The NWT of John 1:1; Some Questions For Leolaia and Narkissos

to get right to the point, acts 12:22 and 28:6 both contain an anarthrous occurence of "theos" or a derivative, depending on one's textual base.

in both instances these verses are rightfully rendered "a god" and not "god.

" why, then, the mainstream christian problem with the same anarthrous construction in john 1:1 being translated in the nwt as "the word was a god"?

Excuse my lack of the exact scriptures here.

Scripture stated by God, I believe he states there are NO gods before me and NO gods after me. So doesn't this conflict with all the mention of apostles calling Jesus and Satan Gods? (also as taught by the WTS) If scripture is God breathed and/or inspired, why would he go against what he said in the OT?

And as for honoring, scripture says to honor Christ the same as honoring God.

and John 1:1...it's illogical that God would make his words here, with such controversy, and with such difficulty to understand the context Would his goal be that he didn't want followers to be clear of the Deity of his representaion of Christ as a symbol of his sacrifice to man for sin? ie, he wanted it to be confusing? I can't believe it myself. I think it was meant to be as clear as Christianity has portrayed it, and the way it is most commonly translated.

my jw roommate always sends her mom and stepdad cards.

i told her last night i was proud of her for doing that.

she said she would do it until the day she died.

There is no friggin' worship in mother's day. Their mind control makes me sick.

As I've said before I work with about 7 witnesses.

One is graduating and having a 70's dress up graduation party. Most of them and many JW's are going to it.

So you can't give your mom or dad a card to say I love you, but you can party down and build up attention and celebrate a graduate, where you know there will be booze.

I always thought, that JW's were those 2 young guys riding around on bikes dressed in white dress shirts, black pants, backpack and a helmet.

For years. Then I found out from the JW's at work it was the mormons. I thought it was funny.

What a coincidence

i seem to have encountered many strange coincidences in my life.

for some reason it mostly has had to do with my past boyfriends as well as my husband.

here are a few examples that i can think of off the top of my head.. when i was 15, some friends at school wanted to hook me up with one of their friends.

Sorry to hear about the guy who died. I think alot of people probably have connections like this in one way or the other sometimes. I've had my share. I'm in the graphics industry. Signs, vehicle graphics, printing, etc.

I lived in NC for a couple years in the early 90's in a smaller town. A house in the boon-docks, with my dad. So fast forward 11 years to SC where I had a store front graphics shop in a plaza. I ended up doing various graphics for a new dent repair company, his trailers and bus. cards, etc. Well, in ocassional socializing with him and his wife in the shop one day, I find out that her brother lives in the same house I used to live in in NC. Do you know what the odds are in that? 2 States, with all the thousands of houses he could have lived in, and there was that connection. She even brought back some pictures of it, and yep...that was the one!

Not a biggie, but just wanted to add something for ya.

Hey, have you pondered over the thought that if you were with him that day, he would have been doing something entirely different cause he was with you, and wouldn't have been killed?

1. whenever we did the kingdom hall cleaning and would wear casual clothes, we weren't allowed to wear any shirt/sweatshirt/top w/ a logo on it!!!

(and not obvious stuff like "camel cigs" or "budweiser"), but stuff like "reebok" "quiksilver" etc etc etc.

(omg) (hey, on the way out, you reminded me of this in another post!!).

Heard one today and in the past.

A fading witness came in today and another witness said she "didn't like his new goatee" after he left. She acted like he just joined a Satan Club or something, you should have seen her face. Get over it, it's the way men want themselves to look sometimes, and it's God-given. Shaving hurts on ocassion, and you get tired of it! Go tell "Jehover" you don't like what he gave to men.

How do I get a Witness to do some deep research on Russell? Any Pointers?

i feel most witnesses don't know of the history behind russell and the beginnings of the society.

they're bent on "origins" of things, but we know that the wts keeps material and knowledge to a minimal on the origins of the society, and specifically russell.

to a co-worker, i hinted at the pyramid memorial about russell, and he said he didn't know what i was talking about (a 20 year jw veteran).. any pointers on how i can ease the subject into "forbidden" conversation around the witnesses at work?

I feel Most Witnesses don't know of the history behind Russell and the beginnings of the society. They're bent on "Origins" of things, but we know that the WTS keeps material and knowledge to a minimal on the origins of the society, and specifically Russell. To a co-worker, I hinted at the pyramid memorial about Russell, and he said he didn't know what I was talking about (a 20 year JW veteran).

Any pointers on how I can EASE the subject into "forbidden" conversation around the witnesses at work? They brought up the Adventist subject criticizing a SDA women one of them talked to on the street or something and it reminded me of Russell's beginnings.

How shocked were you at finding out about the Pyramid Memorial?

i am a former jw, but i still believe what they do about the holidays?

i have already talked about origins and all that stuff so i wanted to ask something without bringing up scriptual or historical backgrounds for a change.. my question is (whatever your beliefs may be) what % of people who celebrate christmas, if you took the presents out of christmas would still acknowledge christmas as much as they do now?

BR25, you didn't win that discussion. Coming from being a witness, you can't understand that not all Christians think alike about every single issue.

There's a difference between Halloween and Christmas, incase you haven't noticed(you just see them as holidays as the same).

For a Christian, Christmas involves honoring Chist, the gratefullness of his birth for our salvation. This is scriptural whether you want to believe it or not.

Halloween is not scriptural, so some might partake in the festivities of it...or they might not. some don't like the scary-ness of Halloween, but they like the candy, and fun costume side of it...it all varies a little.

You need to search the biggest reason for the beginning of Christmas, instead of thinking it was all just a bunch of Pagans in their false god celebrations. It was begun to bring the non-believers, to Christ. The Church leaders just used creativity to get the job done, period. Want to talk about origins? Don't get me started. Are you familiar with Egyptian Pyramids?......
