The Future of the Watchtower Society and the Internet

it seems that the watchtower society was very ill prepared for the advent of the internet.

perhaps, some of the governing body thought the end would come before it became a big problem.

now it is a big problem and is only going to get worse.

I think you are right on with your assessment of the Internet's impact on the Borg. But, I think you may be a little too generous in how long it is going to take for the trickle of anti-JW info, that witnesses are acquiring from the internet, to turn into a flood. Kids at school are increasingly internet saavy and often use the internet to research things for school.

I believe that this is one reason the Borg has come down hard on higer education ban. The internet is such an integral part of university life that anyone who goes to college will inevitably be exposed to the real truth about the Dubs. The Borg is nothing more than a crackpot, adventist, millenialist, pie-in-the-sky church and they know that the internet will completely blow their cover.

Even if the Borg is able to maintain the status quo with current members (which is highly doubtful--see "V's" Watchtower Comments that cites the statistic of 61% of recent converts leaving the Borg), they will be unable to attract significant numbers of new converts if the anti-JW internet sites remain so prevalent (and there is every reason to believe they will) when search engines bring them up. Additionally, as previously mentioned, the effect of the internet on young ones,in the Borg is bound to be devastating.

My Dad was an US Navy veteran and he had an expression that perfectly describes the position the Borg is in ....whatever their response it is going to be like "shoveling shit against the tide".... they are not going to be just done, they are going to be well done by the internet.

i've been out for 10 1/2 years.. in the early days, after my departure, i was just glad to be out and going back to school.

i felt sorry for those who were still in living a life of delusion and failed/false dreams....and, in fact, i still do feel sorry for the r&f dubbies.

i used to even cut the borg's leadership some slack, thinking to myself that they were just caught up in their own delusions.. but, the longer i've been on jwd the madder i get at the borg leadership's outright deception, lies, coverups, and self-aggrandizing behavior.

But, the longer I've been on JWD the madder I get at the Borg leadership's outright deception, lies, coverups, and self-aggrandizing behavior. It is outrageous...especially, the pedophile issues that have been swept under the rug. When all of the news about the pedophile incidents started breaking, it brought back to mind an experience that a fellow elder shared with me while I was still in. His son had been sexually abused multiple times by a very promient elder in the district and nothing was ever done about it. As far as I know, the abuser is still a member in good standing. When I asked the elder, why he never did anything about it, he said he thought it was best to "leave it in Jehovah's hands." Can you imagine sacrificing the well being of your own child for that kind of bullshit???

The Borg absolutely reeks of rotten, putrid, filth that even the so-called "world" would find repulsive. All I can say is, BASTARDS, BASTARDS, LYING BASTARDS!!!!!

WTF.... JW Official Website...1914 glossed over...GT in 1975 NOTHING!!!!!!!

i nosed around on the jw official website for over an hour just to see how they were handling some of the dates that are/were central to their understanding of bible chronology.. there was absolutely no significant connection made between 1914 and our current time period being the purported last days.. and, even if they did shoot themselves in foot with the 1975 debacle, presumably the 6,000 year anniversary of adam's creation, which would have been marked in 1975, would still be a significant date in the witness timeline that would help to bracket the last days.. the jw website's internal search mechanism brought up articles mentioning 1975 only in the context of general interest articles about animals, current events, and other "fluff" articles.. the lying bastards have completely buried anything and everything that would incur culpability.. without 1914 and the generation that "would not pass away," they are citing evidence for the last days that is so flimsy, i don't see how they can sustain any significant growth or keep young ones from bolting once they are old enough.

their "solid" evidence is the same old recycled crap about wars, earthquakes, famines, selfish people....yatta, yatta, yatta... that could apply to any time in history.. i hope we are seeing the beginning of the end for the borg.

Prominet elder goes against the society's advice on education!!!

i just wat to inform you that i have from absolutely trustworthy sources that rolf furuli (one of the absolutely best known and most recpected elders in norway, and altso a scolar known as a hard core 607-apologist among opposers) did have a local needs speech last week (or maybe the week before) where he went directly against the watchtower anti college education pollicy and warmly recomended all the young ones in the congregation to go on and get them self educated.. i wonder for how long ha can keep his position??

if he gets the boot wee'll se a theocratic earthquake here in norway..

The Borg's opposition to higher education in the 20th Century is no different than the Catholic church's war on knowledge during the dark ages and the early years of the renaissance.

