What prompted the whopper of all Flip Flops? (Sodom & G. resurrection)

in pre-studying my watchtower for this sunday, (with mary's assistance on v's thread of course), i was reminded of something i've wondered about re: the whole "will the residents of sodom & gomorrah be resurrected?

" question.. to my knowledge, this one holds the watchtower record for most number of flip-flops.

please correct me if i'm wrong.

Probably depends on whether they were in favor of sodomy or not.

Issue Number 2.... Incorrect Predictions.

okay, just to re-introduce myself, i was raised in the truth, regular pioneered for years, and am a member in good standing with my congregation.

i have just recently been shocked to realise that i actually have some doubts about the truth.

it helps for me to focus on one point at a time, and to write down my thoughts in a logical sequence.

"We're not prophets".... right.

They say, and expect us to do. Any organization that expects its members to make life decisions based on the impending end of the world has a certain level of responsibility to double check their predictions.

It doesn't matter what they want to be called: mother, prophet, organization, channel, faithful and discreet slave, ark, etc. Those are just names. What matters is what they claim to know and what action they expect based on that knowledge.

The fact that they encourage (with a capital E) people to not get married, not have children, not go to college, not get a good job, not take promotions, not save, not relax during retirement, not play sports in school ....not, not, not.... because of certain knowledge about the future makes them responsible for affecting/ruining many millions of lives. OK- so we won't call them prophets.....whatever.....

I didn't think it was possible. Public Talks just got dumbed down to the level of an Awake! cover series. Just enough information to not say anything really. This was a talk somewhere already, I think (CO? Special Talk?) but it looks like the newest of the 30 minute outlines. Goal- prepare something you can hand to a gerbil and he will get it right.

Any proof that its "working" against Scientologists? Seems like most people consider them an odd sect that they wouldn't go near. Those that are "in" seem to act like they dont care what anyone thinks. Kinda like JWs

Home Schooling

it seems that there are a lot of witlesses that opt to home school their children.

i had a family in my former congregation that did that, because the kids did not want to be around worldly people (sounds familiar?).

it also seems that they are speeding things up, so the children can get out there and pioneer that much sooner.

I am a big proponant of public education. Always have been.

I have yet to see a home with a chemistry laboratory, gymnasium, running track, photography developing lab, pottery kiln, CADD station, or television studio. But they are common place in public schools. A well meaning parent can't possibly compete with the resources of thousands of taxpayers.... and why should they??? Because all of the people at school are BAAAAADDD?????

Furthermore, I think that the movement towards using public school money to fund religious private schools (VOUCHERS) is a step backwards for civilization. In the middle ages, you had to swear allegiance to a religious organization to receive a basic education. Education was only for the monks. In many countries in the middle east, the only way to receive a basic education is to enroll in a Mudrassa (sp?). So, in addition to learning to read and write, you get to memorize the Koran and whatever odd twist the resident Mullah is preaching that year. (Death to America, etc.) Orthodox Jews shun public education and open their own schools so that they can indoctrinate the young in the ways of orthodoxy.

Education has to be separated from religion. Just like government has to be separated from religion. Public mandatory education is a good thing for society and individuals. (Sorry if that was considered a hijack.)

growing up jw sucks big time.

out in the cold in service, out in the heat in service, 30 hours a week of meetings, service, prep, family study (at least) on top of homework, chores, limited access to friends, getting dragged in front of a jc every time a stupid rumor comes up, constant pressure to "narc" on your friends, no extracurricular activities, no higher education, having to hate everyone not a jw etc, having to kiss ass to anyone who has abused you/screwed you over if you don't have "proof"... any more reasons?

Easy, easy, sister. Things only get worse so that you recognize it when they get better. You'll get through this. Maybe with him, maybe without, but you'll make it. You've taken the first step in getting your life back. Nothing that is worth anything is easy... We all feel for you here. Some can understand where you're coming from better than others. Hang in there. Listen to your instincts. And create the life you want- 1 step at a time.....

More Bethelites being reassigned

just in, two more couples have been let go and reassigned to other states as special pioneers.. one couple transferred from brooklyn to walkill, been there over 20 years since 20!!!.

how are they spinning this your end if you heard anything?.
