I only make that statement, because for many years I served as wt & bookstudy conductor.
During this time, very, very, very few could understand the significance of wt doctrines and even fewer were willing to give it serious thought.
Age has little to do with it.
Many are afraid to allow even the thoughts to develop because of the snowball effect that it may have on their lives.

Honestly, there are so few jws around who even have a clue about the importance of those dates.
They could change it to almost anything and the vast majority would stay around to show loyalty at any cost.
The relatively few who give up will simply be dismissed as bitter apostates, seeking their own selfish desires.
No matter how weak the doctrinal argument or strong & clear the evidence, if a jw ain't ready to leave - they simply ain't goin' nowhere!

Thanks to one and all for the interesting replys. Imho this issue will not make the org. disappear overnight however, it must produce a profound effect with the passing of time.
In the replys I observe three basic schools of thought:
1. No. They will propose no new year as significant as 1914. They will cling to it till the bitter end.
2. Yes. They must do so to retain some shred of credibility and to motivate the members.
3. They will eventually refrain from referring to 1914 and hope that it fades from the collective memory of the members.
Each of the three are in their own way valid but I'm leaning towards #2. I just can't see how they can escape it.

many of us who were once jehovah's witnesses had a measure of happiness in our lives.
for me, i had a hope in the future, i had answers as to why we are all here, i believed in a loving god who looked after me and cared about me, i had answers to all of lifes big questions.. when i found out the truth about the witnesses, i was lost in a great big world and now had no answers other than the fact that what i once believed was "the truth" in actuality wasn't the truth.i now had to start all over in my search for truth.
for me, it wasn't long before i found what i thought was the truth since i always believed in the bible.

we on this forum were all more or less unhappy with the wts for one reason or other and inevitably we left that religion which we consider to be in fact a cult.
we can't understand or imagine how anyone could be happy living in that negative environment yet there seem to be quite a few dubs that are happy and content being jws.
apart from the obvious ones eg those that have some status which gives them a sense of importance why do others feel happy being there?

I would like to elaborate on a point mentioned by my dear Brother Apostate(is that ok bro a?).
Organ transplants: Imagine the following scenario. In the spring of 1979 your lovely pioneer wife is told she requires a liver transplant or will die. Due to her WT-trained conscience she refuses. Tragically, she does indeed die. From 1967 to 1980 receiving an organ transplant was a disfellowshippable offense because the GB(Fred Franz) considered it to be cannibalism. You arrive home one day in 1980 and joyfully note that the latest Watchtower has been delivered. Looking for some much needed encouragement, you peruse the contents. You note that the QFR in the back deals with organ transplants, a subject of great interest to you for obvious reasons. The society(I know we don't call it that anymore) has revealed that to accept or reject a transplant is now a matter of conscience. How would you feel?
