Umm, exactly what they always do - get all excited about the "new light," and completely ignore the fact that they've been suckered in once again! Any questions, see "unbaptizeds" remark.

Scriptural Proof/Support for the "New Light" doctrine?
by brunnhilde inso i've been thinking a lot about the whole new light thing - how exactly is that justified in the bible by the dubs?
i can't remember anything other than the scripture they quote but there has to be more to it than that!
if i'm having a total braincramp, sorry!

Faders: Would you prefer attention from the elders or not?
by ringo5 inthis question may produce some flaming, but so be it.
i've noticed many are freaked out, annoyed, worried, or simply felt harrassed when faced with the prospect of a visit from the elders when trying to fade.
others, or at times the same ones, complain that they recieved no inquiry from them at all or very little.

I just want them to leave me alone, for their OWN good! I don't think I'd be able to stop myself from going off if they showed up, the stupid gits!

Latest Decorating "must have" for JW's
by restrangled inmom asked me to come over and help with a drapery rod decision.
one of the prominent pieces in the room is a book case by a firm called "cheryl"...quite expensive about 8 feet tall in cream wood with much carving....a beautiful piece.. low and behold, displayed in the center are the 7 books...... "studies in the scriptures".....they don't go with anything, off red covers.
i was shocked.

Oh yeah! It used to be one of my passions to find the old copies of the early publications. Of course they weren't for reading - just for bragging rights *snort*

What Religion Are You?
by choosing life ini know a lot of posters are not religious and others feel no need to attend a church.
but, for those that do attend somewhere, i was curious as to what type of church they chose after leaving the jws and what attracted them to that particular church or religion?
if you were not raised as a jw, did you return to the church you were raised in?

I'm fading so its hard to visit anything without being turned in for apostasy, but we're talking about visiting a UU about 45 mins away. I find it hard to even consider everything. I was so brainwashed into dismissing any other beliefs it tends to get in the way. I want to find SOME kind of spirituality, but I'm so gunshy of being suckered again I can't seem to let my guard down. I'm taking a class on Sacred Texts and Cultures around the world and trying to keep an open mind.

Really Bad Day Today!
by winnie ini woke up to my kids all sick, a letter in the mailbox (put there sneakily sometime early this morning) saying that we should 'return to serve jehovah and become one of the family again' (cannot understand the association of meeting attendance = being part of a family.
family is family no matter what they choose to believe.
) and to top it all off, our 10 year old dog who has been really sick past week, had to be put down a couple of hours ago.

I'm liking Frannie's idea - snicker. Seriously, I wish they would just respect our wishes and leave us ALONE! Really sorry about the kids and the pet - never rains but pours, huh ((((((winnie)))))

So what random rules did YOUR elders impose?
by brunnhilde inevery cong has them, the petty dictators who make up arbitrary rules and insist that the rank and file follow them or pay the penalty.
a couple mine had - sisters could not have skirts that were either too short (above the knee) or too long, below the mid-calf - either extreme was worldly.
also, in order to have privileges (cause there were so many wonderful and fulfilling things for women in the borg) sisters must wear pantyhose.

When I was pioneering and out of work, I showed up late for a field service meeting with my pioneer partner at the time because I'd been putting together resumes. Brother A$$hole had already arranged the groups and we were told if we couldn't show up on time, we could go by ourselves. I could go on and on, but I'm sure we all have LOTS of fun ones to share *snicker*

My Kingdom Hall Beard
by Amazing inin mid-1975: i grew a mustache while i was a ministerial servant (california bay area).
i recall being asked to conduct the book study while my hair was growing.
several acted odd toward me because there was still an ongoing argument about whether having such facial hair was appropriate for men of good example.

I always thought that was one of the more blatantly stupid and pointless "rules" they had. My dad took a lot of flack in the seventies for having a moustache, but strangely enough, it was the one thing he refused to back down about. I love men with beards and think its really attractive.

Old Bible Student Hunts Me Down
by bigmouth inwhen i first got the courage to sign up to jwd all sorts of emotions flooded in.
mostly i was angry at having wasted years of my life struggling to please the watchtower society and god.
in one of my first posts i asked if anyone had gone and apologised to former bible students for teaching them lies, and i thought perhaps i should.

I think its great you're trying to at least plant some seeds of doubt. Personally I can't hide my disgust about the dubs long enough to snooker them into reconsidering. The things they get away with, the things I swallowed whole, just makes me want to scrub the inside of my head with a steel brush!
