up until a few years ago......every dec. km had a part encouraging everyone to go in the ministry on the holidays.......christmas day, etc.. no one ever got too excited about it in our cong.
.........it was pretty much a joke to everyone even when commenting on it during the meeting part.. that no longer seems to be the case..........haven't seen any parts like this for a few years now......i guess they've given up completely.. the meeting part usually included some "fine experiences"......but i have heard exactly the opposite from some who actually tried it one time.. have any of you ever went in service on christmas day?
I did go out on Christmas day, BUT usually in the afternoon...not mornings so that we did not interrupt opening of the gifts..that was a bit much...and only on Thanksgiving morning not in the afternoon.
Eh....it never really bothered me too much. I never thought too much of the pioneers who went out all week long during the day when NO ONE WAS HOME. I wanted to be out when the peeps were home.

my e-mail account has been compromised.
as a result, i am no longer getting any e-mail or even junk mail ... so someone is re-directing all my e-mail.
also, some of my e-mail are missing, especially in certain sensitive files.
I only started using hotmail again a few months ago when I moved and needed something until they got our email straightened out with our isp....long story
I like to use the free ones for stuff like this...I use my full name with my isp and work email...so everyone will know me then...how can I post crap if I use my real name???

does anyone else remember(years ago) the wts claiming that as time went on and people became less and less godless, that in the years right before armaggedon was to strike, people would forego the celebrating of christmas?.
i remember this being taught when i was a young-un.
i don't know if it was ever in print or not, but i definately remember it being said at book studies and kh meetings.. somebody tell me i'm not dreaming this.

It must have been before the baby boomers started to have families and started to go back to church.
the trend you know...you have kids, hit the middle thirties or early forties and decide you need a religion and congregation to go to.

im am a 19 year old male who is thinking of leaving christianity for another religion.
i am looking at jw first and before i really start studying it i want to know how the religion works on homosexuality because i have a boyfriend and dont want to leave him.and would i be able to go date and have sex with someone not in the religion.. thank you .

I am sorry...but JWs do NOT have a dont ask dont tell policy...if they find out you are gay and cannot reform you, you are OUT of the closet and out the door. Big Tex hit the nail on the head. The potential gay study may be told as long as he keeps in under control he is okay...but the rest of the congregation is looking at you sides ways and talking about you. and unless you prove youre cured by getting married, then good luck getting privillages....you have to be a pretty good actor and no one has to know you were ever gay.
I have a friend of the family that has been disfellowshipped 5 times in the last 20 years...he is gay, but keeps trying to fight it, and fight it and FIGHT it...which lead to a drinking and drug problem. He had thought he was cured when he was disfellowshipped for the 4th time because he had thought he had fallen in love with a woman...a woman he had to give up when he was reinstated.
I feel badly for all the gays out there that had to live as a witness until they were able to get free...it must have been pretty damn tough. Definately listen to those people. If anyone ever tells you that gays are welcome they are not telling you the truth..they are welcome to study, but if they are changing their ways, then JWs are not encouraged to associate with you. and if you get baptised, and cannot fight your feelings, then you are out, and shunned. If you want to study, go ahead, but dont get baptised. They can still talk to you if you just study but decide it is not for you. but if you get baptise and get kicked out or leave...then you must be shunned.
Check out some other churches that openly accept gays. Universalist Uniterians are very open, and are very different from other churches. Many of the ministers are gay themselves. I dont really consider them christian, beacuse they dont have any real doctrine...but they accept others lifestyles and beliefs....aethists are welcome there, as well as others from different religious backgrounds.

this past weekend a relative came over with these ultimate fighting dvds that he bought but he wouldn't sit down and watch city by the sea because it is rated r.
they can be so dense and hypocritical!
when i pointed out to him that his ultimate fighting dvds are un-rated but in my opinion it is far worse to watch people fighting for pure entertainment purposes than it is to see a rated r movie that teaches a great life lesson.
I just watched Pirates last night....this is the best acting I have seen Depp do since Gilbert Grape...it really is a great movie

I used to get so guilt...there was this couple that I studied with the wife...they had tape all these movies that came on tv but made sure they marked "tv version" on each video tape and tape case lest, they stumble anyone/
I let me 12 year old watch r movies if there is not a lot of sex content, and the violence is not outside of the context...for example, we let him watch the patriot, gladiator and matrix movies...but there are others that I dont feel comfortable with him watching. Like basic instinc that was r..but athere aint NO way I would let my son watch that yet...just too uncomfortable for both of us hahah
I never knew that this was only an american thing until a family moved from canada to our congregation. I guess they were a little more laid back, because not only did they watch rated r movies but this goody too shoe pioneer had been screwing around in Canada and was soon screwing around with my brother.

for some on the fanatical side it might.
I do not know a lot about islam...but what i have learned is like any other religion, you have your extremes.
i am a disfellowshipped brother and have never had a problem with the organization's doctrines.
i am, however, deeply disturbed at the undeniable use of hidden or subliminal images in the illustrations of the wt publications.
there are so many that it cannot be interpreted as anything other than a deliberate pattern.
by the way, one of the greatest creators of our time, Matt Groening (Life is Hell, School is Hell...Simpsons, Futurama) makes sure that many of his characters have his initials drawn. If you look closely on Homer;s profile and that of Fry;s you will see M G.
