I can understand kids being bored at church, it's just being raised as a Dub you learn that they are the only true religion and have to go knocking on door to announce that. I've often wondered if I was raised a Baptist (as my UberDub mother was) or any other religion would I have the same feelings about religion that I have now.

What is the purpose of Field Service??
by quellycatface inthe so used to say it was life saving work.i wasn't convinced.it was soul destroying in the area i lived.i didn't want to be so cynical as to think, it was just to gain converts, therefore more money but it certainly looks that way now..

This guy sounds like he trying to score some brownie points are something, bringing back someone to "da troof" that's been out so long. Don't trust him.

On a totally different side of taking in somebody associated with the JWs, (a brother, who was once the only anointed member in the cong I was grew up in but he and his wife walked away more than 20 years ago) his mother was asked by another person in her Cong to take in a brother who was in and out of "the truth" but he was once again studying and needed a place to live, she agreed and took him in, he murdered her, but thankfully he's in jail now and will be there for quite some time.

Hi!! What are you doing/drinking/thinking this fine eve and weekend?
by Jon Preston inforgive me europe for i know you have all commenced and ended your night but what are you all drinking this evening?
what are your thoughts?

I don't drink 80 proof alcohol anymore, so just beer and wine. Today and the weekends fave will be a Red from the Beringer Collection, nothing fancy.
However, tonight I just tried out a recipe for roasted lentils, instead of having potato chips, popcorn, etc. came out quite nice and crunchy.

ATMs in assembly halls
by Xanthippe ini only heard about these atms last year on this forum.
the poster seemed to be saying they are for donating only, is that correct?
absolutely gobsmacked over this, don't the brothers see any correlation between this and the likes of jimmy swaggart?

If my mom were still alive and the Dubs found out that the Catholic or any other religion installed ATM machines in their churches, I can here it now, "isn't that something how Christendom has placed ATM machines in their churches instead of passing the plate every Sunday, yada, yada yada. . . however, if she were still alive and heard that the Dubs installed ATMs she would say, "oh, what a lovely provision by the Elders and Jehovah if you don't have the correct amount of cash on you, you can just use your bank card" . . . makes me wanna puke!! And trust me, that's exactly what she and other UBERDUBS would say

Do you think not having the book study in private homes has had much effect?
by truthseeker init's been a few years since the organization ended the book study arrangement in private homes.. gone was the last opportunity to have tea and biscuits and a natter with the friends afterwards.. do you think people regret losing the book study?
for some, it may have been the only time they were able to get some "associaton".

A sister had a demon living in her big toe and farts all the way home from the meeting, oh well, just another faithful servant of Jehovah. Sounds like a pioneer to me, is she?

Amusing line in April 2014 KM
by respectful_observer inunder "2014 convention reminders":.
seat saving: when the doors to the facility are opened each morning, please to not rush to the seating area of your preference as if competing with fellow attenders.
a self-sacrificing spirit that moves us to seek the good of others identifies us as true christians and moves onlookers to praise god.. ................................................................ i personally don't recall them previously making reference to the jw-version of the "running of the bulls" that takes place every morning when the doors open at 8:00 a.m. have seen it myself many times, it's always good for a laugh.

I remember when the Dubs used to hold the District Assembly in the early 70's at a stadium in Jersey City, NJ, for all four days the way we found our seats was to say "I see you're saving these, but when the people come, we will leave" , needless to say the folks for ALL four days never came and we never had to change our seats.

Talked to JW's in Service Today (kinda long...sorry)
by exwhyzee ini was in my company vehicle and i spotted some jw's going from door to door.. i circled around the block and pulled over.
when they passed, i rolled down the .
window and asked the pleasant looking middle aged couple as they passed, if they were jehovah's .

Basically, as you and I know, they expressed their shock and anger over the events you shared but then said Jehovah's spirit will prevail and you will see the "correct light" as opposed to those who gave you the bullshit advice.

My uber Dub mom would always mentions how "the worldly religions" baptize their kids as infants and how silly that is, but can a 9, 10, or 11 year old sign a contract or lease or support themselves, Dubs are no different than the "wicked worldly folks" just too damn blind to see it, or, they just make believe they don't see it.
