my wife was appalled by the misquote in the reasoning book under cross - where the society quotes the imperial bible dictionary.. more information regarding this misquote is located here:.
http://www.geocities.com/athens/parthenon/7831/cross.html.
she is not convinced though - because she does not have an actual scan of the actual page to look at.. (yes, i have already tried contacting the author of that website - to no avail.).
I don't believe it... my copy arrived today and it doesn't go up to page 376 !! It stops short at 368 !!
Luckily it was under £5 !!!
i bought a book entitled "miscellaneous writings 1883-1896" by mary baker eddy.. i was surprised to see the "cross and crown" logo on the cover.. .
it is almost identical to the logo that the watchtower used in the early days :.
i didn't realise that this was a common christian symbol in use at the time, i just thought i'd share it.. .
Mary Baker Eddy founded CHRISTIAN SCIENCE not Scientology. L. Ron Hubbard founded Scientology. FYI.
oops... edited. Thanks... that's what I get for rushing.

*** w64 11/15 pp. 693-694 pars. 11-12 How the Organization Should View Chasteness ***
Hence no Christian girl should make herself like a public towel on which any man can wipe his hands by means of immorality. What self-respecting man who believes in health and hygiene would want to wipe his hand on a dirty public towel by marrying a girl who makes a harlot of herself, a prostitute? Girls, do not make yourselves a dirty towel for public use, available to the dirty hands of any whoremonger, any symbolic "dog."
12 We should honor our sexual parts. Said Paul to the Corinthian Christians: "The parts of the body which we think to be less honorable, these we surround with more abundant honor, and so our unseemly parts have the more abundant comeliness, whereas our comely parts do not need anything. Nevertheless, God compounded the body, giving honor more abundant to the part which had a lack, so that there should be no division in the body, but that its members should have the same care for one another."—1 Cor. 12:23-25.
i'm looking to put together a collection of scanned watchtower / awake articles and extracts of other watchtower publications to show non-jws (and maybe even some current jws) that highlight the control issues of the society.. .
i am thinking along the lines of the famous 1996 article with the caption "do you wisely destroy apostate material ?
i will obviously upload the collection when it is complete.. .
Thank you all and thank you Atlantis and Nevada for the UN stuff.

Marriage
***
w8811/1pp.22-23pars.12-13WhenMaritalPeaceIsThreatened***12 Absoluteendangermentof spirituality also provides a basis for separation . The believer in a religiously divided home should do everything possible to take advantage of God’s spiritual provisions. But separation is allowable if an unbelieving mate’s opposition (perhaps including physical restraint) makes it genuinely impossible to pursue true worship and actually imperils the believer’s spirituality. Yet, what if a very unhealthy spiritual state exists where both mates are believers? The elders should render assistance, but especially should the baptized husband work diligently to remedy the situation. Of course, if a baptized marriage partner acts like an apostate and tries to prevent his mate from serving Jehovah, the elders should handle matters according to the Scriptures . If disfellowshipping takes place in a case involving absolute endangerment of spirituality, willful nonsupport, or extreme physical abuse, the faithful Christian who seeks a legal separation would not be going against Paul’s counsel about taking a believer to court.—1 Corinthians 6:1-8.
13 If circumstances are extreme, then, separation may be warranted.

***
w7411/15p.704QuestionsFromReaders***Thus "fornication" is set forth as the only ground for divorce. In the common Greek in which Jesus’ words are recorded, the term "fornication" is por·nei´a, which designates all forms of immoral sexual relations, perversions and lewd practices such as might be carried on in a house of prostitution, including oral and anal copulation
If, on the other hand, the lewd practices were engaged in by mutual consent
, neither mate would have a basis for claiming por·nei´a as a Scriptural ground for divorce. This is so because neither party is innocent and seeking freedom from a mate guilty of por·nei´a. Both marriage partners are guilty. Such a case, if brought to the attention of elders in the congregation, would be handled like any other serious wrongdoing.***
w833/15p.31HonorGodlyMarriage!***As already stated, it is not for elders to "police" the private marital matters of couples in the congregation.
However , if it becomes known that a member of the congregation is practicing or openly advocating perverted sex relations within the marriage bond, that one certainly would not be irreprehensible, and so would not be acceptable for special privileges, such as serving as an elder, a ministerial servant or a pioneer. Such practice and advocacy could even lead to expulsion from the congregation. Why?***
w705/15pp.315-316AvoidingtheSnareofHomosexuality***Helpful in this regard, then, is appreciating the fact that autoeroticism or masturbation is no mere innocent pastime but rather a practice that can lead to homosexual acts. How so? In that self-induced masturbation may make it easier and more tempting for one to engage in mutual masturbation, which is a form of homosexuality

w6710/1p.590par.19FindingFreedomwithJehovah’sVisibleOrganization***19 Evidences are now conclusive that Jesus Christ was enthroned in heaven in 1914 C.E. and that he accompanied Jehovah to his temple in 1918 C.E., when judgment began with the house of God. (1 Pet. 4:17) After cleansing those belonging to this house who were alive on earth, Jehovah poured out his spirit upon them and assigned them the responsibility of serving as his sole visible channel, through whom alone spiritual instruction was to come. Those who recognize Jehovah’s visible theocratic organization, therefore, must recognize and accept this appointment of the "faithful and discreet slave" and be submissive to it.

