Welcome Flicka, and congratulations Twisty! You two are miles ahead of other newbies, because you have each other to weather the storms ahead. Before you talk to family, please read Combatting Cult Mind Control. It will help you to think outside of the box and hopefully help your loved ones to do the same.

Hi - I'm new here!
by Flicka ini have been lurking on this site for the past 2 months.
for the past few years i have been going to the meetings and doing fieldservice out of guilt.. my husband (twisty) told me regularly i only do it out of guilt but i denied it and said it i want to do these things because i love jehovah and it is the right thing to do, but how can it be the right thing if you don't feel welcome and it feels like everyone is judging you the moment you walk into the kingdom hall.. it has taken a few years and a lot of tears to open my eyes.. over the past few years twisty spoke to me about the various things he didn't agree with but it just went over my head.
a few months ago we were lying in bed and he brought up his concerns again, and i'm not sure what was different this time but i understood and agreed with the points he was making.

by exjehovah ini'm new, but i have been acquainted with your site before.
i'm a 40 year old female with a family knee deep in the jw religion.
i left when i was 18 and never looked back, but the majority of my family is still in.

Welcome to JWN! Eventually your anger will become acceptance. As sad as it is, anyone under this cult's mind control is a danger to you. My jw mom has shunned me for more than 20 years to the point that there's no natural affection left on her part, She also shuns my brother who left five years ago. We're her only children. The only people she has left are an elderly abusive husband and a nephew and his wife who are almost as old as she is. No grandchildren or great grandchildren. Her circle of life is closed.
Dear woman, make your own family. You don't necessarily have to share DNA with its members. You have a good start with people here. Private message me if you need to talk. Just click on my name and proceed from there.

My Story
by TheWanderer ini found this site quite a few months ago, after a curiosity search on wikipedia about jws and what's going on with the organization.
i was unfortunately born into it, 4th-generation; my great-grandfather was a special pioneer spreading the word in the early 1900s.
it was all i knew growing up, even though i struggled between trying to conform to make everyone happy ... and finding my own way in life.

Jamie, sorry to hear that. Just unbelievable, I hate this Religion or cult.
Well, I tend to agree with No More Kool Aid when she said:
It has been much easier to leave them behind and start a new life for my family.
My mother is an unhealthy influence in my life as long as she is a jw. She alowed her jw husband to abuse my brother and me and then stood around like a bobble head when the elders insist that I either remain in an abusive marriage or stalk the guy who was threatening to kill me to se whether he would decide to commit adultery or murder. I don't need or want people like that in my life...even if se's my mom.

Jamiebowers: wow, 24 years. Is it because your mom is A JW
Yes. She's a jw, and I was df'd for circumstnces surrounding me leaving an abusive jw husband.

With the exception of three telephone conversations about medical history of her and her family, my mother hasn't spoken to me for 24 years. She was enraged when I called her in the hospital several months back to inquire about her health.

Why worry? It would cost you less since you'll probably be ordered to pay her legal fees.

This story is just as good the second time around. Go to sleep now, dear heart, and get your rest.
