  My Encounter with a Witness

  well, the other night i had invited a young man to my house to share with him, respectfully, the false prophecies of the wt, using older wt books.

  the conversation started very nicely, with the usual small talk and such.

  i decided to ask some questions, that i knew the answers to, but just wanted to get the gears in his head turning.

  I would like to see more references to books that were NOT written by CT Russell way back when. How about books written by the WTS in the last 20 years or so? I think that will have much more leaverage. Remeber, the religion was just developing back then, so of course all JWs are going to expect that CT did not have all the accurate knowledge because it was not food at the proper time.

  Something more recent people. I always shake my head when I hear people using books that old to try to sway JWs. Of course they are not going to take it seriously.

  answer to emails

  many have emailed me regarding donations for the victims of the terrorist attacks in new york and washington d.c. others have expressed concern and would like to help with donating money.

  i have found a way to do that.

  i have signed up with several programs that pay for leads.

  The only problem with these programs is that they take a great deal of time to pay and actually involve a good deal of effort supplying information about yourself, etc...and lead to a LOT of junk emails. I know this because I started signing up with hundreds of different programs two years ago. Most went out of business before any money was paid.

  There are a lot of legit sites out there, and I am not doubting your sincerity. With many you have to reach a certain dollar amount before a check is issued (say, $20, $30 $50 ). However, these people need the money now. I think it would be more helpful for us to send in small donations now.

  Just my opinion...I am posting this because I don't think many people realize the time involved in signing up for these programs and all the junk mail that it will create. I would hate for people to be upset with you because of this.

  ok so i hear from my bro, that he hears the fbi is saying somthing might happen on the 22nd.

  the other day there were several low flying planes around the nuclear station in our area.

  they were unknown, and there was not to be any schedualed flights at the time in the area.

  "Imagine" all the inappropriate songs...

  this is a complete list of "lyrically inappropriate" songs being banned from several us radio stations in the wake of the attacks.. "it's very dangerous," says nina crowley, director of massmic, a music free-speech organization.

  "i understand they're pulling certain violent songs.

  but you put out a list of songs like this, and the next thing you know someone's pulling the albums off the shelves in wal-mart.".

  Why won't they ever ban songs by the boy bands? I think it would be very healthy for this country if we were never subjected to 'Nsync, Backstreet boys...ick all those!

  Hmmm....maybe this is the real reason that religious extremist hate the US. Think of all the evil boy band music that the US has unleashed on the world!!!

  I never realized that the WTS would refuse to give anyone a subscription! How arrogant!

  I let mine run out a few years ago, and let my son's to the Awake run out a year or so ago. I did it because I didn't often read them and thought it was wrong to waste paper. I am thinking about asking my mom to get a subscription for me again, but I do not want her to get her hopes up and think I want to come back. I am quite intrigued as to what will be coming out soon.

  most religions organized in a way that they expected their members to take their beliefs seriously.

  will the overwhelming media attention generated by last tuesdays events and the eminent threat of war divert attention away from the importance of the upcoming dateline expose?

  i must say that being labeled an apostate has made my life quite interesting.

  i'm shunned every day at cosmetology school and the town i live in is small and i run into jw's all the time.

  I don't think you should not go just because it is a Mary Kay party. I have had plenty of friends in the past that have had Mary Kay, Tupperware, Pampered Chef, etc., other type sales parties for the excuse to get together. No one felt they had to buy, and it was usually fun. Remember, without holidays and birthdays, etc., some people feel there is no excuse to have get togethers.

  Call your friend and ask her if there will be JWs there and let her know that you don't want it to be ackward for you or her. If you really considered this person a friend, I say go. If she studied long enough to know how JWs are supposed to shun people, then she is being gutsy inviting you because she misses you and doesn't want to shun you.

  If you don't want to go, just call her and ask if you can get together for coffee or something. It sounds like she misses you too. I would give her the benefit of doubt.

  Blood, DPA Question ... how do you void?

  since leaving the organization, i never gave any thought to the blood issue or the dpa (durable healthcare power of attorney)that i signed 3 or 4 years ago.

  now that i have surgery scheduled in 3 and a half months ... one in which the surgeons will have a high degree of bleeding to control, it has been on my mind a lot.. it got me to thinking about how my dpa is technically still in effect and my jw mother and my elder brother-in-law have medical say if i am not able to express my wishes.

  my question is ... how do you officially void a dpa?

  What you need to do is have a conversation with your doctor and do a new durable power of attorney. Most hospitals have DPA forms that you can complete. If you do it ahead of time, and make sure that your doctor has a copy there should be no question.

  I would also recommend telling your parents about this so that they will not have to wonder how you feel. Several years ago my sister, who had not attended a meeting in years, got in a horrible car accident. She needed a blood transfusion, and it was a very hard decision for my mother because she was not sure how my sister felt. Since my sister was living a very "worldly" life (actually, she was a heavy drinker and partier) and was never baptised, my mother decided not to make an issue of her receiving blood. I would hate for your family to have to make a decision and not be sure of what you really want. Doing a new DPA will take the onus of your family and make your wishes clear.

  Thanks for posting this...althought I DO have a nonJW husband, I have not done a dpa and don't think I have made myself clear to my mom. If my hsuband and I were to ever get into an accident together, my mom would most likely be the one they would ask.

  Pre-partum/ Post-partum depression......

  has either one ever affected you?.

  i,for one, am having a case of pre-partum blues, specifically because i'm having the pregnancy from hell.. i'm ready to hear any advice y'all have.. lisa