w879/1p.12"ATimetoSpeak"—When?***MARY works as a medical assistant at a hospital. One requirement she has to abide by in her work is confidentiality. She must keep documents and information pertaining to her work from going to unauthorized persons. Law codes in her state also regulate the disclosure of confidential information on patients.
One day Mary faced a dilemma. In processing medical records, she came upon information indicating that a patient, a fellow Christian, had submitted to an abortion. Did she have a Scriptural responsibility to expose this information to elders in the congregation, even though it might lead to her losing her job, to her being sued, or to her employer’s having legal problems? Or would Proverbs 11:13 justify keeping the matter concealed? This reads: "The one walking about as a slanderer is uncovering confidential talk, but the one faithful in spirit is covering over a matter."—Compare Proverbs 25:9, 10.
...Mary was somewhat apprehensive about the legal aspects but felt that in this situation Bible principles should carry more weight than the requirement that she protect the privacy of the medical records . Surely the sister would not want to become resentful and try to retaliate by making trouble for her, she reasoned. So when Mary analyzed all the facts available to her, she decided conscientiously that this was a time to "speak," not to "keep quiet."

w832/15p.28StrengthBeyondWhatIsNormal—HowTheyFoundIt***This was the experience of Dennis and Bernadette Cyrenne in a small mining town in northern Ontario, Canada. It started when their 12-year-old daughter, Sara, suddenly got sick with a rare blood disease . At the local hospital the doctor recommended blood transfusions . Because of their respect for God’s law regarding life and blood, and on account of medical information they have acquired over the years, they decided against the treatment .—Genesis 9:4; Acts 15:28, 29.
Hoping to find some alternative,
they rushed Sara 250 miles (400 km) to Thunder Bay, only to find the same response from the doctors there . Continuing their search, they took Sara out of the hospital. Eight hours later Sara’s struggle for life came to an end. For her parents this was only the beginning.g69-5-22 - Never Grow Old In This System

If your relative has received discipline from the congregation, remember that this is part of Jehovah’s arrangement and is in the best interests of all, including the wrongdoer. (Hebrews 12:11) Therefore, resist any inclination to find fault with the elders who were involved or the decisions they made. Remember, the best results come from doing things Jehovah’s way, whereas opposing Jehovah’s arrangements can only result in added distress.***
w884/15p.27par.5DisciplineThatCanYieldPeaceableFruit***shunning would be appropriate, too, for anyone who rejects the congregation:
14 The situation is different
if the disfellowshipped or disassociated one is a relative living outside the immediate family circle and home. It might be possible to have almost no contact at all with the relative . Even if there were some family matters requiring contact, this certainly would be kept to a minimum, in line with the divine principle: "Quit mixing in company with anyone called a brother that is a fornicator or a greedy person [or guilty of another gross sin], . . . not even eating with such a man."—1 Corinthians 5:11.***
w826/1p.20pars.15-16LoyallySubmittingtoTheocraticOrder***15 At times, some bring to the attention of the "slave" class various doctrinal or organizational matters that they feel ought to be revised. Certainly, suggestions for improvement are proper, as are inquiries for clarification. An example of this was when Paul, Barnabas and others were sent "to go up to the apostles and older men in Jerusalem" regarding circumcision. When those elders at Jerusalem decided the matter, under the direction of holy spirit, they then sent brothers to various cities to "deliver to those there for observance the decrees that had been decided upon by the apostles and older men who were in Jerusalem." Loyal submission to those decrees brought Jehovah’s blessing. Thus, "the congregations continued to be made firm in the faith and to increase in number from day to day."—Acts 15:1–16:5.
16 The proper spirit after offering suggestions is to be content to leave the matter to the prayerful consideration of the mature brothers directing the work in Jehovah’s organization. But if those making the suggestions are not content with that and continue to dispute the subject in the congregations with a view to getting others to support them, what then? That would create divisions, and could subvert the faith of some. So Paul counsels: "Keep your eye on those who cause divisions and occasions for stumbling contrary to the teaching that you have learned, and avoid them." Paul also counseled Titus to "reprove those who contradict," adding: "It is necessary to shut the mouths of these, as these very men keep on subverting entire households by teaching things they ought not . . . For this very cause keep on reproving them with severity."—Romans 16:17, 18; Titus 1:9-13.

w57-5-1 3 Articles - Mother Organisation, Loyalty to Brothers, Theocratic War
We must recognize not only Jehovah God as our Father but his organization as our Mother.
Showing respect for Jehovah's organization really resolves itself down to our attitude toward God's visible channel and the trust that we place in our proved faithful brothers. If we have become thoroughly convinced that this is Jehovah's organization that he is guiding and directing his people then we shall not be unsettled by anything that happens.
We will not 'forsake our mother's teaching' by immediately beginning to criticize and find fault....
....gratefully and willingly show our respect for Jehovah's organization for she is our mother and the beloved wife of our heavenly Father....
Theocratic War
- lying is okay.Likewise, when a Christian is placed on a witness stand he is obligated to speak the truth if he speaks at all. At times he may prefer to refuse to speak and suffer the consequences rather than betray his brothers or the interests of God's work. And, of course, there is no occasion for use of war strategy when dealing with our Christian brothers. In dealing with them we tell the truth or tactfully remind them that what they seek to know does not concern them.
