No. If he left for three or four weeks at a time, then shame on him. But a few days here and there....so what? He's a family man and his children and wife deserve his time and attention.

Another question, if I may...
by AGuest inand may you all have peace!
this is another general question for the board and i ask your indulgence because i am trying to understand how others think.
if there truly is no god/god... what is wrong with the existence of religion?

shech:
Religion simply creates DOGMA and places all reality in convenient and comfortable categories and then forces its members to assent to its constructs.
I have refused to limit my thinking to their categories; so I don't fit in anywhere.
Maybe that is the true meaning of the scripture: "Each one will sit under his own vine and fig tree". We are each and every one our own so-called temple. If we find like-mined individuals to associate with, then, great! "Where there are two or three gathered together in my name, there I AM."
Maybe that's why some of us enjoy this board. We are all different, but alike, too, in that we are mostly open-minded free-thinkers who have broken free from repressive religious dogma. The connection is there, but it doesn't strangle and hinder our individual search.

For me, it's their crimes against God that I have a problem with, including "speaking" in His name and/or for Him... or doing things in His name... when they don't even know Him.
I see what you are suggesting, Shelby. But, my friend, we may be tempted to judge them as criminals for speaking on behalf of God when he hasn't (in our opinion) given them this authority, but we are not their judges. It is my understanding the Christ judges some "churches" harshly, and some commendably (Rev.)
As far as why unbelievers cut corporate rhetoric slack, but can't do the same for religions, don't you think it stems from a kind of deep-seated prejudice and hatred.....no different from racism or sexism? Some of them are foaming-at-the-mouth angry at anything and anybody that smacks of "God", much less religions that claim to speak for Him, that they can't see the similarity. One sells a product and one sells God (or their particular brand of God). It's the "product" that bothers them so much because of an inner hatred for it.

Interesting point of view, Shelby. I definitely see your point. But, shouldn't religion come with some kind of WARNING! label similar to what is on a pack of cigs or bottle of alcohol? Or, perhaps a Disclaimer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disclaimer
I don't know about other parts of the country, but the churches around here are heavily involved in charitable endeavors. Even if someone does not believe in God, association with a church that focuses on community and altruistic acts rather than burdensome doctrine is rewarding. One in particular has a huge sign out front that reads, Free Produce for the Needy. They distribute fresh veggies and fruit and if you have a surplus from your garden, you can drop it off there and they will make sure someone in need will get it.

They Stole another piece of my childhood... now im SURE i'm not getting a panda ;-(
by elderelite inwell, stole retroactively.
a friend pointed out a glaring omission in the book of bible stories.. well frankly a bold faced lie of omission!.
its a tragedy but fact that most of us raised as dubbie kids learn the bible from the "my book of bible story's"... story 15 is about lot and his family leaving sodom.

How far away do you have to be before you cannot see a mushroom cloud? Just askin'. (I think that story is allegorical.)
You think the My Book of Bible Stories is scary and hokey, you should have seen the orange "Paradise" book. I had nightmares about the ground opening up with huge cracks where I could fall in and the crack closes in on me. (I was somewhat claustrophobic.) I wanted a Lion back then to pet....I guess the next generation up switched to Pandas.

Why Arguments and Debates on the Trinity are a Waste of Time
by AllTimeJeff inthis isn't meant to be a shit stirring topic, just a thought or two, a memory really, from my jw days.
because i know i have more experience then most on debating the veracity of the trinity..... there are two camps, people of faith, and people of math.. people of faith will always be more convinced of the trinity every day, because for the most part, the teachers of the trinity are very up front about the fact that it is a mystery.. so the more you point out how illogical it is, the more a mystery the trinity becomes, and thus, it also becomes more real.
awesome!

I have tried to understand the Trinity Doctrine. But, I was raised a JW and sometimes something is so deeply ingrained, that the necessary mechanistic mental tools are just too weakly attached to a concept that they can't hold on to the idea long enough to get it to stick firmly.
Finally, one day the phrase "The Creator Creating Creation" is what came to me. I pondered that for a while and it seemed reasonable to me. I envisioned my daddy out in the garage building a table for our family. He (the subject) can stand alone. The act of building can be seen as an individual act (the verb). And the table can be viewed separately (the object). But, when you put them all together, you have the whole idea...the complete sentence....the reason....the love, power, wisdom, the God of Creation.

My Facebook Page, "God is not divided" is not responded to.
by shechaiyah ini thought the topic of religion would be a great one for facebook.. wow, was i wrong about that.. http://www.facebook.com/pages/god-is-not-divided/112694992130588.
the only people are show any interest at all are catholics.. witnesses seem to avoid every venue where somebody else might show up.. zionists do likewise; but they have a different reason.. but, god yhvh is god of the whole earth, is my point.. anybody got any idea what i can do to stimulate godly conversation on my page?.
i'm tryin' to minister to the merely-confused as witnesses do out in service.. .

As of today I have 4998 Friends, but most of them never see what I put up, ever.
Maybe most of them don't see what you put up because they themselves have made their settings block your posts. I have a couple of friends on FB that post a lot of stuff I'm not particularly interested in seeing pop up all the time. I have tweaked my settings to not show it.
I'll be blunt, Shechaiyah. I like you (so far), but you appear to be a bit paranoid.

Stupid suggestion from Study Conductor
by roxanesophia inhi everyone, first i just want to say if it wasn't this forum, i'd be baptized!
i haven't managed to successfully end my studies with a zealous jw.
she uses everything against me to brainwash me into believing i need the org.

All good comments and suggestions.
It seems like she sees you as weak and unable to be assertive, so she is going to push and push until she has accomplished her goal: to make a Bible Study a baptized JW.
This puts Big Spiritual Points on her record. After she accomplishes that goal, I can promise you she won't bother you or love bomb you nearly so much. You'll be on your own!

It has everything to do with people.
If you are trusting them to be some sort of chosen channel for Truth that Leads to your Everlasting Life, you better KNOW exactly who these people are...what their track record is...and where they are leading you exactly. I'll bet dollars to donuts 90% of them cannot even tell you the names and family background of half the Governing Body. And I won't even mention the doofus bunch of elders that hold your current Life in their hands. I have seen them ruin too many families with their judgements!!
