it's a way to explain the following seeming paradox of the 1st century Christians being told that the end was very near, and 2000 years later, we being told the same thing that the end is very near. In other words, it's very near in the sense that when you die, it is the end for you regardless of when the actual end is. Simply put, if I die before Armageddon and then am resurrected into the "new system," from my point of view, I wake up and I'm there. The big A could happen in 3014, but for me, it will happen the day I die, and the next thing I know, I'll be awake in "paradise." So with that in mind, to say "the end is near" is always true, no matter when the end really happens.
I'm not saying I believe that way. I'm just explaining why your mom would contradict herself and say even if the end isn't near, and that part about dying. Witnesses have a "unique" way of thinking...of explaining away paradoxes and contradictions. Makes the mind boggle.

Bad biblical names for a child
by erandir inthe practice of choosing biblical names for children is present in many forms of christianity.
in latin america, countless boys are named jesus either as a first name or second name.
there is even that singer jesus jones.

Mahershalalhashbaz (great for kindergarten age to learn their letters).
LOL...yep...that's certainly one plus side to that...too bad they'll be beaten up frequently on the play ground
I always wanted to have a friend called Nabel which sort of means "stupid". Then I'd make a t-shirt with an arrow pointing to the side saying, "I'm with Nabel."
Thanks for all the ideas...you guys are hilarious.
