hello, a jw on aol posted this to support their view that jws are charitable.

dear gary, my reason for writing is to address the your newsletter regarding disaster relief.

I think that explains a lot.

No argument that individual JWs can be generous people but the WTS itself is as tight as the bark on a tree and donates relatively nothing to help it's members.

Anyhow- that general message IS true ( I was there as we rebuilt Kingdom Halls and homes ), and regardless of all the cheap shots- thousands of us took time off work (even losing jobs) to go down and help!

So did they receive compensation for losing there jobs? How much money did the WT donate? Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that you help so many people but it sound like the individuals did all the work and donations. I think It would have been more commendable that they would have rebuilt as much homes as possible before rebuilding the KH. I think it shows their priorities.

Let's think about it. Donated skilled labor, donated materials, to repair real property, in some cases Kingdom Halls that the WTS holds the mortgage on. Big relief checks from the gov't. and private insurance payments

That's a good point.

The Kingdumb Melodies

one of the things i find distasteful is what the witnesses' taste for music is.

they have the same 225 songs that they had since 1984. and many of those were carried from the previous book.. what i noticed while i was there is that none of the songs are really music.

they are so poorly written and performed that i think whoever was in charge of it just threw it together.

I always hated the kingdumd songs, so much. It's all part of the mind control tactics. Wen you repeat over and over the same lame crap, it eventually sinks in. They make you feel bad if you don't like them to . I told a "brother" once that I could not stand that "music" he was like "what! how can you not like signing praises to Jehovah?" I said " how can I praise god if it's not from the hart? It's the WT that tells me what to sing"

we often hear it said: love the sinner, but; hate the sin.. we try and reform the child molester.

we put career criminals through rehabiliation.

we let the drunk driver off with a fine and a warning over and over until an innocent family is wiped out.. why separate the deed from the doer?

For example. When I was 20 I was very very shy. I was a Momma's boy with no father figure. I did not play sports or compete. I was frightened around men or social situations. Yet, when I was placed in Jail and subsequently, Federal Prison I was able to endure and propser even in the face of attempted rape. I did not so much choose all this as I discovered what I was made of when faced with certain options. I became what I was.

I get what your saying, I think. We don't choose the life we are given but trough what we experience we achieve our personality. So wen two people have a similar life but one becomes a criminal and the other does not, I believe it's about choice and personality. You don't choose your life or the things that happen to you but we can choose what we are going to do with what we learn.

Arguments JW's can't argue with.....I think???

these are just a couple of arguments i think would cause any half sane jw (if any current and actively brainwashed "true believer" could ever be described as sane), to stop and think for themselves.. thinking person: is the bible and the events it describes true and factual?.

jw: yes.....to the letter.. thinking person: could evolution be true?.

jw: no way.. thinking person: ok, so i just want to get this perfectly clear; evolution in no way happened, is happening, or possibly ever will happen?

They think they are the elite of the world and everyone else is substandard. Closer to home their prophecies/predictions have failed messing up many lives that had invested a lot in them. Their doctrines are also more than debatable since they are always discarding and changing them and not developing them as they claim.

Hi Adolfius, I have an argument that I would like to try with the JW, here it goes

The reason why Adam and Eve had the possibility to sin is because of free will right?

JW: right

can Jehovah sin?

JW: no

can the 144000 sin or Jesus sin after they are resurrected in haven?(the bible said that they will be immortal)

JW:no

so do they still have free will?

JW:???????????

I don't know if this is a good argument but I want to try it. What does every body think of it?

there's not much that makes me wince, not at the movies anyway, but those things that have, have inevitably stayed in the memory.. i saw it a long time ago at the cinema, but the reservoir dogs scene where michael madsen cuts a policeman's ear off to the track stuck in the middle with you, was one such scene.

certainly couldn't watch it again.

Did Peter Predict the Emergence of the WT?

it seems like i remember a few months ago that ak-jeff or maybe someone else alluded to an article from the last few years that definitelty stated that christ did not die for the great crowd.

However, the Nov. 15, 1979, Watchtower emphasizes on pages 24-27
that Jesus Christ acts as a mediator only for a select few: those the
Watchtower regards as the 144,000 anointed Christians. Members of
this group, who also are referred to as "spiritual Israelites," are
those who, according to Witness teaching, will reign in the heavenly
kingdom. The April 1, 1979, Watchtower stresses on page 31 that in a

"strict Biblical sense Jesus is the `mediator' only for anointed
Christians."

As one would expect, the Society must twist God's Word to support
this doctrine. Two distinct examples of how the organization has
changed God's word are found in separate citations of 1 Timothy 2:5,6.
Watchtower writers said on page 26 of the Nov. 15, 1979, Watchtower:
"For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, a man,
Christ Jesus, who gave himself a corresponding ransom for all [or, for
all kinds of people], margin - this is what is to be witnessed to at
its own particular time."
Again, in the same article, the passages is
cited and made to state, "There is one God, and one mediator between
God and men (not all men), a man, Christ Jesus, who gave himself a
corresponding ransom for all."

Man, I'm still amazed ( even if I don't believe in the bible anymore) every time somebody shows how the WTBTS twisted and still twist what the bible says to fit there teachings. that's good stuff.

Interesting Critique of Naturalism

We evolved as a social primate, according to Shermer, "with an ascending hierarchy of needs from self-survival of the individual (basic biological needs), to the extension of the individual through the family (the selfish gene), to a sense of bonding with the extended family (driven by kin selection [or] helping those most related to us), to the reciprocal altruism of the community (direct and obvious payback for good behaviors), to indirect altruism of society (doing good without direct payback), to species altruism and bioaltruism as awareness of our membership in the species and biosphere continue[d] to develop" (20).

The way I see it if the god of the bible is real the only way to determine what is good or bad is based on what he says. Murder is wrong but if god kills it's O.K. Having more than one wife is wrong now but it was once O.K. because god said so.

The problem with this approach is that it doesn't give an account for why certain actions are morally right and wrong. This naturalist attempt only offers an explanation as to why we happen to think some things are right and wrong. This subtle distinction is crucially important in order to understand why this attempt to naturalize ethics fails. How would this type of naturalism handle, for example, the claim "murder is wrong"? The naturalist would explain that we believe and strive to follow this rule because our species has been psychologically programmed to believe it is true as a consequence of natural selection. But it is still unknown whether this moral claim is, in fact, true. After accepting this theory, one could ask oneself, "I understand why I happen to think murder is wrong, but is it really wrong? Is there any real restraint against me committing acts of murder?" And on the natural selection view, there is no reason to think any action is really right or wrong in the moral sense.

So the only reason somebody who believes in god would not do something wrong is because god said so and if you do not obey you will be punished. So why is that any better?
