A slightly off topic point. Although the 1914 generation idea has been tossed in the garbage, the 1914 establishment of Christ's Kingdom hasn't and it is still a corner-stone doctrine. This does lead to the question; just what has this invisible kingdom been doing for the past 92 years?

But none of you guys seem to be doing anything to help other people. I am not complaining about my life now but it is different. I used to think that being a JW gave me the opportunity to be with the elderly and sick in the congregation and to be there as a support and example for others. Perhaps I need to do some voluntary work.

Would you feel safe traveling to the Middle East as a tourist?
by free2beme inone of my dreams is to one day making to cairo egypt and see the great pyramids.

Egypt seems to be one of the safer places. Egypt is very dependant on the foreign income from tourism and therefore presumably put a lot into security. On a side note, it seems that the Brits are a bit braver then their US counterparts when it comes to travelling.
I am not so sure that other places are so safe. Jordan, Damascus, Iraq and Iran could be fantastic tourist destinations but must be considered as not places for the average tourist.
That said, I worked in Iran a few years ago and loved the place. I found the 'man in the street' very hospitable and friendly. Its like anywhere, a few rotten eggs spoil it for the majority. Eyeslice -

What if .. Pope was Assassinated by Islamic Extremists .... WW3?
by eyeslice injust a thought.
but just listened to the news and apparently security for the pope has been stepped up.
if anything were to happen to the pope, things could get very messy.

Blondie - There was an assassination attempt on Pope John Paul II. On 13 May 1981 John Paul II was shot and critically wounded by Mehmet Ali Agca, a Turkish gunman, as he entered St. Peter's Square to address an audience. However, a few points to note: - the motive appears to have been nationalistic not muslim v christian - it didn't succeed - it was nearly 25 years ago Things have moved on a lot since 1981. My view is that if the Pope were assassimated by Muslim extremists there would be a blood bath in so many countries through out the world.

My wife runs a couple of hairdressing salons. The beauty of retail is that it is cash in hand most of the time - much better than businesses where you are always pushing customers for payment of invoices.

What Message is the GB Giving Mature Ones at Bethel With a Massive Lay Off?
by frankiespeakin ini wonder how this is effecting the morale of those mature ones still at bethel?
the governing body is in effect telling every one there you are all just pieces of shit to us(gb) and we can get rid of you any time we want because you are all just pieces of shit to us.

What a farce all of this is! Yet, go to any district or circuit assembly and Bethel Service is still held out as being a worth while career for young ones.

THE BIG A: RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER.
by Mary inwhere did all the witnesses over the decades get the idea that armageddon was right around the corner?
the society certainly never put anything like that down in print:

I remember an illustration given by DO. He said if you went for a bus it was better to be at the bus stop early rather than miss the bus. His point was that we might be slightly early and like waiting for a bus, time may seem to drag. But, better early than late.
That was about 40 years ago and that DO is now dead.

Did your Kingdom hall ever cancel meetings?
by moshe inwe were building a new kh- not quick build- and we had to vacate the old building and the new kh was not finished.
the elders decided to cancel all the meeting with the exception of the tuesday night bookstudy in homes.
we had no other meetings for about 4-5 weeks.

The general policy is never to cancel a meeting - they are far too important.
As far as quick builds are concerned, we used to do the 2/3 day builds and have the first meeting on the Sunday night. Then they found that more speed did mean good quality so things were slowed down. Even so, we always had to endure a Watchtower 'summary', often sat on the roof bored stiff.
