We seems to me that world news has become totally dominated by the global financial crisis. The world will be looking to Obama when he takes office to see what he has planed to address the problems in the US housing, financial and automotive sectors.
It strikes me that as soon as we see the signs of impending financial hard times, our leaders jump to the rescue. But would it really be the 'end of the world' if the whole of the financial system as we know it were to totally breakdown? The reality is that mankind could survive without I-pods, mobile phones, TV, the Internet and all the paraphernalia of the modern world. It might be tough, but many of us could grow our sufficient food and find enough fuel to keep ourselves from dying form the cold.
However, we are close to ecological breakdown. We over-fish our seas, we cut down our forests, the quality of our soil continues to degrade in even the most fertile regions of the world. We are destroying our bio-diversity and still are putting far too much CO2 into the atmosphere. There will be some who try to argue against these facts - but surely this is a 'head in the sand' attitude.
Perhaps as witnesses, we didn't worry about this too much. After all, we knew that God would step in and bring in a new order of ecological perfection. I am by nature an optimist but I do worry about this issue. I have no faith in world rulers, and I fear there is a real possibility that we are screwing this planet to point of no return.

Forget the Financial crisis; it will be the Eco Crisis that will kill us

Did you ever pray at a meeting after realizing it was not the truth?
by Samuel Thorsen inan earlier tread shows that some of you did fs after realizing important things.

but did you pray at the meetings/bookstudy??.

Yes. But I think that we have to separate prayer (and a relationship with God) with a religion. In which case, I don't regard myself as a hypocrite.

Hi Oompa
Most powerful miltarily: if it came to an all out, non-nuclear war, between USA and China, my money would be on China!
Most powerful economically: no question China - the USA is already in hock to China!

most dubs are exactly like us faded ones!...l have proven it lately
by oompa inrecently, with my dad and two of my closest friends, i stumbled upon an interesting situation....they all know where i stand and what the issues were that became a wt dealbreaker for me...but all three of them have recently (and in the past) expressed opinions that go directly against fds teachings...not doubts....they just do not agree with something taught.
but two of them have actually put a mental block on a wt teaching they do not agree with, but what is funny is they both told me "i don't think we have ever been taught that so directly" (by the slave)....both times i was stunned!....these two teachings are huge wt dogma and taught very often....but because it conflicted with what they actually believe....they thought it must no be a real wt teaching.. 1. the first one was my dad...i told him i was mad at god and wt....he asked why...so i said well it could be this frikkin reading glasses i cant get used to, or my bad knee thats aching, and my back sometimes goes out!....and i was told all my life that for sure i did not need a college degree or great job cause i would never grow old or die and the end was just a few short years away!!
!.....so then he said the above quote...and i was like "what about the talk and books "million now living will never die"....so he says that is not as specific as to what my gripe was.....so i do my research and send him an email with two dozen quotes...my fave is the may 22,1969 awake that said youths "you better face this fact..you will never finish a carreer in this system...you dont need college....cause you will never grow old or die....the end is few short years away.

Hi Oompa
Some excellent observations. I think that the majority of Witnesses now have serious doubts but won't face up to them. Many are elderly and have nowhere else to turn to. Many have family in, and unlike those of us here have not chosen to cut ties with family or friends that we have had for years.

How I was appointed C.O.
by BonaFide inif you have never served out of this country or spent any time preaching in another country, you may have certain ideas of how a c.o.
behaves and talks and acts.
what is the youngest c.o.

Hi BonaFide
What an interesting story.
I served as an elder in a developing country and certainly understand where you are coming from. Many of our local congregations had one or no elders and things were very different. Some weeks, I conducted just about every meeting and often on a Sunday gave the public talk in two different congregations. Besides this I had my family to care for living in a strange country and I also had a very demanding secular job.
I am sure the brothers in the west do not begin to understand how difficult life can be in other parts of the world.
I came back to the west, and sat in one elders' meeting where they discussed what soap to buy for the wash-room. I remember thinking just these guys just don't get what Christianity should be all about.

Seriously....Do You Think Obama Will Get Whacked?
by minimus ini surely hope not.
but i figure, if bush didn't get it, no one will.
-

I hope not.
I think that the repercussions would be unthinkable. If it were an extremist Muslim fundamentalist group then the situation in the Middle East would become very serious indeed. If it were from a 'white supremacist' group, then the situation in homeland America would become uncontrollable. -

I guess with Hilary and Barak for the Democrats, there was going to be a historic 'first' for the presidency. I am only glad that Sarah is no where near the White House - what a scary woman!

Given the topic is "the new world" - what about health care? Sure the mess that the most prosperous nation in the world is in with health care not being universally available needs sorting??

But, may be he'll do more in his first year than Christ's kingdom has since 1914?

"The UN Wants Obama To Be President"
by minimus inmy mother told me that and asked, "don't you think this could fulfill bible prophecy?
"
-
eyeslice
Is it a fulfilment of Bible prophecy? Of course it is, here we have a practising Christian, who was brought in part as a Muslim and certainly knows about other faiths too. As far as I can see he is liberal and open minded.
Just the sort of person who is going to join with the UN in destroying world religion? Somehow I don't think so!
