Depends on how well I knew them and how they treated me when they were alive. Good people are good people no matter what religion they are.

Still go to jw funerals?
by Dune ini've been fading for about 6 months now and a couple of witnesses in my old congregation have died.
a smidget of me wanted to go for the sentimental reasons.
but i knew i wouldnt be able to handle the 'lovebombing', the questioning and a restart on harassment by the elders.

How far would they go?
by barbar ina while ago my mother said that if the society asked the jws to do something that was wrong they wouldn't do it.
it is already easy for them to go against their own consciences, many don't feel it is right to shun others but they do it because they are told to.
most would feel dreadful with letting their children die but would do it if blood was needed because the society tells them to.

If it was printed in the watchtower with some scriptures to "support" it, then yes...I beleive that anything's possible and there are people in the organization that are that dependent so as to cease using logic and common sense in favor of what their religion asks of them.. I doubt very much, though that it would go that far.

Question for Former/Current Elders.....
by Lumptard ini recently received a phone call from an elder about an alegation that one of my ex-girlfriends brought up to the elders in her cong (the thing that she told the elders about was supposed to have happened 5 years ago when we were still together).
he told me what she had said about me and i said "o.k.
" in order to not confirm or deny that it was true.

I asked him if he was accusing me of this sin and he said "once someone brings up something like this, then it becomes an accusation."
I was under the impression that in order to accuse someone of a sin, that an Elder must speak with you in the company of at least another brother. Is a phone call like this supposed to even happen? Is it likely that if i go back to the hall (long shot) that they can confront me about these alegations?

I think there on to me...
by thebiggestlie inmaybe i'm just a bit paranoid but i think my parents may be on to me.
i hope i didn't blow my cover.... i was out with some jw kids and realised that i left all my "apostate" research and my notebook out on my desk in my room.
when i got home my mother was crying in her room.

Sounds like you're farged for sure. Just try to convince your parents & the subsequent elder inquirers that you were trying to get questions answered that the WT had confused you about and that you were afraid that people would think you were an apostate if you brought it up with anyone else. This may even be the truth. Just make sure that you convince everyone that you aren't trying to undermine the WTBTS and then make up your own mind about things. What other people beleive you think doesn't need to be the same thing that you actually think.

Are you a 'Life is Over-rated' or a 'life is what you make it' type person?
by needproof ini was wondering who out there is a 'life is what you make it' type person.
i must admit that i am a 'life is over-rated' type.
i don't wish to sound negative but how can you say to a kid born in war torn sudan 'oh, get over it... life is what you make it!'.

Depends on what day it is...today, life is overrated. Life is what happens between drinks.

Ever hear an experience at an assembly that you KNOW was slanted?
by Bonnie_Clyde ini remember one at a district assembly.
a brother was being interviewed as to why he never chose over time work at his job.
he said he worked for a small printing company and that he was content with working regular hours.

guilt feelings sometimes
by amara ini was raised as a jw from the age of 4, my father was an elder for 18 years, was a auxillary pioneer for years, been there done all that and decided to leave at age 30, i have chosen a pagan path and am very happy but sometimes i feel guilty for no reason, does anyone else ever have this problem?
if you do, how do you handle it?

Welcome
Just try to focus on your reasons for making the choices you made. Obviously you are convinced that it is not the truth, so try to look at it from the point of view that whatever guilt that comes from your current lifestyle is just a residual instinct from your many years as a JW. The JWs have a very effective program that stays in our mind and heart long after we are out.
Maybe analyze under what circumstances you start to feel guilty and try to address those instances from a logical standpoint. Kind of like after you see a scary movie, your instinct is to be afraid of your shadow but you can dissolve that by thinking rationally and reassuring yourself that you know the truth about your experience.

Why don't YOU believe anymore?
by Crumpet insomeone on another site was asking "what if they are right?
" which made me think about why i know that they are not and i wondered what was your epiphany or road to damascus moment or moments that just made you realise - hey i've been led up the garden path here!.
here was my response but i really think a list of reasons on one thread for easy reference for newbies would be good.

The first thing that got me was the elders in my cong placed a great deal of emphasis on conforming to certain outward appearances. Seeing how gross "sin" was going on without any action being taken and they were so adament about my appearance because it was not exactly the same as was depicted in the WT made me realize that these were the opinions of men and not god...But I thought Jehovah would take care of it so I didn't let it get me down.
A few years later, the elders' dealings with me because I was dating a girl who was raised as a JW, but wasn't baptized (but was going over the baptism questions) really made me think twice. They told me that since she wasn't baptized, then I couldn't date her. I found this unreasonable, so continued to date her and eventually was marked for it. Because of that, I was kicked out of my parents' house (which was encouraged by the elders). 2 weeks before she was baptized, she cheated with a worldly guy and smoked weed, yet she still was allowed to be baptized. W/in the year she was engaged to a JW and is currently a pioneer with a MS husband.
After letting all of this fester for a while, I started looking into a way that I could justify that an organization that allows this type of thing to happen is really led by god. Eventually, I stumbled upon the UN thing and this reinforced what my gut was telling me. I decided to talk to some elders about all of the doubts that I had, but no one could give me a straight answer that quelled my concerns. I'm still searching for the truth.

If it could be proven that God is backing the organization, then yes...........(snicker)
