Barbara Anderson's website watchtowerdocuments has court records to sex abuse lawsuits against the Watchtower dating back to 1964, I believe. And I'm pretty sure she has documented recent cases as well.

Talked to an elder
by Nika Bee ini am at home now, my family knows that i am out and it's somewhat ok.. during the time i spent here, i had the interesting pleasure of talking to an elder who i've known since childhood.
just for the background, he always regretted not going to university and there where also issues with military service.
but this discussion was kind of, well, interesting.

He said, if he had a case of child abuse in the congregation, which he thankfully hadn't at the moment (from which I concluded that there must have been something in the past, either before I was born, or something that was kept secret) the brother in question would never get any privileges.
A sex offender not having congregational privieges will NOT stop him from re-offending in or out of the congregation.
Then he said something that made me speechles: in any case, if there is a case of abuse/rape there is always some joint guilt at the victim or the parent (they just haven't protected thair children well enough).
Isn't that standard Watchtower thinking? Don't do anything that would warn the congregation or community at large about sex offenders in their midst, and then blame victims and their parents when abuse occurs.

holding off on my baptism???
by madcow78596 inso i've been studying with jws since april 2011.
1 year later i decide to become an unbaptized publisher and take steps toward dedicating myself to jehovah.
i'm a single working mother of 2 with what i will call a very "colored" past.

Welcome to JWN! Just in case you're not aware, the vast majority of people have a colorful past. Please don't allow yours to guilt you into pledging your allegience to a high control group! Your open mindedness with your kids will NOT fly with the Watchtower. Take some time to research the organization, and analyze what it is about your colorful past that urged you to study with the jws in the first place.
Your reservations about being baptized are correct. It's very hypocritical for your study conductor's husband to object to you wearing the very same clothes that his wife and daughter wore. Maybe he's just a dirty minded fool who looks at you through a different lense than he sees them.

newbie here - i need advice
by kassad84 inhello, i've been lurking in this forums for a while but its only now that i've created an account.
i'm an inactive jw, been in and out sporidically these past few years, but its only these recent months after reading crisis of conscience and christian freedom that i think i will never go back there again.. the reason i've been inactive primarily is because i have issues regarding masturbation and porn.
my conscience cannot allow to continue preaching while i continously being overcome by these habits myself.

First, welcome to JWN! Second, it wasn't until after he started to control the sex lives of his cult members that Charles Manson was able to get them to kill for him. Think about that concept while comparing it to the Watchtower. Third, it looks like Giordano has given you a good start, but please study the science of sex. Although there is a wide sexual spectrum among all creatures, masturbation is a common practice. Fourth, determine whether or not you are really addicted to porn. While addiction is a complex subject, generally a practice is not an addiction unless it disrupts your daily life. Study up on addiction, and/or see a therapist to see if it's a big a problem as you think it is.
The world is your oyster. You are free to determine what your actions will be and how you live your life. It can be scary, but it's part of growing up and reaching emotional maturity.

My birthday
by Chariklo intoday i am celebrating my first birthday after dutifully refusing to observe birthdays, thanks to the jehovah's witnesses.
not for as many years compared with most of you, but enough, and worst of all was that i dutifully refused even to celebrate my grandchildren's birthdays.
that hurt me far more than them.

Sadly this hit the boys very badly. To be abandoned by their mother!!!
I'm sorry if this sounds cruel, but your boys being away from their mother's unneccessary Watchtower restrictions will eventually do them a world of good. It will give them time to formulate their own world views, and eventually they'll know how to establish a relationship with proper boundaries with her.

Was she leaving a jw husband at the same time she was leaving the Watchtower? If so, two birds, one stone.

My stepson got me hooked on the Walking Dead. It's weird that I never liked Science Fiction/Horror until middle age. I still have to turn my head for gross scenes though.
