Called on a number of school acquaintances. The stress levels were always sky high when I was in my school catchment area. The worst was when I called on a girl who I had a thing going with in school, around 20 years ago now and I can remember it as clear as day. How can a sane, intelligent human being be expected to grow up not hating the religion. Ah yes, cognitive dissonance.

Knocking on the Doors of Classmates out in service
by new light incould anything have been more embarrassing?
you could be at the door of the least popular munger in school, but overwhelmed with envy because, hey, at least he was doing something normal.
in 8th grade, at the peak of childhood self-consciousness, i knocked on the door of a super popular, rich, "in" kid from my class and he answered the door.

It works!
After presenting the facts, Rutherford noted: “When the people are told the facts about a crowd that is operating under a religious cloak to steal their rights, the Hierarchy howls and says: ‘Lies! Put a gag in the mouths of those and do not permit them to speak.’” Then he asked: “Is it wrong to publish the truth concerning a bunch of hijackers that are robbing the people? No! . . . Shall honest men be gagged and compelled to remain silent while this bunch of hijackers destroy the liberties of the people?

Watchtower 2008 dumb logic= "Belief in evolution makes you an orphan."
by Witness 007 inwatch, feb 1 2008 p.4 "if we really are the product of evolution and there is no creator, the human race would in a sense, be an orphan.
mankind would have no source of superior wisdom to consult- no one to help us solve our problems.
we would have to rely on human wisdom to avert enviromental disaster, to solve political conflicts, and to guide us through our personal crises.

So I did the unthinkable
by veen ini decided enough was enough and had a no holds barred conversation with a room of around a dozen 'believers'.
a number of things had been troubling me all night, but the final straw was when my brother-in-law said 'isn't it funny how the acronym std can stand for both, sexually transmitted disease and satan the devil.'.
i couldn't stand the frustration anymore so i pointed out how irrelevant that fact was, and how if we spoke a different language the same conclusion could probably not be made.

Yeah, I've only one brother in law. The funny thing is he was one of the quiet ones, I don't think he believes really and he says this type of thing just to mess people about.
Some other gems which came out were "Annie Lennox asks all witnesses to leave her concerts because they prevent her receiving the energy she needs from the demons." Which is strange, because I listened to her live in concert last week and there was no mention of such things. I didn't think she was so amazing that some supernatural force was at work, in fact in my years as a sound engineer I've heard local singers who exhibit a greater talent than her.
And another beaut was "They (meaning scientists) have said the Earth will be uninhabitable in 20 years time due to global warming." Funny that. I read New Scientist all the time and always read newspaper articles concerning the issue, including the recent coverage of the summit in Bali, and never once have I heard such a view presented by anyone.
Shame everyone left so quickly, if they took the time surely they could talk me round.
Just for Thomas Cov, Tim H was the most quiet, Nicky said she couldn't care less about the people she calls on in the ministry and it wouldn't bother her if everyone died, she only does it because she 'loves' Jehovah. Ahem. Kelly walked out crying "Why can't you just let us believe it." Oh dear.

I couldn't stand the frustration anymore so i pointed out how irrelevant that fact was, and how if we spoke a different language the same conclusion could probably not be made. And how Jehovah is the only person capable of creating sexually transmitted disease in the first place, so not to place the blame on Satan anyway. I went on to say how many times I had heard this type of comment made by different jw's throughout my life and how bothered I was with the effect it can have on people who are weak minded, including children, and how it can have a very subtle effect even on intelligent people.
Well that was it. The people most shocked at how Satan was controlling my mind came back at me big time with all their favorate faith strengtheners, like how could I explain their friend going to a seance and believing there was a spirit there. If the 'truth' is not true, then seeing as I think I'm cleverer than them all what else is a better explaination for their existence...etc.
The ones I always thought don't really believe kept their mouths shut. And within 20 minutes they had all gone home, demonstrating their lack of faith when faced with the prospect of talking about the reality of their religious beliefs with someone capable of giving a sensible answer back.
One hell of a can of worms I opened up that's for sure.

Is It Entrapment?
by minimus inin columbus ohio it is not against thye law for a woman to sunbathe topless in a city park.
recently, a firefighter walked by a woman who was sunbathing topless and they began talking.
she playfully put her foot on his body and then asked him if he would show her his penis.

Bethel wifeswapping phenomenon
by veen inso i've got some friends who are international construction volunteers, and have spent the last few years traveling to different bethels around the world.
i was talking to one of them in the pub on the weekend, and she said that they have separate saunas for men and women in all the bethels because every bethel she's been to has had a problem with wifeswapping taking place in them.. .

Help needed answering someone on another forum.
by veen ini've been having a debate with some guys, non jw's, on a different forum.
how would you reply to this?.
most of the things mentioned in revelation are perfectly believable and likely to happen, like asteroid/meteor impacts, wars, famine (food insecurity is going to be a major problem as the world's population increases).

Most of the things mentioned in Revelation are perfectly believable and likely to happen, like asteroid/meteor impacts, wars, famine (food insecurity is going to be a major problem as the world's population increases). The mark of the beast (RFID chips) is very likely to happen. One world government and one world religion is very likely to happen. The Euphrates drying up (Biblical prophecy) is possible, Turkey constructed a super-dam across it in the early 90's. These things sound like fantasy but in the political climate that the world is moving towards, are very much possible. We know all about a new world order and a single world government because we've been brought up in a highly technological society where instant communications are possible, where global/transnational political insitutions exist, where English is the dominant language and where military power can be projected internationally at ease. How would somebody writing Revelation back in ancient times have any understanding of those issues, which are necessary pre-conditions for fulfilling a biblical prophecy such as an antichrist figure forming a single global regime? Perhaps Dean could enlighten us. I find that the dogmatic atheists on this board are just as fixed in their views as the religious people out there, whereas the handful of Christians on this board generally only bring it up if somebody else raises it first (usually by taking a pot shot). For some reason there is a trend at the moment to bring up Christianity in debates as if it's the cause of all the worlds problems, and it is cool to attack Christianity and people's personal faith, even though the Christian faith is in decline in our country.
