Special worldwide Meeting: Anyone know about it?

my sister just informed me that my other sister who is an active jw, said all those who are unbaptized publishers and active baptized witnesses have been invited to attend a special meeting some time this month (september 2001).

lots of interesting theories about what it might be about.

Tonight I saw my Mom's card on her fridge, it has a place for your name and congregation name. You have to hand it in when you get there.

My mom is under the impression that this was only a meeting that would go on in the US, can you confirm that it's going to be world wide? I've only heard that its going to be in four locations in the US. I only know personally of one specifically...

I guess that 'active' publishers can get cards, that one elder per hall was designated to give them out. So unbaptized people can go so long as they're 'regular' in service.

On the top of the card it said something like: "Supplemental meeting to the Annual Meeting, October 7th 2001"

I don't remember the rest...

IT'S [going to be] A GIRL!

the ultrasound results are in: foxy and i are going to be having a baby girl, sometime around the end of january!

i'm just realizing, though, that i know nothing about girls, having grown up with three brothers.

"Special" meeting in October?

question.

my mother told my husband that there is to be a 'special meeting' in october at the local sports arena (same place as dc's are held here) and that "only publishers are allowed to attend" that they will get "special cards" for admission from their local congregation and have to hand them in to get into the building.

i have no idea if this has anything to do with the "annual meeting" they always have (isn't that generally in october?

I don't know how 'historic' this thing is gonna be...but we'll see! I casually asked my sister about it today and her reply was that it was no big deal...simply a hook up to listen to the Annual meeting. Her husband is an elder and is supposed to be setting up the sound for the event.

If you want to know the location they'll be going to, mail me and I'll tell you privately. She might not even make it there herself, however. She's under the impression that it's so minor that she planned a vacation during that week!

We'll see what happens. I have to laugh to think that my mother could be a security breach *LOL* Any info on what it's really about? e mail me if you can't post it!

I had a very turbulant relationship with my father up until three years ago. That is why I was so upset at the thought of losing him now, when we seemed to be getting it together.

I am grateful that I have good things to remember. I have many dear friends who, like you, had no reason to love their fathers. And damn good reasons not to.

I post my story not to get attention or for 'support'. I post it because how the blood issue factors in later on. How a parallel emergency in my husband's family at the same time also involved blood, and how the two families handled the situations. That's why I posted the link instead of the story here. That way if it doesn't interest someone, they can choose not to go to the link.

I hope the info might cause a lurker or two to think hard about leaving their medical decisions up to their relatives.

Sorry you had it rough. We all have problems and handle them the best that we can.

Oh, I'm so sorry. I know that you know exactly how I felt when I got to the hospital. I won't make you wait to tell you that my story does indeed have a happier ending than yours did, we were so incredibly fortunate.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

My dad is doing well now physically. Mentally is another thing. He is depressed because he is not able to do things the way he used to. He is facing shutting down his business, which he has had for 40 years. I am so grateful that he's alive, but don't know what to do for him to help him through this time of transition. Right now he looks so sad.

He doesn't remember most of what happened at the hospital. It's just as well. But those of us who were there will always bear some scars from this.

12 days into my Dad's ICU stay, my husband's mother nearly died. We had to go from one ICU in the middle of the night, to the airport, to another ICU in a different state. Total nightmare. We are lucky in that she survived as well, but she required massive amounts of blood. If she and my father had their conditions reversed, things would be totally different right now.

Thank you for sharing your experience with me, I just wish that I could give you a big hug and a cup of tea. Then I would ask you tell me about your Dad. It's apparant that you loved him very, very much. Again I am just so sorry that his life ended so tragically, and suddenly.

elderly people, not married, living together?

i would like some opinions on a situation that seems to be arising in my family.. since my mother is now a widow, and her income will be much less, she may not be able to afford to stay where she is, even with the financial assistance she gets from the family.

so we have talked about her moving in with us.

the problem is, my father, her ex husband lives with us too.

I'm so awful for saying what I did but they don't know that I have watched Grandma make you miserable for as long as I can remember. I'd hate to see her have such easy access to you.

Princess, I don't think you're awful at all for saying that. I understand what you're saying. I felt the same way about my father going home to my mother after he stayed with us for a month post-hospital. And the sad part is it has had a bad effect on his emotions, being home with her. It's breaking my heart.

Mulan, I know we've compared Mommie Dearest notes before: and I have to hope that things stay the way they are and that another burden isn't added to you. From the sounds of it your Dad is much like mine in that he is much easier to care for, and love, than my mother.

If she does need to live with someone...as Princess suggested, maybe there is someone in her congregation who would want a roommate. I can't imagine the stress that living with her would cause you.

Disfellowshipping- Pros and Cons

hello friends,.

since i have been a member of this forum since july, i have seen alot of posts by df'd or posts about disfellowshipping.

i just thought i would add my thoughts on the matter, for whatever it is worth.

In my case, the good thing that Disfellowshipping did for me was that I still held some small belief that the organization really was God's channel when I was ousted. Getting out and being cut off from the fanatacism of my JW family was the catalyst to finally seeing the truth about it.

They think that shunning me is the loving way to encourage me to come back: they don't realize that because of their behaviour, I will never go back. I don't ever want to be like them. I don't want my child to turn out like them either, and so far, she seems to see very clearly that Mommy isn't as evil as "they" make her out to be.

The story of events leading to my df'ing is on my website. Read if you like and you can decide for yourself if I "deserved" to be disfellowshipped. To me, it's a moot point. I wanted to get on with my life, and that was the cost of my freedom. Very high, but very worth it.

The only thing I do regret is the effect it has had on my daughter's life. You can read how its effected her, and know that she doesn't deserve it.

To answer larc's question, I come here to enjoy the writing talent of my friends. To offer a kind word now and then. To read others offering kind words, because it helps restore my faith in the goodness of people.

I also really feel for the lurkers. I always think of them when I post. I write everything as if my JW relatives might be reading it. My family is so huge, and spread out over the US that someone in my family probably is.

I get a lot of mail from lurkers. I'm happy every time one of them steps from the shadows and starts to post, because it takes such a burden off of their shoulders. They really know and feel that they're not alone once they start to share their experiences.

Keep coming out, guys. It's not as scary as you think.

how do i get a divorce when no one has.......

commited adultery my wife and i are headed in that direction what should i tell the brothers?

we are doing so because she just doesnt trust me anymore ?

Hi Jazz,

Well, this really is an ugly situation. I know, I've lived it.

Even though I had many doubts about the faithfulness of my husband, I couldn't prove anything. To top it off he made it clear to me that he "expected" to be free to remarry in the Kingdom Hall. With his temper, I was not going to test him as to what "or else" meant.

So I chose to get on with my life. For me, that meant that after my divorce was final (when I was legally, if not "scripturally" free) I decided not to delay a physical relationship with the man who would become my second husband. I had no interest in staying in the organization, so I have not regretted that decision one moment.

The sad truth is that you can not get a divorce, stay in the organization, and remarry and stay in good standing, unless your wife commits adultery and confesses. Which doesn't sound likely.

So your choices would seem (on the surface, I don't know your details) to be:

1. Stay married.

2. Get divorced and stay celibate, keeping your good standing in the org.

3. Get divorced, get on with your life, and not care anymore what the organization thinks of you.

I know that if you have family in (as I do) that the choice to leave the organization is agonizing. There are major consequences.

These are hard choices that only you can make, and you shouldn't rush them. I don't advocate anyone going out and finding a partner just to 'get it over with'. so to speak. If my situation hadn't been what it was, I would have stayed single. I know he would have cracked sooner or later. I just chose not to play that game.
