At the dawn of the age of the PC, before the advent of the CD, when PCs had 10 mg hard drives and when few people had PCs at home, the Society brought out what at the time was an amazing piece of software: the NWT Bible for the PC.
I think it came on something like 12 3.5 inch floppy disks, which took an eternity to load, but as a piece of software was really cool at the time. It allowed for a full text search way before Yahoo and Google ever were thought of. You should note however, that this search feature was a commercial product and not some invention of the Society.

Mad cow disease
Look up prions on the web. I am not quite sure how certain the science is behind exactly what these agents are and how they propagate but they have certainly been the subject of much speculation. -

Don't forget about the e-coli from tomatoes, lettuce, and hot peppers. Also, the tainted apple juice a few years back that killed several kids. But, it does seem to often come from undercooked meat products.
Yes - but let's talk risk here. What are the chances of any one individual dying (a pretty serious consequence) from drink apple juice compared with getting a bad stomach (could be life threatening but most likely more of an inconvenience)from eating chicken?
I should also add that I don't really believe that there is a significant risk of some lethal pathogen entering the food chain. I am simply stating that if were to happen it would be through meat products not vegetables. -

My advice is don't eat meat at all!
I don't think that I have ever heard of anyone getting food poisoning from eating vegetarian food - almost invariably upset stomachs and food poisoning comes from eating meat or fish dishes.
Also, if there is going to be pathogen, for example something like CJD, introduced into the food chain, it is more than likely that it will be through meat. -

Recent Literature Letter Sent out -Bound Volumes
by stillajwexelder inbriefly it stated that all those who make extensive use of the cd-rom should seriously consider whether or not they need bound volumes.
these have to be next on the hit list of things cut imho

I recently re-cycled all the bounds volumes that we had, going back to the early 1950's, which I had inherited from my father-in-law. The problem with the bound volumes is that they take up so much space, even in the attic, and they are used on occasionally, even when I was an active witness preparing public talks, meeting parts, etc. The CD is much more convenient, though on the downside, they are only text based and have no pictures.

Do the Witnesses ever help anyone (link)?
by easyreader1970 inmormon church warehouse aids evacuees.

do the witnesses ever do anything of note to help the common man or do they strictly help themselves?.

When the witnesses do help out it is always self-congratulatory. They like to trumpet their activities, think that in some way that in itself brings glory to God.
They seem to forget that Jesus condemned that sort of attitude in the Pharisees, instead recommending that acts of generosity be done anonymously.
But then if they didn’t blow their own trumpet, what would they have to write about in the Awake I wonder? -

I'm not too sure about how genuine the original post is.
However, that even if there is a small level of dissent, the majority will continue to tow the line. And the way that the control works is to isolate and ostracise any dissenters, painting them as apostates and evil. Look what happened to Ray Franz.

Did You Get To "Handle The Microphones"???
by minimus inwere you one of those deemed "qualifed for this privilege":??

Interesting. When I was an elder I once suggested that all the elders should take turns in doing microphone duty and being on the front door to welcome those arriving. I found being at the front door easy enough to do on my own - you didn't really have to be assigned that but non of the elders thought the handling of mics was their job.
When I stepped down, note I was not removed, about 6 months later, they deemed me 'qualified' enough to handled the mics. It was over a year before they asked me to open/close in prayer despite the fact that I argued that I was always in good standing. I also argued that as neither a ministerial servant or elder that I should be able to chair the public talk - you have to go back a long way to see what the responsibilities of the chair are. All to no avail.
It was then that I began to realise just how hypocritical the whole set up is.

by Shepherd Book insome of you have probably heard this talk before, but i updated my site and made this page:

Not sure where the directive 'do not go beyond the things written' comes in to this talk. Reversal of continental drift, re-naming of days of the week, snakes, etc, where's all that from?
Even as a witness, I would not commit to the idea that God was going to destroy all non-Witnesses. I have seen too many people who I would term God fearing who are not witnesses that I cold never imagine God destroying.
The situation is even more strange now that I no longer attend. I have asked my wife if she thinks that I will be destroyed at Armagedon. She does not think so, but that sort of goes against witness current doctrine.
