"Be obedient to those taking the lead"!! Don't the brothers know that "obedience" is relative?? It means "to be persuaded by". If you're not persuaded by those taking the lead, then you're certainly not obliged to be obedient to them, especially when they're wrong!!

" the need to confess to jehovah was emphasized.
as jehovah's representatives, the elders said we therefore needed to confess to them.
Chris, your one brave guy and I'll be thinking about you on Saturday. I've only got one piece of advice and thats TAKE CHARGE. Not just of yourself, but the conversation too. Remember, the only control they have over you and your marriage is what you give them.

the wts has announced the usual handbill invitation "campaign" for the conventions this year.
i haven't seen a copy but i assume that it will be similar to the one for congregation meetings and from previous years.
the usual 30 per publisher allocation.. i seriously wonder about the efficacy of these campaigns.
Living on a smalll Island off the south coast of the UK, (Isle of Wight) JW's here are assigned to attend the Bournmouth district convention on mainland UK. (approx 25 miles away) This includes an expensive car ferry journey (approx £60-£100) then a 3 day stay at a hotel (approx £200-£300), Food for the 3 days (£100+) not including any peripheral expenses. Even if a visitor only attended one day they'd still have to pay for the ferry fare and their food and fuel costs.
Whats the chances of getting someone to attend on the stength of a handbill? Sub-zero.
This is just Busywork, its pointless and means nothing, just like all the other handbill campaigns they've done.

Yeah I got the feeling it was the "kingdom of God in your heart" comment that got butts off chairs. Totally outta order for JW's to make a scene like that at gramma's funeral, I thought Jedediah was talking pretty reasonable.

I agree with Ann on this. I felt it wasn't that accurate in certain statements but given the Daily Mail and its journalistic licence I'm not surprised.
What really got to me was the stupid statement from the Wachtower spokesman at the end of the article. It said,
"'We offer freedom of choice and if anyone decides to leave the group, it's up to them'.
After reading this tripe, I had to leave a comment on there.

My JW dad is 82 and not in good health and I'm dreading the day when I have to face them all at his funeral. The thought of walking thru the KH doors and having to face those cruel people again makes me feel physically sick.

being that my husband is still going to most of the meetings, i tied into the meeting sunday to see what the co had to say on his last day at the hall.
one thing i found interesting is that we may die in this system.
he said when he first learned the "truth" he just knew for sure that the system would end before he was baptized and he was so stressed out from it.
And elder called Bob Emmett was giving a baptism talk once and said to the candidates "have you got your cossies ready?" (short for swimming costume). Some old timers hauled him over the coals for that one - they felt he was being far too familiar and worldly for such an important occassion.
Then there was the CO Bill Harris who asked for a show of hands for all those who had an "armageddon car". Lots of old-timers put their hands up and laughed when he said, "and how many armageddon cars have you had since?"
another successful attempt to downplay and trivialise the endless waiting, and the R&F fall for it every time.
