How many remember the 1969 8 day convention?

anybody remember the 8 day 1969 international convention.

i was at the braves stadium in atlanta all 8 days with a sunburn and then wet clothes after the rain storms.

if you were there (not necessarily in atlanta) do you remember anything about it?

I was 17 and at Yankee Stadium. What I remember is that my mother let me stay in a hotel in the city ALONE for a few days of the convention. Two things stand out as think about this: Why wasn't SHE at the convention? And why on earth did she think it OK for a 17 yr old boy to be alone in NYC?

I remember blowing off the convention one night and going to see "The Love Bug". I also remember the 100,000+ attendance and being on field during one session.

I have a couple vague memories of the 1958 convention too. Six at the time.

Suicide

hello all.. i post here under a different name but feel the need to unburden myself anonymously.

i hope you can understand.. several years ago, while married and an active dub, i had a one night stand.

i was mortified at what i had done because this had happened before and i had told my wife.

I want to commend every person who has posted here for their compassion and understanding regarding Regrets.

I second that. About a year and half ago a 29 yr. old father of 2 I knew commited suicide. At the time I admired him. He carried out what I had only thought of, planned but never carried out.

I have felt the desperation and 'suicide is the only option' as recently as last week. Today I see light at the end of the tunnel.

my mom passed away yesterday.

she was a die-hard jw.

i tried to explain why i couldn't accept certain teachings but rather than rationally consider what i had to say she chose to believe i was just "confused".

My Mom passed away yesterday. She was a die-hard JW. I tried to explain why I couldn't accept certain teachings but rather than rationally consider what I had to say she chose to believe I was just "confused". She died praying I would get "spiritually strong" which to her meant getting back into the JW program of "true worship". Not gonna happen. I admire her faith though and expect she has been/will be surprised at what has occured after her death.

" (niv) of course, paul had in mind the enslavement to the law of moses.

Thank you Jim. We actually met at BRCI last year. I appreciate the caution to take a looooong look at new ideologies. It is the mindset I have embraced.

Any current Good Standing JW, posting here?

i was wondering if there are any current regular posters here that are still active , but are mentally inactive and don't believe all the bull anymore, and are just going through the motions to keep their life with friends and family together.. i realize this might be a posting that will probably get 0 replies, but.......

I have been inactive for over 3 years but still attend some Sundays and assemblies. I'm probably not in "good standing" because the elders know I have divergent views and my employer is an "apostate" who used to be PO in my cong, so I think I'm "marked" because we have no social contact with the cong. I am free to comment at the WT if I choose, however. But like I.Wonder:

Sometimes I get really sick of living a lie and want to make a clean break, other times I want to continue fading. Fading is going very slow for me.

However I hate to validate JW beliefs by talking with them as if I still believe...This choice to converse with them as if I still believe is what is really getting to me right now. I feel very torn about his and still haven't made a concrete decision as to how I will make my escape from the WT.

My wife knows that I don't agree with certain things but really has no idea how disconnected I am.

Breaking through fears

what were the worst fears that held you back from enjoying life, from living the life you want, achieving the things you want most?

how did you break through them?

they say fears are to a great extend imagined: f.e.a.r = false evidence appearing real.

Good question Greendawn. For someone like me with a deeply imbedded "low self image" program running I think it is actually fear of success. I can clearly see the choice between that which is in my best interests and not and will inevitably incline toward that which will hurt me because God forbid I should be happy. Any time things are actually working toward a stable happiness I will find a way to sabotage it.

Leaving the "Way International" - WOW this sounds familiar....

i have been corresponding with a group calling itself 'biblical unitarians', also 'spirit and truth fellowship'.

the doctrine is very similar on many levels with the jw doctrine, which is, at the same time, familiar and comfortable, and scary too.

in an effort to discover the 'roots' of this group i emailed the leadership.

Wow Jeff...pretty amazing parallels. I remember many years having a return visit with a couple that got involved with The Way. I didn't look into then but the thing I remember is that they had pretty much turned all their material possessions over to the group.
