Open Mic Night
by TOTH ini have been considering signing up for open mic night at a local sports bar here in my little town.
when i was about 16 years old i started recording some songs i did alone and also with a couple of friends.
back in 2009 an old girlfriend of mine found a box of my old reel to reel tapes in a box in her mom's garage and she sent them to me.

by Kool Jo ini've been lurking here since late last year...was very hesitant to join the forum because of fear that satan would control my pc.... .
i'm born in, but always had my little doubts about "the truth" since i was young, but went ahead and got baptized ect.... .
i stumbled upon this site while looking for a km and initially thought it was a jw forum, but after seeing some of the titles of various threads, i thought to myself "i'm on an apostate website".

Then for those who have become agnostic/atheists after leaving the WTBS, what do you think is the purpose of life and will it continue like how it is now?
Every person's purpose in life is diffeent. For me it was being a wife, stepmother and now stepgrandmother. In recent years it has evolved into also helping as many exjws as I can to assimilate to life in the real world. It might not sound like much or anything special, like finding a cure for cancer. But it's been a great leap for me, because I was always afraid of having kids, for fear they would have the same nightmare childhood that my brother and I did.
Just take your time. You'll figure out your spiritualality and life path.
Also, the media coverage of the Catholic Church's problem with child abuse is fierce, because several millions of people are Catholic. There are only seven million jws, but there's been quite a bit of coverage about the Watch Tower's cover ups over the years, and i's been worldwide. Here are a few examples:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLAC9kS_EqM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwQoKygx0pE&feature=endscreen&NR=1

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XJQvpduyYA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzWupVczfCQ&feature=related
...i wonder if anyone who has written to WTBS and told them about what we now know about "the truth" got a written response from them?
Please don't do that. Your letter will be sent back to your elders, and you will be df'd or apostasy.

It is my understanding that jws can comfortably attend a family gathering with da'd and df'd relatives if it is held in a public venue such as a social hall or eatery. Whether the party is large or small, the jws can sit at a different table than you, and your parents can sit at their own little table for two.

A Popular Question Raised by people who were never JW.
by Momma-Tossed-Me ini talk to a lot of people about the watchtower because it comes up in conversation all of the time.. money eventually becomes a topic as it is a very wealthy corporation.. so the question is always raised and it is a good one, "who controls it?".
people want to know "who has the power of the purse strings?
" and quite frankly so do i.. there is someone behind the scenes who knows so much that the wtbts could never fire him or her.

What I don't understand is how they can live like they do and feel ok about it. They are living on the donated money of people living extremely poor lives without higher education. But maybe they think that it is a blessing from Jehovah? Who knows how they sleep at night.
Like all successful scammers, they sleep in very comfortable beds.

Here is an experience of a man becoming a jw in order to marry the so-called love of his life...I'll let his story speak for itself:
http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/experiences/222940/1/My-Experience
I also got baptized in order to marry a jw man who seemed so sweet and caring. We weren't married a month before he started hitting me. Eventually this evolved into kicking, strangulation, him driving into oncoming traffic...anything to terrorize me. As a jw woman or child, you are strongly discouraged from involving the police in cases of domestic violence and even child molestatiom...I can cite cases to you if you can't find them with Google. But my jw husband was so crazy that his doctors had him forcibly committed to mental wards twice throughout our six and a half year marriage. Despite the rulings of doctors and judges that he was a real threat to my life, the elders insisted I either stay in the marriage or stalk him long enough to determine whether he would commit adultery or murder. You see, there is no remarriage in the Watchtower cult unless adultery is proven; therefore giving the abuser continued control over his victim. I made a false confesson of adultery, divorced him and was disfellowshipped for my trouble. As a result, with the exception of a few requests for family medcal history, I've been shunned by my jw mom for almost 25 years. My brother shunned me for 18 years, but we reaquainted after he too left the cult.
Is this really the type of thing in which you want to be involved? Run, don't walk, my dear. If he wants out of the cult, he needs to take those steps himself. If he does leave, require him to get specialized therapy. Even then, if I were you, I'd also have him sign a pre-nup regarding finances and custody of any future children. Instead of thinking about what you would have to do to be with him, start thinking about the things he should be doing to be with you.

http://www.jwbrothers.org - Who is behind this site
by donny ini checked out http://www.jwbrothers.org this morning and i went to the video section and looked at the video entitled "garbage island".
while the video points out the issue of plastic garbage in the ocean, i was shocked at all of all the "fucks" and "shits" used throughout the piece.
are jw's behind this site?

"True religion in no way practices secretiveness. Worshipers of the true God have been instructed not to hide their identity or to obscure their purpose as Jehovah's Witnesses" (Watchtower, 6/1/97, p. 6. par. 2).
Oh, this quote is rich, considering the authors of borg literature are anonymous and very little background information is known about the governing body!

I see it's been 24 hours since your first and only post...hopefully that's good news, and you two are reconciling. Whether or not that is the case, please get an attorney asap. He or she will help you consider your options about staying in the marriage or divorce by educating you on child custody and support. The sooner you get on this, the more chance you have of gaining joint custody. Doing so is vital for the future of your children regarding the blood issue, education, and extra curricular activities.

Never having received a birthday greeting from your parents.
by Holey_Cheeses*King_of_the juice. inmy wife turned fifty five the other day and i pen this from her perspective.. "happy birthday".
a harmless, yet meaningful expression of recognition from one's parents that they appreciate having brought you into the world.
for many it is a special day to be remembered, and to acknowledge that you are remembered.. in all her years of life my wife has never been given a birthday greeting from her parents.

I feel like I missed a lot of things growing up JW, but all the expected/mandatory gift recieving/giving I could happily do without.
Birthdays are so much more than that! Most important is that a person is told how special it is that he or she is on this planet. And particularly for small children, celebrating other people's birthdays teaches them that everyone deserves a special day. Example: I have two granddaughters that are about four months apart in age. When the older one turned three last week, the slightly younger girl was a little upset that there were no gifts for her. But we explained that she would have her own gifts at her birthday party, and she was fine. Al four of the grandkids are pretty good about sharing their books, games, movies and toys, but they're very aware of what belongs to whom, because most of the hings they have are from Santa or their birthdays.
