I just gave blood and I feel great!
by hallelujah inin australia we have only voluntary blood donations.
it's quite amazing really that people regularly take at least half an hour out of their lives to give blood.
so i joined them.

Awake only published once a month but still pitifully poor!
by eyeslice inlooking through the latest copy of the awake that i got from my wife who has just got back from the meeting.
what strikes me is that although the awake is now only published monthly it is still the same old tired format.
'watching the world' still has the same pathetic cartoons, and the style and tone of the articles are just the same.

RubaDub,
Does make me think though. Do they have the crossword any more? I always found it an insult to my intelligence!

BluesBrother,
I have the same experience as you. Wife still active but to my knowledge she gets no positive encouragement.
As for me, I stopped going to the meetings had the usual round of elders visits in the first couple of months but since then nothing for about 2 years.
My guess is that they are embarassed to come and see me. What would they suggest; a Bible study for some one who grew up in the 'truth' and served as an 'appointed man' for 30 years?
Shepherding is a nonsense - for a religion that has no idea of what true Christian communion is about.

Feel like I could just get up and give these talks - they're just as I remember. Old habits die hard.

slimboyfat - I agree with you totally! I thought that the idea was to change the 'focus' of the Awake.
Personally, I don't see any difference, just the same old tired articles.
Also, given that the name is Awake, you would think you find things in the Awake first. The way things usually work out is that you've read other articles in National Geographic Magazine, Readers' Digest, Time Magazine, etc, way before Awake catches up.

Given the major change in moving from twice monthly to monthly, surely they could have gone for a total re-vamp. Sack all the existing editorial staff, bring in some new blood and ideas and take the opportunity to do something exciting with a magazine that has a guaranteed captive market.
What a waste!

Extra training ... so you know that shooting babies is WRONG ?!?
by Simon inhow dumb and pathetic.. no extra training should be necessary for even slightly trained and disciplined soldiers.
i guess it is for some of the rabble that the us call "troops" though.. of course the real problem is not just those on the ground that have committed the latest attrocity.
it is the chain of command that tried to cover it up and all the way up to the president who sanctions bombing of civilian targets with nothing more than rumour for "intelligence".. from now on america, you are on your own.

War is always wrong and horrible things always happen. Reminds of the Pete Seger song 'When will they ever learn'.

Hey man don't give up the fight - you are worth it.
I found a book called 'Stop Thinking Start Living' by Richard Carlson very useful. Why don't you get a copy - it must be worth a try.
lots of love and positive thoughts for you

Bethel Downsizing - Management Discussions
by core in.
the spin on downsizing is apparently "go out into the field" yet when the gb initially considered this it must have been presented as a practical problem - too much surplus hr capacity/ too expensive to maintain - or whatever and yet they turned it into a positive matter by stressing the return to the field - all those in such discussions are clearly able to deceive themselves as much as they try and deceive the "flock" - what do you think - did a discussion on a practical problem have to have a positive outcome and how did they twist their minds so as to sell it as such - for years they begged people to stay in bethel service (make it your home for life) and now they cast them out into the world with the thin veneer of "speedin g up the preaching work .. etc".
all those at the top must have been involved in turning this huge embarrasment (jehovah will provide etc) into a positive spin - they should try out for a marketing award "downsizing - the only way to grow!

They also went through a downsizing exercise in India. The problem there was nepotism - once in people did their level best to get all their friends and relatives into a fairly cushy environment.
What a shock when many were 'returned to the field' - witnessing in hot (110 degree F plus) dry rural areas! -
