Even when I was well in, never had the Kingdom Melodies tapes at home; nor any of the Bible readings on tapes, videos, etc. I never really did see the point!

If you could, would you have many wives?
by eyeslice ini read a book a few years back entitled white moguls, which looked at the british rule in india.
apparently, quite a few upper class englishmen ended up going native in india, and ended up not only with great wealth and power, but also with their own harems.
it seems to me that they had great lives!

But zero wives isn't a very good harem is it!

Shouldn't A Religion Having The "Truth" Be Pretty Simple To Follow?
by minimus inwhen you think about it, there's a lot of things about jehovah's witnesses that isn't easy to understand.. try to explain all the details about the blood doctrine to half a normal brain.. the majority of jws cannot explain who exactly the "faithful & discreet slave" is.
most will mix it up with the governing body.. the new world translation has "jehovah" in it over 7000 times.
ask a witness if the manuscripts that were found had the name "jehovah" in it.

Shouldn't A Religion Having The "Truth" Be Pretty Simple To Follow? Of course!
Religion should be the pursuit of simplicity.
The problem with a rules based religion like the witnesses is that once you make one rule then a thousand and one other rules are needed.
Take long hair in men. If you don't have a rule but leave it to individuals, then some will grow their hair longer than others. However, society as a whole hasn't disintegrated into anarchy and chaos just because some men wear their hair long. But the WTB&TS has to have a 'no long hair' rule. Then you need another to define exactly what long hair is; is half an inch over your ears or can it be a little longer?
Also, remember the short skirts rules? The fact is that most worldly women don't go round dressed like prostitutes on the pull, but the WTB&TS thinks that without rules, that all the sisters will turn up to the meetings dressed that way.
When I was an elder I used to be at the point of pulling my own hair out on occasions over petty rule making by the elders, no wonder I am bald now! -

So given the wealth, the culture and the opportunity, it seems that men quite easily can slip into polygamist ways. I must add that I am not so sure by the way that this is a good deal for the women however..
Could you cope? Would you want to? -

Forget the Financial crisis; it will be the Eco Crisis that will kill us
by eyeslice inwe seems to me that world news has become totally dominated by the global financial crisis.
the world will be looking to obama when he takes office to see what he has planed to address the problems in the us housing, financial and automotive sectors.
it strikes me that as soon as we see the signs of impending financial hard times, our leaders jump to the rescue.

But this is not about energy! Yes, burning fossil fuels is a bad. But supposing we had limitless, free, eco-friendly energy - it still do anything to solve the problems of food shortages and over-population, destruction of the rain forest and oceans.
Taking the optimistic view, our hope has to be that we will be able to solve the short term problems of dependency on fossil fuels and then generate enough wealth to be able to solve the other issues. There is no doubt that wealthier people have fewer children, and they have the concern, energy and wealth to be able to care about the environment.
After, all if you and your family are starving in the Congo, Africa, the last thing on your mind is going to be global warming. -

Mulan, Blues Brother - I think that the handing in of the written review papers to the school servant lasted beyond the late 50s as I can remember this as well
Later I failed to see the point, I could 100% right without having it printed in the KM so you 'revise' at home before. Seemed a stupid exam to me. -

Not directly but my wife is still in. There is a diffference between the people, 'Jehovah's Witnesses' and the religion know by the same name.

It is not just a question of limited resources. We will run out of oil one day.
Bio-fuels may do more harm than good as land previoulsy use to grow food is turned to growing bio-fuels. Clearance of tropical rain forests in order to grow palm oil is a major problem.
We could go nuclear but even uranium isn't limitless. We may be able to use nuclear fusion at some point in the future but although that may produce less CO2 we have a stack of other environmental problems to contend with.
Some have highlighted how quickly anarchy could arise and I agree. We think of society as being stable but there is no question this can break down extremely quickly.
This world as we know it will end one day. The question is when, and will mankind be able to shutdown in an orderly way?

Juicing: veggies & fruit.
by LouBelle ini decided to live a healthier life and get some proper vitamins into my system other than poping a pill i'd get a juicer and start incorporating juiced veggies & fruit into my lifestyle.. in the begining drinking veggie juice - even with juiced apples wasn't the most delicious thing but i have to admit that the more i do it the more i enjoy it.. i juice a whole range of veggies from carrots to beets to celery.
and it definately has made a difference.
once a month i just juice - no food.

I must admit that, though I am vegetarian, I am not a great 'juicer'. Most mornings mix up a bannana smoothie made with soya milk and a few other fruits. But the rest of the time, I tend to eat my fruit and veg rather than smash them up and drink them.
As other have said, you have to be a little careful about about juices as you tend to absorb the sugars quickly.
As with most things in life moderation is the key to success.
