Logansrun - you are spot on. The path of least resistance is leading young ones in the organisation to not get an education, to marry too young and generally have no ambitions. What a waste.

"The path of least resistance..."
by logansrun inif i could have a dollar for the number of times i've heard an "older, experienced" jw talk about young-ones taking the "path of least resistance" and "going to the world" i would be richer than george soros.
truth in fact, for some young witnesses, peer pressure does lead them to forsake the organization and follow (for them) what is the "path of least resistance.
" my experience is that these younger ones generally have only one parent who is a jw and usually "weak" at that.

"The Church That Forgot Christ"
by metatron infamous author jimmy breslin has written a new book called "the church that forgot christ".
he stopped attending mass.
after many decades because of his disgust with the catholic churches' handling of pedophile priests.

My thoughts entirely about the Witnesses.
They are totally confused about Christ. It seems patently clear reading the New Testament how the early Christians viewed Christ, he was the 'Lord' whose example and and commands they followed. The NWT translations ad-hoc substitution of Jehovah for Lord has the R&F in a total state of confusion. Ask the average witness who the 'Lord' is in 'always having plenty to do in the work of the Lord' and they will say Jehovah. How sad to claim to be Christian but totally miss the point.

A rock and a hard place
by Pistoff ini have been in this forum for 2 years now.
i have slowed down in posting but only due to being very busy.. when i got here, i was looking for evidence that the child sex abuse scandal was the result of a few bad elders; when i found that it was not, but was systemwide, my brain snapped.
i had emotionally left the hall in 1997, but just kept trying to reinvent myself and my faith.. i was determined to strip my faith down to the essentials, and build it back up so that when i went to the hall, pursued privileges and so on i was rock solid.

I understand your situation - mine is very similar. My wife is still in although I never attend the regular meetings in the KH.
However, I always respect her views and am not pushy with her. I attended the memorial this year and the convention and circuit assemblies. This is because I believe she deserves my support on these occasions. I make comments on what I/we beleived as Witnesses but I am never overly critical.
Hope things work out with you.

I haven't been to a meeting in 10 months now (after being in for all my 50 years). It was quite a shock to many when I suddenly stopped attending. My wife however still attends regularly and is an exemplary witness.
Interestingly, after this Sunday's meesting one sister came up to her and said "and just what can we do to get your husband back to the meetings? He is such a miss." I wonder what was really going through this sister's mind - has he turned apostate or is he just weak?
My just smiled.

"Evil slave" vs. "Apostate" Which is the WTS favorite word?
by booker-t inwhen i was growing up in the 70's and 80's before i moved out on my own all you would hear was so and so is of the "evil slave" class.
when i left the jw's in the late 80's and formally da'ed myself in the early 90's my mom told me i was with the "evil slave" class.
now the wts uses the word "apostate" i was wondering why did the jw's change their hate word?

As usual Blondie is spot on with her answer.
It has been a very long time since I have come across any explanation of who the eveil slave is in the Watchtower. But then again the WTB&TS explanation of who the faithful slave is is full of holes anyway. -

A million study the Bible in UK!
by eyeslice inbut not with jehovah's witnesses.
there is a big push on at the moment in uk for an 'introduction to christianity' called the alpha course.
the course has been advertised widely and claims to have attracted over a million people to look into the meaning of life and what christianity has to offer.

But not with Jehovah's Witnesses.
There is a big push on at the moment in UK for an 'introduction to Christianity' called the Alpha Course. The course has been advertised widely and claims to have attracted over a million people to look into the meaning of life and what Christianity has to offer. It is ran at many churches and appears to be non-dominational.
Compare that with the number of Bible studies being conducted by the Witnesses in UK - currently just under 50,000 then take out 'family' studies and my guess would be you end with no more than 10,000.
So the Witnesses' claim to be the only ones teaching the Bible today certainly doesn't stand up.

How does the WT explain "The Truth will Set You Free???"
by Confucious innow that i'm really free with truth.
i was wondering how the wt explains this scripture, since their members are in bondage.
i was told by the lady that studied with me that jw are free from superstitions, etc.

Interesting topic.
One of the last elders who visited me to encourage me to come back to the meetings cited that scripture. So I said ?let?s have a look at it in the Bible?.
I reasoned that the reality is that Jesus was speaking to people who had the ?truth? at the time. They were God?s people, practiced the law, they were not sexually immoral or particularly superstitious. ?Surely,? I said, ?Jesus was talking about religious freedom, freedom from all the petty rules and regulations that the Jewish system had heaped upon the ordinary people.? I don?t think the point that the Witnesses are enslaved to a similar overbearing religious system sunk in. -

Ozzie's Weekend Poll #88 (it's about the "Awake!")
by ozziepost inwell, how was your week?
the ngo issue seems to be playing well (or should we say unwell) for the borg right now, and we've been able to meet more new posters on jwd.
no longer lurkers, they're beginning to see the truth about "the troof".

6. Polls may tell them what they don't want to know.
I have always dected a fear of listening to the R&F by those high up in the organisation.
For example:
Most public talks are boring, the standard of speakers can be terrible.Watchtower studies are either trival and insulting to the intelligence or unintelligible, e.g. those on prophecies
The field ministry is a waste of time - people are flocking into the organisation.eyeslice

FORMER JW ELDERS, on JWD, 2004 LIST

Add me to the list for what it is worth 10 years.
However, I always believed Jesus words "whoever may desire to become great amoung you, should be Your Servant". I honestly believe the majority of former and present elders felt/feel that way.
The problem with the Watchtower structure is that the 'hardliners" rise to the top. These are the ones who then effectively become the Society's law enforcers. I have been in quite a few congregations, and have never come across a congregation where that wasn't true.

Strange picture in this week's Watchtower on porneia?
by eyeslice inlink to picture: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/file/7d83e711-da29-44aa-bde7-f74f9a3d79bd.ashx.
the following caption appeared opposite the paragraph porneia (quote: "porneia includes such acts as oral sex, anal sex, and masterbating another person") what can happen if we ignore warnings?.
now is it just me, but isn't the picture of the little boy trying to rescue his ball from out of a pond just a little weird?

Lots of interesting comments. I agree with the comments about pedophiles are out of line, I personally see no connection with the picture and such comments/thoughts. But let's get this thread back on course.
What I get from the picture is not that the little boy is going to get his Sunday best dirty but that he is in danger of drowning; losing his life! The whole thrust of Watchtower doctirne is if you don't do what we say, you will die at Armagedon.
However, the little kid is just that; a little kid. You have to realise that three year olds can drown in just a few inches of water. If he falls in and drowns that would a terrible accident, but no one in their right mind would say "it was his fault that he died because he didn't listen to the warnings of his parents". The picture is a very poor effort at trying to illustrate the point the Watchtower is making.
