There is an answer to all of this - don't buy prepackaged products.
In my home land, there are virtually no supermarkets, despite a population of over 1 billion. In the main, people buy their food for the day in the local market, then cook and consume it the same day.
By the way, the average Indian uses a quarter of the power the average American wastes.

Jehovah's Witnesses: How Their Subculture is Fading Away.
by metatron ini am old enough to remember the days when conventions lasted many long days and large.
numbers of brothers were employed in preparing hot meals served on trays, army-style.
also recall how good these steam cooked meals tasted - and how policemen, assigned to.

Excellent topic!
I too remember the good old days - at least there was somethings to get enthusiastic about. There was always plenty of wrok to do for willing volunters. If you were a young brother, you good get on in the organization pretty quickly - I gave my first 1/2 public talk at 18, by the time I was 19 was 2nd school overseer and giving full public talks, was appointed an MS at 20 as soon as the new Elders/MS arrangement came out.
I agree with Sweet Tee; it has become a joyless religion. I got really fed up at elders' meetings when the topic of youngsters came up and it was in a negative light.
I feel really sorry for young ones today - they have nothing to contribute. It is bad enough for young men but young women have nothing to do in this stagnant organization.

130 years of preaching has failed.
by joelbear ineven in the us where the preaching work has been going on longest and most widespread, very few people have any idea what the message of the watchtower society or jehovah's witnesses is.
their methodology is flawed.
selling books and magazines that are rarely read sporadically to people doesn't deliver this message.

Yes, 130 years of preaching has failed.
Given that the most powerful government in the universe was supposed to have been set up in 1914, it has failed to get its message to the majority of people in the world.
Given the message hasn't really penetrated the USA, it is not surprising that it is unheard of in places such as the Middle East, India and the rest of Asia and China. I know from first hand experience that in India, Jehovah's Witnesses are totally unheard of. Yes, they have a small annual increase but the majority of this increase is in the South where the converts already 'Christians'; i.e. from Kerula and Goa form Portuguese colonies. In the north and east of the country, which are predominantly Hindu, there are places that have seen virtually no real increase since the 60's.
If 'this good news of the Kingdom' is to be preach in 'all the inhabited earth' before the comes, the end is a very long way off

Can JW's take vacations.....from the truth?
by JH in.
when jw's want a vacation, they have to go someplace to justify that they aren't at the hall.
so often we hear that brother of sister "x" went to hawaii for 3 weeks, and everybody is happy.. but, if a jw doesn't have the money to take a real vacation, but just wants to take, lets say 3 weeks off, and stay at home without going to any meeting, can it be done without questions asked, just like the couple going to hawaii?.

Whilst I was still an elder, I took a 5 week vacation and never went to the meetings once. Mind, I was travelling in a non-Christian country at the time.
The problem with JW theology is that they equate a relationship with God and Christ as being the same as being at the 5 meetings plus field service every week.
When I was away, I took the change of scenary as an opportunity to treat people in a Christian way - to treat rich and poor with the human dignity that Christ afforded everyone he came across (including Judas). This is far more than the average dub does when at home in the congregation.

Is College now wrong for Jehovah's Witnesses again?
by booker-t ini have been out of the jw's for many years now but i still have devout jw's family members.
and i am attending college now at 40 yrs old working on my ba degree.
i was so happy a few years ago when my jw mom told me that the wt is slacking off on telling jw's teenagers that college is bad and it is ok to attend college and universities.

You are right about this year's drama.
The basic plot (if you can call it that) is that Timothy chooses to accompany Paul on his missionary work, whilst his friend (a fictious non-Bible character as these drama love creating) goes off to Athens for high education and to make his way in the world.
It the same old message - the Society still has a big downer on further education - you should be out there pioneering.

You have to understand the elder system to understand why all elders will at sometime or other be viewed as hardliners.
As an elder there is no room for any deviation from the Societies law and rules. Before dealing with a 'Judicial Committee', the elders are instructed (note, instructed not recommended) to read through sections 3a, b and c of the Elder's book; the sections dealing with Judging in the congregation. Whilst these sections talk about being merciful and trying to 'save' the sinner, they without doubt lay down the letter of the Society's law. Elders are not old to read the gospels to see how Christ dealt with siners or to meditate on the parable of the prodigal son.
Like many here, there came a point when I could no longer go along with the hardline of the Society and eventually stepped down as an elder and later quit all together. When I have been asked by the elders why I don't go any more, I simpy say that I am too liberal a Christian for such a right-wing religion.

If you were STILL a JW where would you be now?

I'd be Little Toe's confident in the congregation - the steady elder who's never put a foot out of line and is aways someone the CO can rely on.

How Many Writers Needed To Write For The WT, Awake, & Other Publications?
by frankiespeakin ini see how the wt & awake, km, and other publications are really dumbing down, and never really relay any useful information above a second grade school level.
i wonder just how many writers are needed to write this crapola?
i mean think of how easy it is to research information on the world wide web, and then think of the shitty dumbed down articles that you find in the wt society's periodicals

I know of one or two who have been invited to write articles for the Awake. The general way it works is that you write your article, it goes of to Bethel it gets returned with suggestions, deletions, comments, etc. The article gets re-worked and it goes through the same loop may be 3 or 4 times more. At the end of the day, it is nothing like the original, Brooklyn may have written it themselves.

Little Britian is brilliant!
Like all good comedy it is close enough to the truth to be funny and embarrasing at the same time.