The Borg absolutely fears large numbers of educated minds among the R & F, because they know how vulnerable their goofy doctrines and flawed arguments are to being critically analyzed. If there is one single theme that is stressed in all University education curricula, whether it is science courses or liberal arts programs, it is the importance of learning to think critically.

The bottom line is that, if some set of beliefs (whether it is some scientific theory or an understanding of some set of facts) is the "truth" it should withstand the scrutiny of critical analysis. However the Borg leadership know that critical analysis and the application of Occam's razor to their doctrines would fatally shred the Borg's convoluted and contorted interpretation of world events and purported Bible chronology in our times.

Over the course of nearly 40 years of involvement with the Borg, I saw many really intelligent individuals leave the Borg, and I believe that pattern is accelerating. The Borg is sowing the seeds of their own demise by opposing higher education; they are going to end up as organization of dim-witted, poor, unmotivated, pathetic losers, who will have few resources to finance the future needs of the Borg. The Borg is well on the way. There was a time when they paid lip service to education by encouraging publishers to do independent research in secular publications, but that disappeared long ago.

The crux of their teachings, 1914, is an increasingly tenuous foundation for this time being the last days. They can't decide who the memorial partakers should be. Increasingly, the Borg stands for absolutely nothing.

Whose religion is WORSE than JW's?

thought it might be interesting to put a perspective on things.

while many here have had terrible experiences at the hands of jw's and the wtbts, are there religions that you know of which are any worse?

for example, jw's might disfellowship a member who became known as a thief, but they don't chop off your hand.

It is all about control. All religions will exercise the maximum degree of control they can get away with.

They all push and test the limits of control. They will push the limits as far as their adherents will let them.

The Dubs are particularly bad because they so closely identify with the god of the Hebrew Scriptures, who demanded stoning for a dissenting opinion... but tolerated incest, who approved only the worship of his adherents... and endorsed killing innocent women and children, who tolerated adultery by a King... and the murder of the innocent mate... for some divine purpose...

Give me an F***ing break....the Bible condemns itself and the 2 major religions it has produced. The Dubs deny being fundamentalist Christians...but they are dyed in the wool fundamentalists.

They are all BAD, BAD, BAD!!!!!!

this is especially true for periods in life humans have often devoted themselves to!.

it is lovely to see and hear ones with natural experiences and happiness to relate!.

Just to clarify....there are great memories from all the time periods in my life, including the time during which I was a Dub.

The thing is that the great memories I have of friends and fun, learning new things, seeing new places, and growing as a human being were things that had absolutely no connection to being a Dub. The good memories I have would have happened whether I was a Dub or not.

In fact, I know I would have had an even richer set of memories if I hadn't been a Dub. I gave up so many opportunitities that can never be recaptured....like sailing around the world. I worked in the yachting industry when I was young and had many invitations to join the crews on yachts that were sailing around the world. But, no that would be selfish and my spirituality would suffer.....blah, blah, blah......and on and on and on.....

There is a lot more I could drone on about, but you get the picture.

I know what you mean about the void. You need to build new memories after you're out so that they will fill your mind and displace the void.

I've gotta agree that any of the good times are far overshadowed by the waste of time and energy that whole experience proved to be.

Not to mention, the damaged family relationships because of the Dub stance on worldly holidays.

Or, the waste of years not having gone to college and developing the full intellectual potential.

Are you kidding? Nostalgia for what? Being controlled, extorted, enslaved to a lie, and abused...I don't think so!!!

With all due respect, if you do have some nostalgic feelings, I am glad for you. But, not here!!!

Hey there NMG,

I understand how you feel, but in IMHO you need to let go of a little more guilt.

WE are the ones helping one another to heal from the wounds inflicted by the true TROUBLE MAKERS. It is NOT the other way around.

It is interesting that the words apostles and apostate share the same root word. It is all about perspective. Apostles are sent away (presumably by divine mandate) and apostates stand away (presumably because they scorn the group from which they departed).

In any event, we all had no choice but to stand away as apostates from an abusive, cruel, greedy, dishonest organization. That's why I really like the expression I discovered on this site...the "Borg." It's perfect, if you are familiar with the Star Trek episodes that feature the Borg. "Resistance to the collective is futile...you will be assimilated..."

Anyway, hang in there. Life gets better and better as you spend more time away from that wasteland. By the way, how long have you been out?
