My badge would come off the second I stepped out the door of the civic center and as soon as I got to my hotel, I dressed like a slob. It was awesome.

Did you help clean the Kingdom Hall, yard work, maintenance?
by Thechickennest inat one hall i attended for serveral years had a lawn covering large man-made burms with trees and bushes.
it was a difficult yard to mow and maintain.
i have often wondered why we all pitched in and worked so hard for nothing.

When I was real young, I did. I loved it.
Once I got older, I got sick of it (heck, I don't even like to clean my own house! lol) and would sneak out the back door as soon the amen was said whenever it was my BS's turn.

Kid's playing sports?
by ldrnomo inanyone keep their kids from playing sports because of the borg?.
when my son was 8 years old they had a t-ball league in the summer at the nearby park.
because of the borg training we told him he couldn't play t-ball.. that kind of thinking just carried on throughout his life from junior high through high school.

My mother kept me from gymnastics because of the Borg when I was a kid. I loved gymnastics, but was never able to take any lessons/classes. However, I was allowed to participate in a few things in High School (like the National Honor Society), but no sports. My mother didn't even want me to do NHS and held me off for a year, but she eventually gave in.
When my daughter was 2, I put her in gymnastics. When she was 3, she was put in tap and ballet (she didn't like gymnastics as much as I did lol). I'm not going to hold her back in any extra-curricular activities. :)

The only thing I care about is that it's not ergonomic. I can't get the hang of those things! lol

How was marriage viewed in your congregation?
by Alexia ini ask because i see a lot of posts here about how the borg discourages marriage.
my experience is quite the opposite.
young people were pressured into getting married the minute someone from the cong.

My ex and I were married when I was 19 and he was 20. We had dated almost a year and a half before marriage, which was almost unheard of. One of my sisters dated for 6 months and my other sister for 9 months before marrying. That was more common. In my congregation, people were told to wait for marriage, or even hold it off indefinitely (not date indefinitely, of course...just never spend any time with the opposite sex lol). In my ex's congregation, people were encouraged to marry young. So it seems to depend a lot on location.

They only see her 3 or 4 times a year, it's not every month. I think the last time they saw her was in the Fall. They attempted to contact me again in March, but I ignored the email. I'm ready to do something though. Honestly, I didn't really think it was all bad that she attended a few meetings a year, but after all the research I've done in the past 6 months or so, I realize how wrong I was. I didn't find out that my ex didn't want them seeing our daughter until pretty recently.
I'm definitely going to respond that I don't want her attending the KH and if they want to see her, they'll have to come to us and can take her out for lunch or something. I thought I was doing the right thing before.

That's what my ex's wife told them. (My ex and his wife have a 3 year old daughter). She told them that she won't allow her daughter to set foot in a KH or be involved in that cult in any way. Yes, she actually said those words. I'm more of a wimp lol. Anyway, that's why they never see their other granddaughter...just because her mother won't let her go to the KH! My daughter does get exposed to it a little bit since my mother is still a JW, but not as much. My mother is definitely not as "zealous" as the ex-inlaws are.

Were YOU Personally Afraid of The "Demons"???
by minimus in.
did you think you might "get contacted" somehow by those powerful demons?
did you avoid anything the society said was associated with demonism?.

lol I was terrified! For awhile, I slept with the Bible next to my bed to ward them off. I also wasn't allowed to have any Smurf dolls (I'm surprised I was allowed a Cabbage Patch Doll since those had similar stories attached to them). I didn't care that my mother forbade them, since I actually believed all those stories! lol.

I have a little dilemma.
My ex-husband and I divorced 6 years ago, when our daughter was 14 months old. He disassociated himself almost immediately. I stayed in for awhile, but then sort of faded away. I finally sent in my letter of disassocation a few weeks ago. My ex's parents pretty much want nothing to do with him anymore, but they still want to see our daughter (she's 7 1/2 now). That responsibility has been left on my shoulders and I've been allowing it since my daughter has fun with them and loves them. They live a couple of hours away and we meet in the middle and she'll spend a weekend here and there with them. My ex doesn't want her to see them, but he says it's up to me. And, as I said, I've been allowing it.
I don't want to anymore. I work full-time, so pretty much only get to spend 2 weekends per month with her, since she's with her father the other 2 weekends of the month. Not to mention the ex-inlaws insist on taking her to the KH and studying with her when she's visiting them and it's really confusing to her. She actually preaches to me sometimes! :(
My ex-mil just emailed me wanting to see my daughter for a weekend this month. I don't want to allow this. If I tell them I'm disassociated, that *might* take care of the problem itself, but I would feel bad since my daughter enjoys being with them.
Help! :(
Sorry this got so long.

Children Who Leave Always Come Back to the Society
by ataloa ini heard this in a car group one day.
a young single mother said she always heard that growing up.
when she left she was adamant she would never be back, and now here she was.. is this true for the most part?.

I'm not so sure about that. I know MANY people who left when they were young (my brother being one of them) and almost none of them ever went back.
