  JW's Raised In - Did you get bullied during you Grade School Years?

  due to the way i was raised a jw i constantly felt guilt for trying to act like the other guys and it made me stand out even worse.

  to this day, due to this, i nowdays become somewhat physically ill whenever i hear a brother give a talk where he says (many here have heard it in different forms) "if jehovah was looking at you youths in the congregation during school could he tell the difference between you and a worldy person.

  " myself and most of the other jw guys during middle school and high school did not have the confidence or the "rough and ready to fight" type of body language so we tended to get picked on.

  Welcome bborad to JWD!

  No I didn't get bullied because even from kindergarten I never admitted that I was a JW. Even though the kids in school knew I was, I would always say "may parents are but I'm not". And I never acted like a JW so school was good for me and I had lots of friends. My parents never knew about my school friends because I knew I'd get the crap beat out of me for having non-JW friends. When I got older I would always get in trouble for not coming straight home or breaking curfew or not being where I said I was gonna be, damn I wish we had cell phones in the 70's would have saved me a lot of beatings.

  Having those non-JW friendships was the best thing I did!

  Anyone else have Jekyll/Hyde parents?

  anybody else have a parent or parents that acted loving and happy at the kh, but turned into angry, abusive weirdos at home?.

  my stepdad was like this.

  it was so strange to see him shaking hands and smiling, laughing even, at the kh.

  issues go far beyond the cult.

  Brent, I agree with you. Both my parents I believe had issues and I'm not sure they should have even had children. But I also think the cult enhanced their already screwed up little brains! Unfortunately 7 children suffered because of it. Maybe if the JW's were really who they pretend to be, it would have balanced out my parents already wacko issues. But as we all know - they are full of it and do nothing to protect children, or show love to anyone. Abusive parents can very effectively hide behind the JW rules.

  mine was pretty retarded, well they had every reason to df me, but the whole process was asinine.

  Yeah, the questions when I got knocked up: Who undressed who? Oral? if yes was it given or received? anal? Did you experiement with positions? The most riduculous of all was did you enjoy it? and will you do it again? In my mind I was saying hell yeah I enjoyed it and I did it several more times that why my A$$ is knocked up now!!

  Being raised as a JW was screwed up, but then I grew up left it all behind and built a life for myself. So no, I'm not screwed up as an adult or since I've left, because of the JW's.

  I think for the most part if you get out young, and by "get out" I mean leave it and all the BS behind and that includes people who want to "save you" by punishing you (shunning), if you just get away from it you are better off. I think it's harder on those who for whatever reason can't break the ties and as we all know it's hard to do especially if you have no friends or family out side that will "have your back". And no experience in dealing with the real world because you have been sheltered your entire life is definately gonna hold you back.

  So if I'm screwed up now it's because I've allowed it to happen not because of the JW's. I think I turned out pretty damn good in spite of how or rather what religion I was raised in.

  Edited: my hubby and kids think I'm a little crazy but I think that's just genetic and of course menopause can make you nutz!

  Not df'd or da'd - I simply stopped going at age 18. No drama, no meetings as far as I was (am) concerned they hold no authority over me.

  so... my condo complex is getting some badly needed new lighting.

  finally, the tall new lights are installed and they are removing the much shorter older lights.

  they left them laid on the ground for a few hours while they dug up the old bases.

  when i used to chat on yahoo if someone was annoying or harassing there was an option to ignore that person.

  you could still see that the person was in the room but you didn't have to read anything they said.

  every once in a while i wish that option was here too.. josie.

  How powerful were our mothers as JWs?

  newboy started a wonderful topic about jw fathers, but thinking back my mother had more power.

  her entire family was jw's and had amazng influence through the years, including over my elder father.. her own mother was a convert during rutherford's early years out of the 7th day adventist religion.

  my mom and her brothers and sisters were some of the ones that wore the plackards that religion was a snare and a racket.

  My parents were 1st gen JW's. We didn't have alot of pull in the borg, but my mom was less than a loving supportive wife. I don't even think they like each other, but they are still together. She was very bossy and played the favorite's gave with her children ( I'm not a fav).

  Still a firm, stern JW but only by the book when it's convienent to her.
