  is Samuel Herd the same one that was District overseer in MA/NH for a while? If so I knew him...liked him very much.

  Sounds like an interesting read...I think I will have to look it up. When I was going to the hall, there were about 10 elders in our congregation of about 120 or so active publishers...and one of them was black...not too bad when you consider there were only 2 or 3 black brothers in the congregation. He was appointed in the early 80s I believe...

  One of the reasons I liked it when we had our assemblies in MA was because there were always a decent mix of whites and non whites, both in the crowd and on the platform. I think there is a lot more sexism in the religion than racism...but I am a white female, so I have no idea what it is like to feel racism...I am sure it is there, but I don't think it is any more racist than some other religions.

  We Love You,We Miss You and Shoveling Snow!

  so,tell me,how many of you received a phone call from those that call you to come to the meetings and field service who love you and miss you,how many of you treceived a phone call to check up on you to see if you needed anything especially to have your sidewalk shoveled off by one of the concerned eldersor ministerial servants,during this major snowstorm?.

  my wife and i were out shoveling snow and did not see one jw,neither have we heard from those that love us and miss us,to assist us in this time of need,shoveling snow and etc.. how about any of you?.

  thats a bummer...I must say where I went to the hall we did have brothers that would go out and plow and help shovel disabled or elderly JWs driveways

  what is the jw stance on having relations with one's wife while she is having her menstrual period?

  one of them told me that because there is "blood" it is against god's law, although i never heard that before.

  Actually, I think it has more to do with the man's help....as in, you may not want to try to iniate sex during your wifes period to avoid frying pan on the side of your head.

  as in, "Oh NO you DIDN'T just ask for sex!!! GRRRRRRRRRR"

  or it could be the other way around, where the woman is just OUT OF CONTROL, and the husband may not survive the sexual experience.

  No, if you know they do not celebrate xmas do not send it.

  It is one thing if someone sent it not realizing they did not celebrate it, but sending it when you know, and they KNOW you know, would be in poor taste. If you really want to send them a card, just send a non holiday one. You will be showing that you care and that you respect their beliefs.

  Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

  Your Favorite Football Team?

  superbowl is around the corner and just wondering how many of you are football fans and who your favorite team is?.

  me, i don't watch football as much as i used to.

  i'm from huntington, wv and the football team there is marshall university "the thundering herd".

  Patriots, baby!

  But now I am in Texas I barely get to watch them...so sad...I told my husband if we dont get Direct Tv or something where I can get there games next year, I may have to have a fall home back in NH hahah.

  Lastcall...my god you are a true fan...very impressive. Keep the faith, this Browns team is really still fairly new...what a few years, so they will turn it around someday.

  My brother died last night

  my brother turned 21 on september 24th, a month later the doctor told him that his leukimia had returned and he had a 10% chance of surviving.

  ten days before he died he spent four days at my house.

  he had already made up his mind that he wasnt going to take blood.

  Doodle....I am so sorry for the loss of your brother!

  I have been fortunate and have never lost a sibling, but I did lose my father when I was 20. I know it is not the same thing, but the one thing that I can offer to you as a comfort is that as time goes by the hurt will lessen somewhat, but your memories of him will comfort you.

  Please make sure you cherish the memories you have of him, and do not avoid the funeral. I think you might regret that. Also, if you can, please ask your family to make sure that besides just a funeral talk, that there is an actual eulogy for your brother. My mother was not in the state of mind when she planned my dad's funeral, so it just a stupid JW standard talk. Nothing about him. My mother really regrets that.

  Take the time you need to grieve I am not familiar with how your relationship is with your parents, but don't let the fact that they are JWs and you are not interfere with grieving with them as a family. I think everyone needs that. I was returning to the KH when my dad died, but I was able to grieve right along with all my non JW siblings and did not care that they did not have the same beliefs as I did. It may help somewhat..

  Take care of yourself kiddo...I know you have the strength to get through this difficult time.

  I have always been of the opinion that the funeral is more for the family of the dead than just to show respect for the person that died.

  So hopefully, if it really was a suicide the other JWs will see it that way and attend, and support his family through this. Its too bad.
