I think the USA is great because .....
It has a history of welcoming migrants and people fleeing oppression from other lands. It has not only given these people a home but integrated them into society and the fabric of its culture. God bless America for this.

i mean seriously, since im not a jw perhaps id have a different opinion about it all.
but a colleague from work says she dont want to come here as she got addicted to it and couldnt get anything else done.
she apparently knows of similar other cases.
No - visit fairly often but then may be a few weeks go by and I have to catch up.

i have been a regular visitor to this forum for the past 2 years or so, finally i got the courage to register.. you guys are an inspiration , your stories and experiences have helped me to take a stand against this controlling org.. in short, i was raised from birth as a jw, parents are from the old school very much hard liners, the society is their god.
is expected of you, get baptised as a teenager become a ms then elder.
i always had my doubts about the society and its teachings but was.
Welcome Stress Free.
Most of us here have similar experiences.

so many things come to mind to show how silly jws sound in reality.
for example, being allowed to pass the microphones is a big deal, especially to a young brother.
or being given the "privilege" of cutting the grass or working on a "quick-build" is really something special to a jw.
Wolfgirl:
An excellent example!
Katiekitten:
Nice example. I started a thread a while back about JWs having no sense of culture or tradition. Confetti to me is simply artificial flower petals - what nicer/natural way to celebrate a marriage.

anyone seen this or have heard more on the truthfulness of it?.

randy.
The policy is a farce.
Garybuss's image is from a recent Watchtower. I can never get a straight answer to the question; if it is ok to accept fractions, is it ok to donate blood? In other words how can JW's conscientiously accept blood fractions without giving - it simply would be Christian. there is a garbled answer, "it may be ok if you were ceratin if the blood was only going to be used for fractions (but that doesn't square with the all blood must be poured on the ground doctrine).

this is a great story and its totally true.. peter kay says that when you are a kid you have loads of aunties and uncles, your uncle bob because he once borrowed your dads orbital sander and your aunty mary because your mum goes to weight watchers with her.
i thought it was a witnoid thing, or maybe a north of england thing, or even a 70's thing.. uncle malcolm was (is) an elder in my childhood congregation, a little wiry bloke in a flat cap and painters overalls.
lived in a council house opposite my nana's with the ample aunty jean, two large shiftless sons and lots of budgies.
Good story - know lots like it myself. Such is life inside and outside the world of JWs.

i was wondering for about a week or so, if anyone has done any research on the number of early christians?
last week i looked up the number of anointed still on earth and in 1935 there were 52 465. using that number you have to assume that about 91 500 slots are left open for early christians, who the wt says were all anointed, and any others who still need to be found in the past, and or future.
if we can add up all of the numbers some how it would either be more, or less then the magic 144 000. what that number honestly is, i imagine would be quite telling about the doctrine regarding this magic 144 000. .
I agree that to dismiss those who gave their lives as 'professed Christians" is an insult.
If I didn't want people to celebrate my birthday and thought I was part of a trinty - I might not be total comfortable with it. But if then they were prepared to die for their belief in me, I would feel that these were sincere and good people. I am certain that God feels the same way.

..just wondering.. i'd thought of maybe visiting somewhere like turkey later this year.
i believe it's absolutely stunning.
plus, the people are said to be very pleasant too.
I did some work in Tehran (capital of Iran) just a few years back. I had a great time there and never felt threatened or afraid. I found the people in general to be extremely friendly and helpful. I went for a walk one day and got talking to one man who insisted that I went back to his house for dinner.
It made me think, when was the last time I met a Muslim (or any other foreign visitor for that matter) and invited them back to my place.
I have also lived in a country with a large Muslim population for a while when I was a JW and met many Muslims in the filed ministry. They were aways very courtious and was always asked in and extended typical eastern hospitality.
I think it just goes to show that 99.99 percent of people anywhere in the world are honest decent folk. It is the 1 percent of lunatics that make difficult for the majority.

is the generation that saw 1914, now dead and gone?.
if they were born in 1900, they'd be 105 now and there are not many of these people left.. if they were born in 1914 they'd be 91 and there are not many of these left either.. can we say that the early light of russell and rutherford, and nathor knowrr is well and truly disproved?.
can we say it's just a matter of time before the new light is also disproved?.
I agree this doctrine is vaguer than ever.
Yes, there are still some people alive today that were alive in 1914 but these are now very old and certainly these peope had nothing to do with the events of 1914.
Surely if God was going to make a point, he would bring the end during the lifetime of those involved in 1914. In other words during the lifetime of the politicians and generals who were responsible for the events of World War 1. These past away a very long time ago.
