Bush can declare martial law for anything that he alone considers worthy.

The power has been stripped from the American judicial and legislative systems, put into executive offices, and people who are appointed, not elected.

i just watched reign over me.

adam sandler has come a long way as an actor, and i thought he did very well portraying the feelings someone has who keeps the pain of emotional tragedy inside.

i'll never feel ok about all the damage caused by me when i was at my worst.. the movie also made me think about me and my relationships and us as a group of people affected by something so tragic in some cases.

Humans are a band creature. Like fish are a school creature, birds are a flock creature, ants are a hive creature, lions are a pride animal, cows are a herd animal.

We evolved to be involved in an egalitarian band of no more than 150 people. After that, you require heirarchy to reduce chances at chaos, because, with every new individual you add to a group of 99 individuals, you've just added 99 new relationships but only 1 individual, see where I'm going with this. (I should mention that bands were typically only 12-20 humans historically speaking)

Psychologists have determined that 150 is the absolute limit of people that we consider "people". For instance, the garbageman (unless you know him personally) is not viewed by you as a real person, but rather "make trash go away". Our band minds cannot comprehend 6.5 billion other people. You find in sociology, once this critical number of about 150 is passed (beginning with civilisation), you get chiefs and other such heirarchical emblems.

Today, as always, government is about maintaining the status quo, namely, keeping those above on the heirarchy above, and those below below. Religion has historically been used by government to justify their existance. Religion has just become another way of maintaing the status quo and keeping people in a heirarchical mind pattern.

I don't attach any labels to myself politically. The last time I did that I was technically an anarcho-primitivist, for two minutes, before finding the flaws in even that interpretation. That was about a year ago. As far as anarchy goes, I'm such an anarchist I don't even consider myself one. Hopefully everyone reading this will now know anarchy does not mean chaos. I encourage you to look past the newspeak of the United States Corporate Media and look at what anarchy means to anarchists.

Thats a start. Keep in mind I do not adhere to their philosophy, but I'm astounded at how many people simply don't even know about this option.

As far as Democrat and Republican, they are two faces of the same coin. Does anyone here honestly believe two politcal parties represent the political ideas of 300 million people? Even here in Canada, the electoral reform that may have brought more democracy to our representative parliamentary constitutional monarchy failed, because people were too freakin ignorant to look anything up about it and didn't make the changes needed to get the big three out of their unproportional representation in our Federal and Provincial parliaments.

I volunteered for the Green Party in early October in preperation for the election. Their candidate was a young 24 year old environmental engineer who is bright eyed and busy tailed and had some real ideas. She only got 5,000 votes out of about 50,000 that voted in this riding (90,000 could have voted). More liberal status quo. I only volunteered for the Green Party as part of my therapy, I was told to volunteer for something I believed in. I definitely don't believe in the Green Party, they are simply the lesser of about 5 evils...er parties. When it comes to the real issues of Peak Oil, Climate Collapse, Economic Collapse resulting from these previous two, as well as the law of diminishing returns and the second law of thermodynamics, the Green Party has no freakin' clue. I had many good conversations alone with our riding candidate. She is very intelligent but the problem with specialisation (a requirement for civilisation) is that we get a lot of people that know a lot about nothing.

Being an autodidact, I even do not have a clue about everything. The more you know, the more you know you don't know. etc etc

Party Politics in themselves are inane.

I'm completely disenfranchised from politics now, but that doesn't stop me from being involved and having an opinion, etc.

seriously, if your at home in your closet deciding which outfit you're gonna wear to work, school or out to play, and thinking how you'll look more attractive in this or that....do you not know that guys are gonna stare at you?

but you see these females on occasion that will get all in an uproar when some guy is staring at them....but hello...didn't you choose with pin-point accuracy, the exact top that's gonna reveal your cleavage at it's fullest?????

That is so very, very true. I threw my meeting clothes out for the same reason. Will never dress that way again. Hi five sweetstuff!

Interestingly enough, I used to love dressing in suits, I do actually find them quite comfortable. My style used to be dark 70s style blazers (like houndstooth design or something) and usually light coloured pants. I used to wear any kind of tie I wanted. I never cared if I looked eccentric, I was doing so to purposely keep people away from me or give them a false impression of who I was. By Athena! How interesting it is to psychoanalyse oneself.

Now I always ask if it's an event that requires formal attire, if the answer is affirmative, I usually groan and sigh. Thinking to myself "what a bunch of pompous Aholes". I sometimes slip into that view that suits are just elitist crap. Hope I get over that, there is nothing inherently wrong with a suit, although there are some comical features, such as the oft-mentioned tying a noose around one's neck in the morning seems silly, etc.

to be patronized by a group of men who don't want to be reminded of a woman's sexuality or freedom of expression due to their lack of self control. I burned all my jw clothes a long time ago, good riddance to subjection to dictatorship.

I really truly detest the fear of a female's sexuality. We are sexual beings, people need to learn to cope with that and at the same time cope with civilisation and it's effects on human psychology.

Funny, how I'm trying to encourage the ladies(but not in the easiest of ways), to not dress so revealing, and to actually GET a little more respect from people

Dude, here's an idea, how about you respect a female no matter what she's wearing.

This thread is crazy. 9 pages in one day. As for my thoughts. I used to be a chauvanist when I was a dumba...er witness, but it was all far too vocal, almost like I didn't really believe it.

I dislike gender roles to the extreme. I have many traits that are "traditionally" (I dislike tradition for tradition's sake) female and not very many that are male (for instance I hate cars and contact sports, preferring outdoor activites (or "sports") where I can do it with a partner or by myself). According to many online tests I have taken about my neurological makeup, I have a very "female" -like brain (thought processes and mental inclinations, etc). This reinforces my distain for traditional gender roles.

However, I accept evolution and the differences between males and females (I use females because "girl" and "women" can get some people angry and/or confused, and there are several branches of post-industrial feminism that are absolutely ridiculous). The fact that there is so little sexual dimorphism in humans, among many other things, suggest that males and females had egalitarian relationships in our band stage of evolution (nearly all of it). There are obviously "roles" or rather activities that one would play over the other (for instance breast-feeding infants). However, civilisation has perverted this to the extreme. You must understand that the nuclear family such as we know it is a recent development of civilisation. Relationships between humans during our evolution were much different from anything going on right now. I'll allow you to come to your own conclusions.

When I'm out and about and an attractive female is in front of me, I may causually notice something attractive about her from a rear view... but I don't stare, it makes me feel ... sad in a way. When an attractive female is approaching, it's all about eye contact, I love eyes, it's my soft spot. I like faces and noticing how someone is feeling and imagining what they are thinking about.

I am a people watcher. Mostly because I am a loner at this stage, hopefully to be remedied soon for sanity's sake. I like watching people interact with each other, etc, I may watch people, but I don't stare. And if I do stare, I'm looking people right in the eyes, and this is only when I've noticed I'm hyperfocused or on my ritalin.
