I am straight, but one of the things leaving the BORG has done for me is to make me much more tolerant of gays, lesbians, and people who live alternative lifestyles. When I was taking Constitutional Law in law school a couple of years ago we read and analyzed some heartbreaking cases involving gay and lesbian partners who were legally prevented from making important decisions on behalf of their partners. Also, some cases where the state of law could fairly be characterized as persecution of their lifestyles.

I think that they are shoveling the proverbial shit against the tide. I honestly don't think the BORG is going to stop the hemmoraging. The news report a couple of months ago that the Dubs have the lowest retention rate of any U.S. religion, strongly suggests that they know what they're up against.

If Noah was a mythical figure and the global flood a fable, the warnings of Peter and Jesus for those living in the last days would be meaningless. Instead of serving as a warning such ideas would befuddle a person's spriritual senses.....

No shit Sherlock....out of their own mouths...circular reasoning through and through the article....

I will guarantee you that the geologic "proof" they cite is taken completely out of context. The geologic record disproves rather than proves the Deluge fable.

....and while I am venting it is the subjunctive mood so it should be, "If Noah were....."

Oh they soooooooooooooooo piss me off.

The Mighty Led Zeppelin Soars Again !!

i know brent r. had a thread on this yesterday or day before , but in honor of my personal all-time favorite group, i had to write a few things here !

if some of you have seen the u-tube of them performing songs with john bonham's son jason on drums , it was an incredible performance !

watching their expertise on " stairway to heaven " and " kashmir " was like being back in high school again, like they never went away !

Hey Flipper -- how's it going buddy?

I love Stairway to Heaven, but the song that really grabs me is "When the Levee Breaks." I don't even think they wrote it, but man what a raw song. The other songs that really grab me are "Heartbreaker" and "Hey, hey, What Can I Do?"

If you get a chance to listen to it, Terry Gross did an interview with Plant a few years ago and I know that it is archived on NPR's website. You will find it interesting.

with all the talk of puking on the site lately, i wonder if many of us don't have spiritual eating disorders.... after all, many posters say things like "i'm puking in my mouth" while reading a pro-jw poster.. perhaps some have to really spiritually puke after attending a jw meeting to get the wt influence out.. so are you a spiritual bulimic?

If The Gov't In Myanmar Refuses Relief Assistance Should We Invade To Help?

personally, i think it's not our job to make sure aid is provided for humanitarian needs.

if the government refuses the help, why should we force aid?

It scares me to think if we were in their shoes here and the government blocked help!

Remember Katrina??? Acts of omission are just as serious as affirmative actions. There was a time in this country that the federal government would have been mobilizing every possible resource help Americans in those straits.

Those days are gone and it scares me to think about the next super hurricaine, here. It is going to happen again here--just wait and see.

As for Myanmar, as sad as it is, I agree that the U.S. cannot be the guardians and protectors for the whole world.

first of all i do not want to turn this into an american bashing thread, that is not my intention at all.. i would like to hear americans opinions as to what my thirteen year old son asked me tonight.. on the way back from swimming tonight my two sons (13 and 11) and myself started talking about wars.

my 11 year old was the first to bring it up talking about wwi & ww2.

we had an interesting conversation about it, then the subject got onto nuclear bombs.

The points you raise are valid and on the minds of many (not enough) thinking Americans. America's day in the sun has long passed.

The United States had a great opportunity, in the years after WWII, to be the great moral leader for the world. Instead, our government supported despotic, totalitarian leaders as long as they supported American interests.

I love this country, and I believe the founding fathers were some of the most visionary people in history, but that doesn't change the fact that America lost its moral compass long ago, and this country is in decline morally, technologically, industrially, and in any other way you can suggest.

I've been in school for the last 9 years and there is a list of books as long as my arm that I want to read. One of them is "Sorrows of Empire," by Chalmers Johnson, that addresses these very issues. I have listened to him talk and read excerpts from the book -- check it out -- I think you'll find it riveting.
