the current doctrine is that they arent sure whether ppl of the 144000 will on earth while armageddon. it may be or may not.
most of the doctrines had changed since that many disappointments of the last century that i think they are changing it in that way that the final product will be nearly timeless. no dates, no countdowns, just a static "urgent" attitude which gives you the impression that armageddon is tomorrow all the time.
over the time even 1914 will die. 100%

144,000
by TIMBOB inthis is not so much a question as it is to make sure that i am thinking correctly.
the witnesses believe that 144,000 would rule as kings and priests in heaven and the end would not come until all of the 144,000 were in heaven, correct?
so, if this were the case and the witnesses kept a census of how many partook each year and are still doing that today, that means that back in the early 1900s they must of known that all 144,000 were not yet in heaven.

Why the excuse, "we are theocratic"?
by edmond dantes inthe wts claim to be theocratic when really they are a dictatorship .when ever did they consult the rank and file and why do so many followers accept blindly their pronouncements.maybe it's because of fear or perhaps just plain ignorance.why can't the g.body write to every jw and ask their opinions about forth coming changes to the washtower editions.they could ask individual members by means of a questionaire ; things like, how satisfied are you with the society?
tick one box ",very satisfied", "not very satisfied"," who gives a monkeys".
"always" or "almost always" or " are you peeing down my back or is it raining".another question; the statement millions now living will never die , only tick one box remember , "was true at the time", or" was never true" or "still true today" or " i believe whatever , do i look bothered".. last question ; because we are tax exempt and a charity case what is the the most humanitarian act do you think we have carried out?

Let the stones cry out!
by WTWizard inhow often have you heard the phrase "if we don't preach, the stones would cry out"?
this is in regard to the ministry.. what i cannot figure out is (1) this is so urgent that we have to be out 18+ hours a day doing it, (2) we have to endure all sorts of conditions to accomplish our ministry, and (3) we are supposed to get it perfect so people can be drawn in.
so, why don't the stones get to help us out?

what about a worldwide "silence day" to test it out? :D
just a whole day noone of any religion preaches anything!
yay, the stones would cry out.
and given that the JWs are the only true religion... cried the stones the whole time before? no, they dont. why not?
i think it does make even more sense when jesus was talking about "the stones", yes the rolling ones. isnt that a great fulfilled prophecy? and it proves that noone actually preaches the truth except the stones lol.
oh my god, what crazy stuff :D -

How many happy JW marriages do you know of?
by Bonnie_Clyde injust reading frequent flyer miles on the subject of feeling guilty for having a happy marriage with a non-jw.. in our congregation which i haven't attended for about a year, i can only think of two or three who seem to be happy.
of course, i don't know what happens behind closed doors, but i know of several who admit they are unhappy.
i wrote out a long list of couples who have divorced over the last 20 years--including three elders (one is on his second divorce).

thats so true.
but you know what my jw-mind tells me about it?
"of course jws are as weak as other ppl, but we keep the congregation clean as best as possible and we know what is wrong and right. everything else is human imperfection and that underlines how important it is to stay in the truth!!!!" -

the unforgivable sind makes sense for me now.
its not meant to be a never ever unforgivable sin even if you crawl in your own slobber begging for forgiveness.
its only unforgivable as long as you dont repent. its just so easy. willfully unrepentant sins are the unforgivable sin, humans can turn this into a forgivable sin as long as they want.
thats the only view that makes sense.
sorry for being too slow to understand that lol :) in my JW life i always wondered about that. -

excellent thread.
in my surroundings almost NOONE noticed the change. for the most of them the teaching didnt change - it was always this way. if it all its only better explained now. LOL :-D
are apostates the only ones who actually CARE for the teachings? -

If you think you've seen a ghost.....................
by Warlock insince i'm taking a beating somewhere else, i might as well take one here.. if you google "ghosts" you will get over 25 million results.
actually 25,200,000. now i know some are repeats or whatever.. in checking just a few sites, some sell books, some have only experiences, some have both.
one site i went to about 6 months ago had over 500 experiences.

i need to stress my question again... its a big topic for me, sorry :/
"what does it mean, that studying with JWs and stuff can ghosts scare away? is it god/angels who protect the jws?"
the story of freedom frog makes me wonder...
do you think that this could happen in a kingdom hall also? did anything supernatural happen in a kingdom hall at all? what does it mean if not?
if ghosts are spirits of dead humans i believe the kingdom halls where all haunted :) too many lifes thrown away in that halls lol.
if they are fallen angels aka demons... why would they stay away from it? gods protection? -

What Maintains the Universe?
by metatron indoes it ever seem weird that evolutionists and creationists endlessly debate about events vastly distant in the past - without discussing what.
maintains the universe now?
clearly, electrons and protons have a certain mass, light has a particular speed and so on - why should any of.
-
Marcel
very good questions.
but theres one problem about it.
for me it implies a lil' bit that there NEED to be an intelligence controlling it. does it? thats the question i think.
does it require an intelligence to maintain the universe?
if not you have to accept that some weired force is just "there". like the laws of physics.
if yes you have to accept that there is some weired entity which is intelligent and is just "there".

Wedding Anniversaries vs. Birthdays
by PopeOfEruke injw's often have big parties or "gatherings" to celebrate wedding anniversaries, esp.
for the big milestones (20th, 50th anniversary etc).. the process of these parties almost exactly mimic a typical birthday celebration: the couple of honour sit up the front, various people give speeches, show "honour" to the happy couple, there is a meal and drinks, usually an anniversary cake.. exactly the same as a birthday party.. so why is it ok to celebrate an anniversary of a wedding but not the annoversary of a birth??
when it's usually the "wedding" which sooner or later results in a birth??
-
Marcel
its just the same and both anniversarys have pagan origins. while birthdays are wrong even without idolatry and pagan practices seem wedding anniversarys be ok even WITH idolatry and pagan practices.
its just not right, but its hard to step off of it because everyone would laugh about it.
the same with the blood doctrine (but worse). -

honestly, this stuff makes me going back to the JWs...
me, myself and i never experienced something that couldnt be explained. okay, there were some stuff when i was a child, but i believe i just dont remember very well.
these are the possibilities:
- ghosts experiences are for real (goto 1.)
- ghosts experiences aren not for real (goto 2.)
1.)
- the bible is right about ghosts and they are demons and god exists (goto 3.)
- the bible is not right and 'ghosts' may be something else (goto 4.)
2.)
- ghosts dont exist (end of story)
- ghosts do exist even though they dont show themselves (goto 1.)
3.)
- the JWs have the right religion (end of story)
- the JWs dont have the right religion (end of story)
4.)
- ghosts are dead humans (end of story)
- ghosts are extraterrestrials, shadows from other dimensions, visitors from the future, whatever... (end of story)
what does it mean, that studying with JWs and stuff can ghosts scare away? is it god/angels who protect the jws? or are the ghosts happy that the JW is in a demonic religion now and let the JWs look like an "angel of light"?
why did the science never encountered proof for supernatural things but the world is full of unprovable hints they exist?
what is this stuff?
if i ever encounter something cleary supernatural i likely will go back to the JWs. i dont know whether it is the right decision, but its the only thing i could imagine to do in that case.
you know what's funny? in EVERY jw forum i asked a question about demons/ghosts a HUGE crowd responded with a big believe in demons because many many ppl experienced it first hand and SWEAR that demons are for real. but many of them still think the JWs are wrong. why is that?
