Had a blazing row with an elder on the phone one time. Without our knowledge he took our 16 year old son in the back room and accused him of having sex with a young girl. It wasn't true and our son was really upset by the accusation. I was livid. The stupid prick had not told us or let us handle it gently. Calling him a bloody idiot seemed to piss him off bigtime.

What did you find upset elders the most ?
by KAYTEE inwhat i found that upset elders more than most things was, when you made them verify their statement with scriptural backing.. when you showed their complete lack of common sense coupled with lack of christian knowledge.. on one occasion when having a heated discussion, i constantly made them refer to the org.
book for the answer, they ridiculed me, saying "are you getting your little green book out again".. all i was trying to point out was the answer (according to the society) on the subject at hand, most organisation will have some sort of code of conduct, the little green book was theirs.. they wanted to be right in all things even if it meant going against the org.. kt.

by bronzefist inhttp://www.sendspace.com/file/2bs4od.
once again a heavy on jesus issue, because the memorial is approaching.
the "fds" also want blondie to calm down because she's always bringing up the lack of jesus being mentioned in the majority of the issues.. the picture of the 125th gilead graduation on page 23 caught my eye thanks to jwd.

What good would a DA letter do?
by dogon ini have long thought of doing this, but could never see any good it would do except make me feel good for a few seconds.
i also feel that when you do this you let them win.
they always say that we told you so, or now he is gone and our congregation is clean bla bla bla.

My letter did me the world of good. It wasn't easy being shunned especially by friends but I really NEEDED to be totally seperated from the deceitful liars that is the Society.
Now the witlesses see me happier than I've ever been before, they even do a double-take when they see me they're so shocked at the change.
So I guess whats best is down to personal circumstances and the individual. Best thing I ever did.

Those here who disassociated- do you regret it?
by JimmyPage indoes anyone here who disassociated regret it?
do you wish you had just faded instead?
did disassociating give you a liberating feeling of power over your life?

Nope, no regrets.
I'm shunned every day and I can't say its been easy to bear cos it hasn't at times. But the more I'm shunned the more convinced I am I made the right decision.
Interesting convo with my witness dad the other day. Dad was moaning that if I hadn't DA'd then the poor bro's wouldn't have to shun me. In other words it was all my fault they are having to do this.
I let him talk and then reminded him about the JW's in Nazi concentration camps. They stood up for what they believed was right and were persecuted by the Gestapo for it.
I asked him whose fault was it that they were persecuted? Was it their fault for not heiling Hitler and signing his bit of paper? Or was it the fault of the Gestapo for being tyrannical bullies?
I then said the the bro's are the tyrannical bullies for shunning, just like the Gestapo.
JW's are very proud of the Witness stand during the War, yet if I copy their example and stand up for what I beleive is right, how come its MY fault when the bro's behave badly?? Their hypocrisy is disgusting.
Dad went very quiet.

Professional Counseling vs. "Bible Study"
by insearchoftruth inwe found out that my stepson had committed a crime against our neighbor, having stolen a significant amount which would amount to larceny.
the neighbor has agreed to not call the police due to the desire to not have a record pinned against our child, with the agreement that we obtain counseling for him.
my wife has still not sought out the professional counseling, but has him instead doing a 'bible study' with a member of the congregation she is studying with (happens to be the husband of the gal she is studying with) reading various chapters of the young people ask 2 book.

boyzone, I wish I could take him, but she will tell him how awful it will be, and also for the most part not allow time for it to happen.......he is starting to act out against her and her JWness, but she does not see it......and I think she will end up just pushing him away from her as soon as he is old enough to leave....he is just under 16 now.
Then I think its time you sat down with your wife and have a calm talk to her. Make her aware of how the lad really feels about the JW's (without betraying a confidence if you can) and the likely consequence of her bible study.
If she tells him how awful it will be, then give your stepson the reigns here. Let HIM decide what he wants to do. Remind him that the agreement with the neighbour is for him to go to councilling. If he doesn't, the agreement is broken and the neighbour has the right to report the matter to the police. Does your stepson really want that to happen?
If you give him control, then with your support he can go to his mum and tell her what he prefers to do. On top of the talk with your wife, the two of you might be able to gain some ground and get him some worthwhile help.

I can only suggest you take him to councilling yourself (if he's agreeable) as well as the bible study. Then let the lad tell you which one he's benefitted from the most.

Plus, they worry themselves sick about even the imagined threat of fornication, even where none exists.
Yep, thats probably it.
When my 2 eldest boys were teenagers I was so uptight about everything. Who they hung out with, who they were friends with, what they watched, what they listened to etc. Even a slight sniff of a female on the horizon made me launch into a frenzy of panic imagining they were at it at every opportunity. The lectures I gave those poor boys, oh lordy lordy!!
In reality I probably pushed so hard that they hot footed it outta the WT the first opportunity they got. (thankfully).
Lets hope this young lad you know does the same.

When our family was part of the Mudgeeraba congregation on the Gold Coast (aus) the elders specifically mentioned from the platform the Harry Potter movies and The Lord of the Rings trilogy as evil and no Jehovahs Witnesses should go to see them. Our family saw them them twice but we had to go out of town and be v e r y careful we weren't spotted. Some who were caught were councilled.
So where's the personal choice there?

Former Regular Pioneer...Former JW
by geevee injust supplying a link to a newspaper article that was sent to me by a friend.
this guy [not the friend] conned them all.
worse still he was obviously believed by the spirit appointed and spirit directed, until it was too late.

Is this guy a JW? I couldn't see anything that linked him to them.

Yes. my friends.
They come into where I work all the time after field service (I work in a coffee shop). They all act as if I'm a total stranger to them despite me being part of their lives for over 20 years. They can go elsewhere for their coffee but they choose to come to where I work. Why do they do that?
They don't look at me, speak to me (unless giving their order) or smile at all. That hurts. In fact it hurts like hell some days and I end up in tears in the kitchen.
They are so cruel.
