Closer2fine,
This is a good thing for you, as ratcheting up the end time prophecy is all about irrational hysteria, and has no basis in reason.

if i have to sit here and listen to the father reading any more experiences from the yearbook i'm gonna puke.
hes all happy cause they are such great experiences.
they hold on so desperately to hear something exciting because their own daily lives are so bleak.
Thirdson,
My pleasure,

A brother with a family of eleven, including an adopted daughter and pioneer living with them, wanted to get all of them overseas to the international assembly in Fiji. Only one source of finance was available. His employers kept a superannuation fund to be withdrawn on retirement or in very exceptional circumstances. Having worked there many years, the brother figured he would have enough in it to get the family to the assembly. Reasoning that integrity and faith in Jehovah will get one through the coming tribulation whether one has money in a fund or not, he resolved to invest his fund toward guaranteeing his family’s future spiritual survival.
It was not until the week of travel to the assembly that he was able to contact his managing director. Naturally, his director felt as many would. He wondered why a family man would wish to withdraw his only security against the future and chance leaving nothing for them if something happened to him. The brother explained the importance to him and his family as Jehovah’s worshipers of attending the assembly and that this was the only way for them to get to Fiji. His being a respected and trusted employee, his director favorably granted the request and made an unprecedented exception in letting him withdraw his superannuation fund in full. Happy and thankful to Jehovah for this blessing, he went the following day and paid his family’s ship fares to Fiji. The family then joyfully prepared to leave.
Later that week, however, the brother was informed that the ship was strike-bound in another country and would not be sailing as expected. The only other way out of the country, so as to be at the assembly in time, was by air at greater expense. Suffice it to say that the brother and his family enjoyed the assembly, with no regrets. They know that only spiritual steadfastness, faith and obedience to Jehovah will preserve them. in the future and not transient material possessions.

I have the 1997 CD-ROM. It may go back further than yours.
In testing my CD-burner, I ended up with several copies of my '97 WT CD-ROM. They're just lying around here, begging for somewhere to go.

Flower,
if i have to sit here and listen to the father reading any more experiences from the yearbook i'm gonna puke. Why not join with your Dad in sharing these fine examples of total stupidity?
Grab the 1971 yearbook, and crack it open to page 134. Read with him there the fine example of the brother from Western Samoa. Yes, the brother with the family of 11, who needed money to attend the international convention being held in Fiji. Read together how this brother approached his employer to request liquidation of his superannuation (retirement) fund in order to have the money to get to the feast of spiritual food. Read "with emphasis" how he reasoned that his retirement fund would be of no use in the coming Great Tribulation!
Marvel at how this brother squandered his family's future finances on the folly of the "faithful and discreet slave's" fuck-up.
It being thirty-one years down the road now, discuss what sort of retirement this brother and his family of 11 might have had. What a great experience from the yearbooks!

if we really took god seriously, we'd begin to listen and love .
by tom ehrich / the dallas morning news .
let's assume that the incarnation, as originally conceived, wasn't about gifts, jingling bells, make-or-break retail sales, school holidays or turkey.
YoYoMaam,
We would start close to home. We would listen to our partners, children, parents, and friends. Listen for their yearnings, for their goodness, for their deepness. The really great thing is, we humans can accomplish everything in the above three paragraphs without any sort of god at all.In time, we might risk listening to our own hearts. We might hear our yearnings, our sadness, our joy, our incompleteness. We might see our hands reaching out for love. We might sit still. We might imagine life without toys and tinsel, without thrones and thrashing, without false conquests. We might become at peace with ourselves.
We might then listen to the world, not as a source of profit or peril, but as a noisy, bruised, restless, and joyful place not unlike our own hearts.

this post is triggered by freepeace's post on alcoholic relationships.
i'd like to share a story of a friend of mine with the hopes that you can provide some advice or insight.
he knows i'm a part of this board and understands how much support/encouragement/advice i get here.
Andi,
When I left the JW's at 16, I went on an absolutely determined crusade to try all the illegal narcotics I could get my hands on. My JW upbringing had put these things (and of course, porneia, in all it's forms) on so high a shelf I simply had to climb up and indulge.
With all due respect to COMF and the organizations he mentions, these drugs do affect the brain and body in different ways, and can be handled with different approaches.
My experiences with cocaine were indeed that of a rollercoaster, tremendous highs and lows, with growing anxiety and paranoia.
The only reason any user doesn't drop it straight away is that the psychic dependancy is an absolute bitch. (Though nothing like the physical dependancy opiates create, it can be tough as hell.)
Pot is not even in the same league. When I got out of my destructive phase, I decided that I would just smoke dope, (I hear it now: Denial, Denial...) and I did go through the arrested juevenile stage that COMF mentions where it still seemed cool to be involved in seeking it out, buying it, testing it, but as I matured it all became rather boring, and eventually I dropped pot totally, not out of a need to do so or by any outside pressure, but by a lack of interest in it.
For several years, I couldn't be bothered toke at all. Then I bumped into some smokers cleaning their dope on the counter in the mens room at a concert, I asked if I could have their seeds, and since then I've had a kind of hobby of growing my own. I have other sources for seeds now, and I grow way more than I could ever use. I still have some of my original batch of '98 in my freezer. That might have something to do with the fact that the last joint I smoked was on my birthday, November 30.
But to come to the point, Andi, if a potential employer came to me with the job offer of my dreams, but it came with the proviso that I'd be drug tested every morning I wouldn't have any problem: The pot would have to go, and it would not be a problem.
If Dave feels that strongly about her pot use, he should present it as a delimiting factor (make or break) and Kammy will decide which of the two will make her happier.
Alternate Advice: Dave, (as far as we know) has no personal knowledge of pot, and yet has fallen in love with a doper. Dave ought to smoke a joint, go for walk in the park, come back and throw one into Kammy and then talk.

a quite interesting article on the possibility of reforming ones religion was printed in the february 1.
1995 issue of the watchtower, which asked the following question: .
"your religiona ship that should never be abandoned?.
perhaps a good number will be jettisoned overboard with the ol'e millstone necklace. / You Know
And Booby, the wannabe King-priest, with no power in this life, will jerk-off wildly as he watches from behind the bushes on the shore.
What else is new?

i remember some people were asking for challah bread recipes but have you gotten a gefilte fish recipe yet?.

Please explain how a kosher chicken differs from regular chicken. What are the regulations, who establishes the regs, how is the verification maintained, who can apply to be a kosher producer, and where can I buy it?

in a discussion about the looming end of this system as propagated by some poster here, larc said:.
i think most economists don't even bother, because larouch is so far off from reality, a true fringe player.
there are many critiques of larouch's politics, which are interesting reading.. to be honest i had never heard from this guy before.
Hey, You Know,
Have you ever figured out why rail traffic was at such a low on Jan. 01, 2000?
Eric
why does god permit suffering?.
excellent site here: http://www.watchtower.org/library/w/2001/5/15/article_01.htm
YoYoMama,
If Jehovah's main concern was his Sovereignty and all the pain and suffering in human history has been allowed to show that man, if left to his own devices, could not produce a fair and equitable society.....
THEN WHAT IN THE NAME OF THE JOVIAN MOONS was he thinking when he screwed up Nimrod's first attempt at centralization by coming down and buggering up our languages??
If this was a bet with human lives at stake, the game has been rigged!
