CoC was very nmuch a turning point in my exit from JW Land. I don't know much about your back ground but I was very much a 'lifer' and was seen as a pillar of our local congregation.
CoC opens your eyes to just how much internal turmoil is hidden from the rank and file.
Let us know how you get on with it.

Preston - you're a wag!
But what a co-incidence - I had this stange dream about going through airport security last night and setting off the metal detector alarms due to having metallic piercings. And, before you ask - I don't have a Prince Albert - the very thought bring tears to my eyes.

Certainly a nose ring would be looked down on in the west. The problem is the 'spirtual thought police' (elders) have no concept of culture beyond the dictates of the WTB&TS.
I remember an elders meeting where they wanted to counsel a sister for wearing a crop top in public (thus exposing her belly). They were deadly serious about it too. I pointed out that if they counselled this sister, then to be fair, they would have go to the Gujariti Assembly at the weekend (we have quite a few ethnic Indians in UK) and counsel the sisters there for wearing saris (which also expose the belly). I think it rather confused the those who wanted to 'counsel' this poor sister and the matter was reluctantly dropped.

Will the average age of Witnesses go up with time?
by JH in.
my parents go to a catholic church, and they say that the average age is in the 60's.. at the kh, the average age is about 30, if you calculate the age of the children too.. theoretically, the average age of witnesses should go up with time .
if less and less people become witnesses, the average age should go up, just like traditional religions....no?.

Yes there may be quite a few youngsters in the congregations but don't be decieved that the average age of the Witnesses is much younger than the avergae church.
When I was secretary a few years back - looked at the average of the baptized publishers and was surprised to see that it worked out to be in the early 50s. And this, despite the fact that there were lots of kids in the congregation,

Would you rather be a sports star or a rock star?
by Dustin ini was thinking the other day, if i could choose to be an awesomely gifted basketball player, or an awesomely gifted singer/guitar player; which would it be?
in the end i decided i'd rather be a rock star.
better parties, and definitely more of a bad boy image.

Yeh - rock star sounds easier to me. Also, the careers of rock stars can be longer - look at people like Tom Jones, Dolly Parton, Sting, Mick Jagger, Ossie Osborne - they are all clocking on a bit. The trick as a rock star is not to die too young of alcohol or drug abuse.

Did You Feel Being Disfellowshipped Or Reproved Was Justified???
by minimus inat the time you got "disciplined", did you feel you "deserved" it??
what about now????
?

I have never been in that situation myself.
However, I do not know of a single case where a df'ed or da'ed person thought it was justified.
The problem with the JW judicial system is that they can only focus on the law and never ask themselves 'why?'.
In my congregation, there was a sister married to the most dark, depressive (I must add not violent or abusive though) brother who served as a MS. In my opinion this is the sort of guy no one could live with. So this sister goes off with someone else. The body of elders then has no choice but disfellowship her. Was it justified? I got to the point where I could no longer go along with such lunacy.

I think you have the part about "uncleanness includes an intentional momentary touching
of sexual parts or caressing of breasts out of context here". This does not refer to married couples but comes under the heading of adultery, fornication and other forms of pornea.

yes - I miss my witness friends. Like many here, since I have left I have had virtually no contact with any of the former friends.
I was in for nearly 50 years, starting over again os not easy.

Still, if anyone hopes to be concealed in "the day of Jehovah's anger," he will need help to do more than be a regular reader of our publications.-Zeph. 2:3; Rev. 14:6.

Do You Ever Think of God ?
by minimus indoes "god" come to your mind anymore?
jehovah god, christ, a supreme being???
since you've stopped believing as a jehovah's witness, does "god" in any form come into your heart and mind?
-
eyeslice
Yes. Thinking about God is part of the process of trying to make sense of who, what, where we are.
