Isn't the real question whether you still love her? Is it possible to put all of the religious stuff aside and have a normal relationship???

What is your strangest "supernatural" JW story?
by donny ini had just became a witness and a guy i worked with, who was also a jw, told me a story that actually made me laugh and i think it upset him a bit.
the storys were almost always in the third person.
it went as follows.. this brothers wife and him were sitting at the kingdom hall on the end seats of the row next to the back of the room.

Frantic call from my son!
by Sparkplug inmy son who is very (for lack of a better word) "square" was trying out his new drivers license by running errands for me today.
i about had to die when i got a call from him from the printing shop.
i had asked him to drop some photos off for me and wait to get them picked up.

Hi everyone!
I am back from my cruise, hair all braided and all tanned and relaxed. Thanks for telling me to go. I did have a brilliant time. Only had one discussion with my mum about religion.
I met a cruise boyfriend as well. Sexy man from Chicago -- only 700 miles away from me. :( We clicked right away and went on excusions together. We took my mother and sister along with us in Belize and my mother had to admit that she liked him. By the fourth night I was bunking in his cabin, but despite what my mother thinks, we didn't do much. I just had to get away from my sister's snoring. Anyway, my mother said to my sister, "guess Diana's shacked up with Dave. Doesn't surprise me." Guess she thinks I'm a ho. But I don't care. I had fun. I am young(ish) single and my son is away for the summer so my attitude is I can jolly well do whatever I can. Do long distance things ever really work??
But let me tell you about the conversation we had. Actually, it was my sister. I showed her in my mother's bible the NWT in Revelation 1 where it talks about God and the scripture, I was dead, but now I am living. I got my sister to ask my mom who was talking. She said Jehovah. She read another scripture. Who's talking now? Jehovah. Then the clincher. I said, who's talking there? When did Jehovah die?
She's like, he didn't. It's Jesus. Then I said read it again. And she did. And then there was silence. She put the Bible down and said, I'll have to ask.
I felt bad....

Struggling with the concept of a "God"
by littleblueuk inthis topic, i'm sure, has been discussed many times, but today i am really contemplating the concept of god.. i remember vividly the old testament; the israelites slaughtering everyone in their path, men, women and children at god's direction at jericho, leaving no one alive.
i remember thinking then as a child how cruel that was.
there are many other examples.. then reading the news today i read a section in the world news about india.

I'm with you, Miligal....
How do you balance God's commandment "thou shalt not kill" (unless, of course, I order you to wipe out an entire city.)

Satanus,
I hear your argument and you are right as far as the wars, invasions and the caste systems in place. Still doesn't really tie in with a "loving God" who cares so much for mankind (allegedly.)
Thanks for the book recommendation. I am going on a cruise with my JW mother and just might buy it for that!

This topic, I'm sure, has been discussed many times, but today I am really contemplating the concept of God.
I remember vividly the Old Testament; the Israelites slaughtering everyone in their path, men, women and children at God's direction at Jericho, leaving no one alive. I remember thinking then as a child how cruel that was. There are many other examples.
Then reading the news today I read a section in the world news about India. It featured the food shortage. Something like 75 percent of the children are malnourished. It had a photo of a woman sitting helplessly by her infant's side while the infant was slowing starving to death. Other accounts of parents having to watch their children suffer and die just really breaks my heart...here we are in the US with child obesity rates at record highs and there are millions, if not billions, of people that can't even afford to buy a few cups of flour.
I imagine some will say that it's mankind's doing; corruption and greed that creates this. Yes, perhaps mankind compound it. But my question is WHY would a "loving" God as he so often calls himself in the Bible, allow this kind of suffering on such a monumental scale? What does he think he's accomplishing?
He's often referred to as "our loving father." Would any "loving" parent behave this way? If so, they would be prosecuted for child abuse.
How do you, if you have faith in God, reconcile this contradiction? Is it pure faith? How do you make that leap?
Just wondering...
