Pyramid Schemes - Melaleuca - MLM
by NOdenial inok... this topic will probably get some people quite upset - but i am going to say it anyways.
the topic of 'con artist types' in the borg reminded me of this issue.. where i come from in western canada and usa, there is a huge issue of dubs getting involved in melaleuca.
there is one brother in the interior of british columbia that is making much more money in a month than most people make in a year.

Invatation Snubs - Anybody?
by CaptK inmy mother who has been a jw for over 50 yrs, was sent an invatation to an elder's son high school graduation party.
however it was addressed to just her alone not including her husband who is not a witness but a nice guy just no jw.
the elder's son has yet to speak to my mother at the meetings even a hello or a casual conversation.

I was invited to a wedding about 12 years ago. My friend from our hall was getting married several states away. He and his fiance both knew it would be difficult for me to go. However, they both told me in person that even they knew I probably wouldn't make it, that they wanted to make sure I was invited, because they really really wanted me to go. Because of that, I did every thing I could, and was able to get there. They were estatic that I was going to be able to make it. I did tell them I didn't have money for a gift though, but they didn't care. Basically, they consider my presense there the only present they wanted from me.
I had another couple I was friends with that had a HUGE 10 year anniversary party. They were married in a civil ceremony and never had a wedding or reception. They made it clear to everyone invited (which was the whole congregation plus many others) that they didn't want any presents. this was a celebration they wanted others to share in.
I know there are a lot of financial limitations on weddings...all the catering etc...so you cannot invite everyone you know of course. But I don't think any invitation to a wedding should mean you have to give a present. I really feel that you should never invite any to a wedding that you don't want there celebrating your marriage with you. I dunno, maybe this is just me being cheap. If one can afford to give a gift, then you should, but giving out invitations just so you can get more gifts is just tacky in my eyes.

Else,
That is a beauty! I have an old radio/record player from the 30s or 40s too. I paid 25 for it at an antique store. It worked in the store, but didnt when it was delivered....argh...husband assures me we can find the stuff to get it fixed if we look hard enough. Mine isn't in as great condition as yours, though. We use it for a tv stand in our bedroom, hahah. I love it....it looks cool.

my nephew stuck a sunflower seed up his nose when he was a little kid. My sister took him to ther emergency room. After a long while, the doctor had it almost all the way out, and my nephew snorted...back up the nose it went. My sister said the doctor was quite mad.

It's 12:43 am. Do you know where your sanity is????
by JV ini was this close to paying .99 cents for the new dave matthews song "american baby" but i found an uncorrupted version on limewire, thank god, phew that was a close one...... i can't help but wonder how my life would be different if i wasn't involved with the jw's, i'm an all or nothing kinda guy, this sort of in sort of out state i'm in is really frustrating me.
i've been thinking lately about life bjwce (before jehovahs witness common era) there was this feeling of endless possibilites like anything could happen, sorta of like when you're a kid and you can be anything you want like president (but we all know you're last name has to be bush to be president, go jeb!!!
) call it what you will that's just how i felt.

when I was a kid we had to rely on others to bring us to the hall because my mom didn't have a car most of the time and my dad wasn't home in time for her to use his truck. I still have a soft spot in my heart for the ones that did this for us. My mom would give them gas money when she could, but most of the time they would just give it back to her.
That being said..I too noticed that the elders would often let those that really weren't in the position to do a lot take care of the most difficult cases in the hall. My poor mom is a crazy person magnet. All the nut job women that study end up relying on her for help. There is this one case, where a lady at her hall has the IQ of a 13 year old kid. She lived with her mom until she was in her 50s. Now, her mother set up a fund before she died so that there would always being money for the brothers to make sure that her daughter got to the hall and to all the assemblies. However, the daughter quickly deteroiated after she died. My mom would try to talk to the elders for this poor lady, but they were stubborn and felt that she must not really want to come to the hall or the assemblies because she wasn't doing much to convey it to them herself. This poor woman. My mom happens to live less than a mile down the street, and I think she really is the only person in the world that this poor lady can call a friend. She is a bit nuts, and sometimes my mom even has to tell her to calm down.
There have been other people at my mom's hall too that are basically snubbed by the elders because they are not the ideal person to deal with. It bothers me a lot.If this lady had been involved in another church, they would probably make sure she had home health visits, and that the state was involved in making sure she stayed safe.

Cain had intercourse with his wife??
by fairchild inthis question has probably been asked many times before, but i'd like to hear the answer from different people.
where do you think cain's "wife" come from?
-
Eyebrow2
Actually, Cain found her on eHarmony.com
Actually, back then it was in its beta stage and was called eHarmony.rock. He had to chisel out a form on a rock tablet, answering questions that would determine his relationship potential on at least 29 different levels. Since he and his future wife both checked off "loves to garden" and "not afraid to kill" they were a perfect match.

Maleluca has some KICK ASS skin lotion...especially the one for very very dry and damaged skin...very expensive though.
My mom was involved with it for a while. Didn't make any money, because she has always tried to just sell the products, not make a second religion out of it, like most involved (which is really the only way you could ever make a living off of it.)
It isn't technically a pyramid scheme though, because there is product involved etc...but of course MY argument has always been, if these products are so wonderful, and the company so redeeming, why don't they just sell them in stores? That is the same argument I have for Shaklee (which has some awesome biodegradable cleaning products) and other such MLM companies. Or why don't they just restructed themselves like Avon and Mary Kay, and keep it purely direct selling so that the person can make a little money with out putting people under them...etc...etc...
I just read Mulan's post she linked to. She is right, I think 90% of the people that get involved with MLM don't expect too, and don't want to do any real work. They you have organizations like Amway that probably make more money off of their stupid tapes and books and endless peusdo religions meetings. (Amway has some great laundry detegent and cat litter, btw)
In reality, if someone is good at direct selling, and isn't too pushy, then Shaklee and Melaleuca really are not bad companies to be involved in. I think Shaklee...from what I have seen with the people I know in it, is probably the least annoying. A good sales person that has a decent product can sell anything. Too many people sign up for MLM that just cannot cut it, or have "get rich quick" attitudes.

Stars Wars: Attack of the Clones...shudder..boring!!!
I am going to wait until the new one is out on dvd...I don't think I can stomach paying $8 to see a Lucas film if it isn't any good. It makes me sad...
The Grudge..stupid ending...not a very good film at all.
