  ... residential and all in brooklyn heights, according to david semonian, a spokesperson for the watchtower society, also known as the jehovahs witnesses.

  I worked in a bethel home department and visited all those buildings regularly. I lived in two properties that already sold. Back in the mid 90's brooklyn bethel was bursting at the seams. Every sqare inch was occupied. Providing services to some of those small properties was a pain in the neck. The Standish Bldg has some of the strangest people in Brooklyn Hts living there. The buildings are well kept like the article mentioned.

  J-Dubs are only as dangerous as you allow. Can they take over your life? Yes. Can they cloud your reasoning? Yes. Are you held prisoner beyond pulling away like a runaway teenager? No.

  If I were not born into this crap, I would not have stayed as long as I did. You feel so special for a long time. Then they keep f***ing with you. Then you wake up from the effects of the KooL Aid. Then you have know choice but to pull for the sake of sanity.

  Regarding the very obese sister we booted out the borg. It wasn't for being obese. She was shacking up with some male friend of hers and refused to make him move. Thinking back we could have let it go. It wasn't like she was active and all. I think not showing up was partly to blame on her being very obese.

  Hey man I never was reproved or dissed... I did though sit on a number of cases in the past. I recall one very obese sister who refused to meet with us and we booted her out the borg. She told us where to go. She was right.

  These cases are set up to favor those who know how to appear repentant and sorrowful. Although that does't always work.

  When one examines confessions in the first century it was not handled by a committee of men. The Christians would openly confess their sins to one another. That was it. If a brother was a fornicator, he wouldn't receive a greeting. That was it. No committee.

  You are better off carrying your sins to Jesus Christ and leaving them there. Men have no business dealing in sin.

  advice on dealing with mom....please!!!!

  ok, so here is the trouble--everytme something bad happens, esp.

  a death, my mother will give whoever the unfortunate families who are greiving a book about being able to see your loved ones again.

  this is wxtremely difficult for me b/c first of all some of these people are close to meand expect me to know what the hell she is talking about!

  Your mom will never stop giving out books and tracts to families who have just lost loved ones. That is who she is. Have in mind, however what your own stand is. Have a permenant position regarding death and so on. Whatever your position is express it with some resolve. Tell your mother to keep her ideals to herself pertaining to you and your kids. There are no absolutes pertaining to any belief system. The sun will rise tomorrow regardless if you believe a certain way or not. Just form an opinion based upon your God given instincts and the knowledge you have gained to this point. You don't have to understand everything. Its o.k.

  Hell yea. More sisters than elders. The Dubs are so unhappy and mean. Just "waitin" for a reason to pop off. The elders are more evil and conniving. They want you to conform to the letter. Even towards fellow elders. Can't count the number of run-ins over the years.

  i think this is a good thread to post feelings about the various evolution/creation and atheism/theism disputes on this discussion board.. i don't really care whether most people believe in god or not.

  all i care about is that science keeps doing its job.

  most theists are going to contribute almost nothing to the next stage of scientific progress.

  God will always be a Great Mystery. The scriptures tell us we will never figure him out. Our parents never tell us everything about themselves. Things do evolve somewhat. I think God put forth creation with the ability to evolve to some parameters.

  God made sexuality and chocolate so he cares. Plus he will probably will reverse time at somepoint in the future to get earth back on track---1000 year reign.

There are no scriptural precedents for the calculating and turning in of time for the governing body. The service dept says it helps them monitor growth and figure where the needs are. What it really does is create a "yeah sir boss--anything you say boss" environment. The secretaries and book study overseers come around every month to see if your bales of cotton are heavy enough to satify "Masa (Master)." Why not make everyone tell how much money they contribute every month. Or report on their personal study habits. Turning in time is a control mechanism and a sham.

  Jesus never used the name Jehovah???

  my hubby and i have been doing a lot of bible reading are we correct by saying that jesus never once used the name jehovah?

  if the name is so important surely jesus would have used it?

  the jw's say that jesus was the greatest teacher and that we should follow his example so why are they using a name that jesus did not once refer to.

  Jehovah's Witnesses have always been exposed for being weird and isolationist. As of late they have been exposed for being crooked. As a child placing the magazines for 5-10-15-25 cents we would often get chided for helping profit the coffers of Watchtower. The public would often remark about our abject obedience while following the mandates coming down from a catered to ivory tower. The churches in many regions while respecting the door to door aspects of the JW ministry, warn thier parishners to avoid the J-Dubs at all costs. The biggest AH HA moment that regulated the witnesses to "just like them" status was the Dateline series on child abuse. For the masses still obediently serving the borg, fear and complacency will continue be thier master. This will blunt any internal exposure. Personally having served as an elder and at bethel, being crooked and exposed isn't the real kicker. We are all crooked and sometimes exposed. The real problem with WTBS is thier desire to control every, every every, every nano-second of our lives. Telling us during one of thier service meeting parts last year "You can even schedule recreation" come on. With every crooked and exposed organization the kick backs are spread around. Not so with Watchtower. This organization is run like a plantation. Why must the Governing Body look like the Supreme court down to the one African American and the latest two 50 yearold white male appointees. Where are the Japanese, Mexicans, South Americans, Africans come on. Only people of a certain pigment feel the anointing??? Exposure--Child Abuse Lawsuits--$3Billion, Blood Issue Lawsuits--$4Billion Complete control of over 6 million obedient slave laborers-Priceless
