  On the sound use of mental suicide.

  this topic is meant as a follow-up of my recent conversation with r. crusoe on different threads.. it seems to me that the current popularisation of eckhart tolle's philosophy, resurrecting what i think is the very core of age-old mystical traditions (to put it shortly: death of the culturally constructed "self"), without the collective mythological, institutional and social settings for such an experience, is potentially very liberating but also very dangerous.. i am sensitive to that because i went through a similar experience when i left jws -- i felt both its empowering and destructive force, and, although i certainly don't claim to have dealt with it optimally (is that an adverb?

  ), i'm hoping that experience, good or bad, may benefit others, to an extent.

  and i'm sure that i'm not alone in that case.. so i'd like this thread to be primarily supportive, even though that may include some theoretical and practical criticism.. .

  Narky - as I suspected = you offer zero! In fact you pose a nagative! Well compound-intellect has long done the same in WT cloisters! So no changes there! I mean that most sincerely - a disappointment if it were not confirming my suspisions!

  My thoughts are that those individuals successfully living fulfilling realities are content with whatever imagined reality 'god' poses them! So in this regard maybe Eckhart was correct more than many are presently able to comprehend?

  I wonder how many incognitto JWD posters we have?

  The WT is indeed a 'poison body' for partakers to suffer but one wonders about how long it takes or if indeed one ever is successful in finding alternatives to administer the antidote?

  I feel Eckhart has some far more superior links for the individual to divinity than the WT has neurons as a collective entity - but it is unclear at present how comprehensive a process he offers for those who feel connected to what he has discovered.

  I am as reluctant as anyone to take bait after WT wormology but my mind is still in the +ve! My doubts were on pins when he alluded more than once to Jesus philosophy - simply due to the Biblical cancer in the whole book - but I stand open minded.

  I get the aura of garden centre vibes in my community and online most everytime I indulge - but maybe it is the springtime - plants are on the increase!

  I am curious as to how academically accessible Eckharts intuitive focus on self is to humanity as a whole?

  His own experience was one of loss of identity from a position of high academia!

  But his claim that humanitys preoccupation with education is precipitating many more states of 'loss of ego identity' is seemingly happening before our eyes.

  And Narkissos, how can you be sure it is not an ego of yours reacting to what you perceive to be a common solution for humanity to all manner of psychological dysfunctioning egos?

  Oh my, just found out, my grandson, is autistic, daughter has cancer...

  ok, like there is not enough going on in my life now,,,with my shop windows being smashed out 4 times in the last month and i have to pay for them.

  son, who i found out at xmas, finally called after 18 months, is bipolar,,that his son, of 3 is very autistic, cant even talk,,and my daughter,,the career driven successful better than anyone (hhmm) fell on a cruise ship and found out she has cancer in hip,,,had it in knee as a 12 year old.

  ok now.......when do i get to have a meltdown.

  most of us are familiar with, or at least have heard of, friedrich nietzsche's virulent criticism of christianity: according to nietzsche the belief in, and desire for, "another (higher or future) world" and "eternal life" betrays a hatred of this world and real life, of power and beauty, of the animal and the "body," a "slave morality" which essentially consists in "resentment" against everything real, powerful, beautiful, etc.

  christian "spirituality" is shameful "nihilism," nihilism in disguise, the central emblem of which is the cross, understood as the very negation of life, with the "will of power" and the cruel beauty it is made of.

  nietzsche lumps together christianity and anarchism as expressions of the same basic rejection of reality.

  Narky:

  I only came across Tolle a week ago = which shows how amateur I am at any philosophyt stuff!

  I declare I am not well read on anyone well known!

  I simply rely on my own experience , observation and interpretations for much of how I think!

  It's why I was intrigued by how Tolle views things. Apparently he is highly regarded as one of the foremost spiritual intellects in Western circles - but I only viewed a couple of references suggesting this so cant be certain!

  What I do feel certain of is that he has a very 'calculus' way of explaining human psychology!

  It has me hooked at present - and I am a deeply several years depressive so I have to work hard to focus so accept some of my analysis will be under par. Still I am unafraid to persevere with a gut feeling tht something is hitting a nerve and I suspect he is onto something! Maybe you viewed this in other philosophies but he claims it to be a collective evolution of next generation world spirituality in the making. I am curious as to what underlies such deep feeling essences!

  Living as if you are 'formless' is very tough!

  I am attempting it and failing constantly!

  It is why I currently keep redressing my self analysis to see if I can relive his Eureka experience of attuning to the self and staying there permanently!

  I half suspected it was easy for him because he speaks of nothing else and gets paid for doing so!

  But whether he is 100% sincere and what he speaks of is attainable I am sincerely attempting to experience.

  So it is work in progress for me!

  So far I have had odd lucid moments but nothing to quel repetetive ego pain resurfacing.

  I am my own test for what it is worth since no one I know seems even close to aiding my fall into despair and matrix like essence I constantly feel .

  I can see incredible value in the moral foundation of this concept in overcoming the increasing reliance of litigation and obsession with past ego in living a present pain-egoic reality which infiltrates future expectations! This is what I see but my reservations lie in how it may derail humanity from capitalist ideology in making materialism less of an ambition = in this sense it is advanced enough to focus on preserving natural resources and making do with less! It has much in its core which seems to answer world faith conflicts also whilst at the same time helping combine them!

  In fact it seems too good to be true and like such a giant leap for mankind that I wonder if only a few will realise the dream and set foot on its moon? It is an amazing copound-concept but I am seeking essence-ic flaws so that I can dismiss it - which currently I feel unable to do!
