The guys behind the stage almost always do that calculation. (accounts, assembly overseer, whatever- I forget the titles) It is sometimes presented at the circuit assembly elders "business" meeting. And occasionally an in-delicate elder or CO says something like that from the stage. The best part is the unanimous passage of a resolution to donate so much to the Society or pay the DO's and CO's expenses (like you can actually have a productive discussion with 100 elders- of course they just vote yes- so they can get back to their family.)

Has anyone here been a 'chairman' for an assembly? Question with regard to the script for introductions
by ThomasCovenant indoes anyone know if the chairman's introductions and announcements are completely scripted?
particularly with the use of adjectives and adverbs when introducing talks and speakers.. 'as we listen intentedly....'.
'we eagerly look forward to bro so and so's talk'.

The convention "Chairman" writes the script for District Conventions and the Circuit or District Overseer writes the script for the Circuit Assemblys- at least that's how it was. If you think its ackward in English- try a foreign laguange when the script has been written by a non-native speaker!! Really a mess- most of the native speakers are cracking up at the poor translation choices.

Ray Franz Passed Away Today
by Amazing ini just received word that ray franz passed away today at 1:37 pm eastern daylight time.
the cause of death is stated as head trauma, likely due to falling to the ground, and a stroke could have also been part of the cause or a result of the fall.
he died at emory university hospital in atlanta about 17 minutes after being taken off life support.

Anyone look at this board while still an IN and ACTIVE JW?
by Mad Sweeney ini vaguely remember looking at this board a few years ago, before i ever considered leaving the borg, and being appalled at the evil and hateful attitudes i saw here and scared to death of reading any further.. now i go back through years and years of posts and there is no evil or hate there at all.
it's one of the most kind and welcoming boards i've encountered since the invention of the internet.. that is how well borg indoctrination works.
it is eerily like 1984. black is white.

Reading what you evil apostates had to say (late at night and with trembling hands) helped me clear my mind. It took over a year- but when I left- I left for good. I have been free for over 3 years now and I owe a great deal of gratitude to Simon and the posters on this board.

I remember a long and drug out conversation on what constitutes "degrading" pornography. A few unmarried elders were pushing the idea that porn that includes oral sex is "degrading" and requires the elders immediate removal.

The great fashion issue at Bethel was always jeans and shorts. At the farm we would wear jeans or shorts when "off duty"- but Brooklyn had a strict policy that in their lobbies- dress clothes only!! Us farm boys didn't know any better- so we would walk into one of the Brooklyn lobbies wearing shorts. It totally steamed the lobby duty brothers!! Once we figured out that they had no real power and just had pulled a weekend "duty" to get out of work during the week, it became kind of fun to watch them get all steamed up over our clothes. (Whadda ya gonna do- arrest us?? You dont even know our names and we'll be upstate in the morning!!!) Then someone bumped the issue up to the administration departments and there were morning worship comments about proper attire in Brookllyn lobbies. Game over!
What a waste of energy!!!!
